TBR Toppler Dec 3 - Dec 4, 2011
I'm going to mix short stories, poetry, and my current novel in order to break monotony...and food! Whole Foods run...

Oh, I know about this "little" addiction. My mother had it and passed it on to her children. Not too long ago, when Mom, my sister, and I were all living together, my sister combined all of our libraries and we began getting rid of duplicates (which were many). We still have 1000s of books; some in our homes and the majority in a storage unit awaiting a chance to be sold on Amazon or eBay. We will never get around to selling them all individually.
Now, my sister and I use our Nooks and borrow from the library and limit our book buying - BUT it's not easy. We still have our fav authors we like to collect and have a complete collection of Stephen King's first and many limited editions. So you could say that we collect books AND read them! lol
Mikki wrote: "I'm going to mix short stories, poetry, and my current novel in order to break monotony...and food! Whole Foods run..."Sounds good, Mikki. I'm going to continue reading my current book, and also start Bartleby The Scrivener for a buddy read.
Just had a thought, where are we going to post our progress as we stay up bleary eyed reading, will we post here or on a specific topic dedicated to the toppler progress?Thought I better ask now while the brain is working and before large amounts of sugar and caffeine kick in (depending on what is being used to keep awake).
Judy wrote: "That has to be nice to virtually have your own lending library, Debra! "It's nice until you have to find room for them all... and hell when you have to move!
Picked the books, ran my errands, cleaned my house, bought the snacks...ready to go. Except I'm out of toilet tissue!
Judy wrote: "You're going to need lots of TBR Topplers to read all those before you go back to the Land Down Under, Kat. Have you started on #555?"No I've got two other books I'm currently reading, and the December challenge to start. But I estimate I could read between 800-1000 pages in 24 hours, so I should be able to squeeze in #555!
Ooh Mikki. I hadn't thought about a Whole Foods run. Now I won't be able to think until I get there. I hear the salmon calling me.
Judy wrote: "Nice mix, Mikki. Did you write the novel? heheWhat's for snacks?"
Definitely a big bowl of popcorn, Twizzlers, I might need Indian food too...

Anne? Bartleby the Scrivener doesn't begin until Wednesday, dear. So....no.
Sue wrote: "Ooh Mikki. I hadn't thought about a Whole Foods run. Now I won't be able to think until I get there. I hear the salmon calling me."salmon...salmon...salmon

Can I have mine on a bagel with cream cheese and a slice of tomato?
Anne wrote: "Can I have mine on a bagel with cream cheese and a slice of tomato? ..."Garlic bagel, cream cheese, tomato (no seeds), red onion sliced paper thin and capers!

Take off the capers and I'm there!
Mikki and Sue, you have several takers for the bagels and salmon. You'd better get enough for everyone, including the fixings.
Anne wrote: "Mikki and Sue, you have several takers for the bagels and salmon. You'd better get enough for everyone, including the fixings."Got it! Hold the capers on Kat's.
Anne wrote: "Great. It's arrived early. We start reading on the 7th."Excellent! Anyone else who wants to join in is welcome. We will be reading [Book: Bartleby The Scrivener] on the 7th. It is also available on feedbooks since it's public domain.

The only problem will be for those that aren't in the group -- I may have two more readers...

Yup! I think I'll have to bring the toilet paper! I'm getting off easy!

Actually, I was thinking salmon from the prepared food counter. I hate cooking fish. I can have a nutritious fish dinner Friday night. but I like the idea of getting a couple of bagels (fight the urge to get donuts---resist, resist).
hmmm I think I should be thinking about what to snack on too. I wish I still drank pop and ate chips which were my typical all nighter foods before I gave them up.
Kimberly wrote: "hmmm I think I should be thinking about what to snack on too. They taste great and are relatively sinless. And I have my Nonni's biscotti (with chocolate) and mini laughing cow cheese. You'd think I was planning on a trip. But one never knows what taste buds a book will excite. I believe I have hummus and carrot sticks. Have to get something healthy in.
Good energy food Kimberly! and it tastes so good too. Pasta sounds so good. This is the wrong time of day (night) for me to be thinking about food).
Me too! Technically I should be in bed by now..I have be up for class in 6 hours lol. I could really use spaghetti now!
I had to go get something to eat after reading the latest comments on this thread. While I was in the cupboard scrounging for nibblies, I found chili pepper jelly and jalapeno (sp?) jelly. I think I shall stop at the store tomorrow and pick up some crackers and cream cheese. Drool!
that sounds good Janice. If we're not careful, we'll eat as much as we read. Maybe we should change the topic to what will we listen to while we read.Lately, actually since I saw him in concert about 2 years ago, I listen most often to the music of Leonard Cohen on my iPod. I have over 50 songs on that playlist so it just plays on. I don't find it distracting it's just so wonderful.
My husband will likely have the tv on, so I'll get to listen to golf while I'm reading. I'll tune it out though.

Janice wrote: "My husband will likely have the tv on, so I'll get to listen to golf while I'm reading. I'll tune it out though."My hubby has the TV going constantly and he's a channel surfer! I can't tune that out, so when I'm reading I do it in the bedroom. When I'm sitting at the computer (which is next to the TV), I find myself getting sucked in to the boob tube and just when I start to get interested in a show, my hubby changes the channel! Arrrgh!
I think I might listen to some Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Lena Horne and Dean Martin that day I find them so soothing.
Debra wrote: "Yup! I think I'll have to bring the toilet paper! I'm getting off easy! ..."Ha! You don't get out of bringing breakfast that easily!!!
Borrowed some TP. We shouldn't have put off that warehouse club trip so many times.

Oh, no worries. I'll bring breakfast. How about some Red Bull and/or energy drinks?
We are almost out of TP ourselves. Definitely should try for a trip to Coscto next week.
Debra wrote: "Oh, no worries. I'll bring breakfast. How about some Red Bull and/or energy drinks?..."Actually I have nothing here to drink. Am planning on making some iced tea and lemonade. I forgot that we had discussed getting some Red Bull and energy drinks...didn't buy ANY.
Hey Judy, is this where we post the books that we are going to try to read? Or am I missing a thread somewhere? And what time are we supposed to be starting?I think that I'm lost. :)
I think we start whenever we can and for however long we can. I needed a hair appt and the only time my stylist had was on Saturday - go figure, huh? I thought she would've been booked. Damn. So, I won't be able to spend as much time as I wanted to.
Ok, I'm not sure that I'm doing this in the right place or not, but, here goes. I have chosen 6 books for this challenge. Better safe then sorry and run out. :) The only one that I've already started is The Handmaids Tale which I'm half-way through. The other 5 books are
I'm working on
. I'd like to read at least 100 pages this weekend, including Sunday. ...Setting my alarm early to get the crockpot filled for dinner before I settle in for reading! Yeah, 100 pages. I'm a reader, I don't scan. lol
Twenty minutes to go! I have been reading all night in my dreams. LOL! I've already had one cup of coffee.
Ive had a few cups of tea myself and Ive had a nice big chippy lunch (starts at 3pm UK time so it makes sense really), the books are stacked by the chair, the kettle is full and I'm ready to go!

Oh it's all about the reading! One day very soon I will have to say goodbye to all the physical ones as I will be moving back to Australia and there's no way I can justify the shipping cost! But there are a few favourites I'll be taking with me.
