I guess I'll post the schedule...there'd better be a hell of Christmas bonus here.
This novel doesn't have typical chapter breaks or numbered sections, so here goes:

OCT. 3rd - OCT. 11th: The first half...exactly. In my edition (the one pictured), there are 297 pages. The first section ends at 147.

OCT. 12th - OCT. 18th: The section that begins on 148 is in italics and the first sentence of the section reads The sun had risen to its full height.

Anybody reading along with us, feel free to post any questions, comments, clarifications, etc.
There are some lovely turns of phrase and use of language here that I've really enjoyed. I wish I'd been posting some of them here as I read. The last one I noted was "To be loved by Susan would be to be impaled by a bird's sharp beak, to be nailed to a barnyard door." There's so much poetry in here!

I hope I'm ready to record tonight. I wrote some notes the only way that made sense to me, by character. I'm as unsure about the direction this discussion will take as I've ever been.

Are your notes handwritten or digital? :)

Wow, just 53 minutes of discussion, huh? I'm guessing you don't spend all of it on The Waves, am I right?

At this point I'm well behind you fellas in the reading and struggling to catch up. Yes, some of the passages are beautiful, but I'm finding I need more.

When I read one Goodreads reviewer call this "the best book I've read since Infinite Jest," I knew we might be in trouble.

Half-naked boys. On the deck of a ship. Squirting each other with hose-pipes.

Oh, Neville.

Discuss.

The audio fidelity in the first 20 minutes ain't gonna help. We're not going to hit 'record' unless we get a clear connection any more. Y'all deserve better. That's a BOOKHOUSE BOYS' promise!

In the Navy,
You can sail the seven seas
In the Navy,
Yes, you can put your mind at ease
In the Navy,
You can watch Percival glisten in the sun
In the Navy,
You can have some slippery fun.

Jeez, I was just going to say something juvenile but you always manage to outclass me, so I just keep my yap shut. ;)

Trying to decide whether The Waves is the most depressing book I've ever read, or the most comforting. Hmm...

The conclusion of discussion of this book: http://bookhouseboyspodcast.podomatic...
Matt reveals his plans for his hit documentary, Dave composes an impromptu love letter to Skype (cover the wee ones' ears), and Jason is still trying to figure out what that business with neck flicking is on this week's philosophical episode of The Bookhouse Boys, finishing up The Waves by Virginia Woolf.

Join us on Halloween weekend for our conversation with our good friend Jim Nelson, artist extraordinaire, on "At the Mountains of Madness" and things that creep in the night.

Jason, you forgot to add our gruel-based, geriatric diets and grousing about our sciatica. ;)

from Wikipedia: Quinine is a flavour component of tonic water and bitter lemon. According to tradition, the bitter taste of anti-malarial quinine tonic led British colonials in India to mix it with gin, thus creating the gin and tonic cocktail, which is still popular today in many parts of the world, especially the U.K., United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

I thought of this book & how the characters seemed like facets of one whole, complete character when I was watching Winnie-the-Pooh with my daughter. The characters in those stories seem to represent aspects of a person, as well. That is all.
