The Calling
question
Do you think this book is a True Paranormal Story?
This is a great question, Sarah. With all the feedback I'm receiving, this book definitely doesn't fit in with the vampire huntresses or warrior shape shifters. But it does have three main elements that, to me, mark it as paranormal romance.
1.) Paranormal elements – Justin is a demigod.
2.) That moment where a character must come to terms with being different or their lover being different. This is usually the moment where the woman realizes her lover is a vampire. LOL. (Mandy comes to terms with Justin's powers and the Calling.)
3.) If the paranormal were taken out of the story, there would be nothing to write about. The tragedy surrounding the Calling drives the story, especially in the last four chapters.
Those were the reasons that I labeled it as paranormal romance, but I'm not sure this book should be marketed to readers who are diehard paranormal romance lovers. I'm afraid they'll be disappointed. Some of the reviewers for this book have called it light paranormal romance, or a contemporary romance with a paranormal twist. I think the readers who will enjoy this book the most are the ones who read both paranormal romance and contemporary romance. I'd love to get others feedback on this.(:

I do think it's a paranormal, but sadly, vampires and shapeshifters and such have co-opted the genre. In the realm of true fantasy, those would be considered Dark Fantasy. This book would be considered Urban Fantasy.
Like I said to you before I don't feel mislead in anyway, Paranormal "lite" would be my best description for it as well. But in the description of the book it does not led you to believe you are going to get into his family and demigod heritage anymore than it does. Honestly I would not remove it from the paranormal genera I am pretty stuck in the Paranormal genera myself an I loved it. I think with all the reviews saying the same thing it will get the message across to the potential buyer. It is our job as readers to support the authors we love and get those reviews on as many sites as possible. I would hate for someone to pass it over and miss reading this endearing story.
I agree - this book has to be labeled as Paranormal Romance because of the paranormal factors that drive the storyline -however specifically the last part of the book. I didn't feel mislead at all by the classification because once you start the book you are su led into the characters lives and once in the storyline evolves and blooms and then the paranormal elements come in relatively strong.
Totally agree with the author, having just finished it. Due to weres/shifters/vamps dominating the pnr market, so many put a lesser branding on other, less prominent, supernatural/paranormal beings. This is PNR through and through--the only difference being that this had enough merit in the rest of the story surrounding the paranormal elements for that to not have to be 100% at the forefront in order for it to work. Personally, I loved that there was so much more going on than just a supernatural and their abilities. :o)
I actually liked it because there were no vampires, werewolves, faeries, etc. It can be tiring at times. But this was such a nice change.
