Boy is my face red. I guess I didn't look at the name of this thread very closely so I missed the part about the readathon. I thought this was a sign up for January and next year. I will try to participate over that weekend--as far as I know I have no big (or small) plans. I have some books in mind right now.
I'm thinking of what I want to read. And will have to lay in snacks. I think a couple of Trader Joe milk chocolate truffle bars and maple cookies, those rice chips I've discovered, plenty of water. then there's always adequate exercise---wrist and hands, knees and ankles, and periodic standing to prevent crippling reading injuries.
I was planning getting pizza in, hot or cold it always works, but I hadn't thought about the injury potential. Might have to create a mini circuit around my flat so I can get up and have a little walk while reading just to keep the body loose and moving...
Ah Sam, you're from Torchwood central. Is that a show you watched?I'm an OT so I can give hand exercises to prevent stiffness.
Yes Judy--a monster has been created.
I'm afraid not Sue, I'm not a fan of John Barrowman so never watched it but I have seen them filming around Cardiff a far number of times.I think we may need those exercises Sue!
My sister and I are planning an all-nighter and have talked about how we are going to keep ourselves awake... energy drinks, Red Bull, waking each other up. I don't know if we can do it, but we are certainly going to try. I'm looking forward to having some fun with this!
One warning about using energy drinks though is the crash afterwards is nasty. I do a lot of all nighters with my work (bats are so inflexible when it comes to daylight) and I've found the best thing is just eating normal food rather than high sugar stuff, seems to keep me going for longer, hence the earlier post about pizza :-)
Unless I drink them continuously? ;-) just joking.I'm going to make sure I have a nice wholewheat pasta dinner and some fun snacks on the side.
I'm afraid at some point I will sleep -- usually about 3 or 4 in the morning I sleep for a while then I'll get going again. I'm not going to tackle this quite like a marathon by staying up continuously. I'll pay too big a price.
Yes I won't be able to either Sue. I'm not as hardcore as I used to be! And for me it ends 4pm Sunday and I have to still function on Sunday evening and work on Monday.

God that crash would be epic!!! lol
I plan to stay up throughout and still somehow manage to do the Cardiff Santa Jog too (luckily we're taking the dog so he'll drag me round quite easily)! Have set aside my sunday evening for recovery and dozing on the sofa!

I'll be following along to see how this goes. As a stat at home mom of an 8 and 6 year old, I don't think I can participate. Not that I don't always cram in reading whenever I can! Have fun, ladies! (and any gentlemen.)
Am I a bad Mom if I just bought my nearly 9 year old daughter 4 - Mary Kate and Ashley books at the thrift store today?Surprise, Surprise!I am not a fan, but if she wants to read 'em...
My Mom pointed out to me over Thanksgiving that I read Flowers in the Attic against her wishes.
Oh, and good news. I can finally read Before I Go to Sleep - it was on the 1 week rental table at the library! Hurray.
That's a great idea. I wonder if I could entice my grandson to spend the day with me. Instead of reading, he'll probably want to play World of Warcraft and talk my ear off while I read. Hmmm... on second thought, maybe not.

Dont complain if they're reading!
Aww Kimberley, don't worry, I intend to grab a few hours of sleep too - I can't do the all nighter thing anymore :)
I can't do it since the Friday I have to be up at 5 am for my 8 am classes and I won't be getting home until 5 or so and I'll be way tired plus my gerbil may be pregnant so I've got to keep an eye out for itty bitty babies.
Flexibility is the name of the game. I'm so glad to find groups that just want to read and have fun.
I just know my sister and I are going to fall asleep at some point, and we might get grumpy if we wake each other up. But, we are going to do our best AND have fun doing it. I'm really geeked! lol(I don't know why this is any different from me staying up half the night to finish a page-turner! But who cares!)

Thanks! I suppose you can count me in then :)
I just thought of this - Judy, you could set this up as an event.I'm getting excited about our readathon!
Let's try it. I would hope that nobody would drop out as a result. I would hope they'd just ignore it if they have qualms about it. If it causes too much of a commotion, we won't do it again. :)
Oh yeah! Let's do a poll. Hmmm - cheezies in the cupboard, newly designed cans of coke in the fridge, jellybeans in Mr Janice's jellybean jar... I better go shopping! LOL!
I think I'm going to be hanging by the end of this as I've got a Christmas party on Friday night so no early night and I'm planning on staying up for the whole thing then theres the small matter of the Cardiff Santa Jog at 10am sunday morning (luckily we're taking the dog so he can just drag me around). Think I'll be having a very early night on Sunday!
I've got a big stash of munchies I ordered online from Australia sitting in the cupboard - what a perfect opportunity to break them out!I'm now debating whether I tackle a brick read, or if I go for several shorter books. A brick would be good to get out of the way, but I'd love the sense of achievement from reading several shorter ones...argh, decisions, decisions!

I know what you mean! I can't decide what to read either.
This is such a fun thread, ladies! As an American, it's fun to read the names of all the snacks that I have never heard of...cheesies and Rice Works, etc. Makes me think of Wallace and Grommet, "Okay, time for snackies!"Well, I have almost polished off one book today and I just finished a book last night. The Abstinence Teacher; Before I Go to Sleep. I'll do my TBR toppler during the week while the kids are at school and you all can do it on the weekend. :)
Kat and Kimberly - pick the book you are most wanting to read to begin with to get you off and running.
Michelle wrote: "This is such a fun thread, ladies! As an American, it's fun to read the names of all the snacks that I have never heard of...cheesies and Rice Works, etc. Makes me think of Wallace and Grommet, "Oka..."I would Michelle, but my TBR is over 700 and I just can't decide!
Kat wrote: "I would Michelle, but my TBR is over 700 and I just can't decide!"Would you like you like us to help you decide? Each one of us will give you a number between 1 and 743 (the number that shows on your TBR shelf). You then match those numbers to your TBR and choose between them.
I pick book #555.

OK #555 sounds good
A Garden of Eden in Hell: The Life of Alice Herz-Sommer, at 400+ pages I'd call that a semi-brick!
700+ books on your TBR?? Seriously? Do you OWN all these books? An intervention may be in order. Or a book swap! :)
Michelle wrote: "700+ books on your TBR?? Seriously? Do you OWN all these books? An intervention may be in order. Or a book swap! :)"
Seriously. And yes I own them all. I may have a teeny tiny addiction. But it's under control, honestly!
Im getting better - I did just delete two books out of my amazon cart - only purchased 4 :-D

Ohhh I wish I only had that many books at home. I might actually have more space for other things.
I actually found a couple of thin poetry books that haven't made it onto my TBR yet. I think I'll read them since they are short. If I love them, I'll keep them. Otherwise to the library. I want to read for quantity this weekend....I need the space.Michelle...the Rice Works crisps are U.S. products. I bought them outside of Boston in a large Supermarket. I originally saw it in one of the warehouse stores.
