I personally like Mr.Darcy the best. He starts off standoffish with a superiority complex (not surprising I dare say considering how rich he is shown to be) but he is willing to take criticism and learns to laugh at himself.

I must confess that I shall always see Colin Firth as Mr Darcy, therefore no other should sway my affections.

I would like to put in a vote for Mr Bennet. he is funny, witty, knows exactly how to manipulate his wife, and is incredibly supportive to his daughters, particularly Lizzie - the smart one.
Wow where to start, she has such good leading men. Darcy, Wentworth and of course "My, Mr Knightly" ahhhh
Mr. Darcy, Mr. Knightly and Colonel Brandon, in that order, no doubt!
In all honesty, Mr. Drcy is the most heartfelt man from her books I have ever imagined. :D LOVE Mr. Darcy. :D
Mr. Darcy is the best .. Colonel Brandon is a great honest man ..
Mr.Darcy :} I agree that he is for sue stand-offish at first but then he gets very sweet :3 <3
Mr. Darcy of course, because he is honest and he is there for the ones he cares about, even if he can be clumsy at expressing his feelings.
And Mr. Bennet for his wonderful sense of humor jaja

Captain Wentworth and Colonel Brandon for for always being consistent. Have to love that in a man.
Willoughby for his flaws or fault, in the end he knew he would never love anyone like he loved Marianne. And as odd as it my sound Mr.Palmer, i kinda felt sorry for him. But he does love his family. Poor guy just has a really silly wife.

I must say that I like most of her leading men for various reasons. It's hard to decide on a particular favorite...
I think my top 2 would be: Knightly & Darcy. However, since I haven't read all of Austen's books, I might change my mind later. :)

Mr. Darcy and Col.Brandon... however, honorary mention: Mr. Bennet and Mr. Collins.
Capt Wentworth. But I am a Navy wife so I suppose I'm not totally objective. ;) Although I have to say I think all of them have admiral qualities in some measure.
Mr Darcy through and through:he was right, kind, big hearted although not much of a bragger of his good deeds which condones to his greatness of spirit, a bit dark and serious, Definitly the best male in all of Austen´s galery.
I'm a Captain Wentworth. I always loved his true heart. Just reading Persuasion and I can feel my heart swelling with love.
Mr. Knightly is always a gentleman, kind and intelligent. In second place Capt. Wentworth for that amazing letter.
Several years ago another Austen reader asked me whether I'd rather be Emma or Elizabeth Bennet, and I immediately said, "Emma, becasue I'd far rather live with Mr. Knightley than Mr. Darcy!" (Or have I posted this comment before?)
Mr Darcy, Captain Wentworth, Mr Knightley, Colonel Brandon and Henry Tilney.
Mansfield Park is my least favourite Austen book, IMHO it felt as though Edmund settled for Fanny after he'd given up on Mary Crawford.

Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy. Someday i will marry someone who is like Mr. Darcy as portrayed by Collin Firth in the BBC version of P&P
Captain Wentworth is pretty fantastic too.... And Mr. Knightly!!! LOVE HIM!
What has everyone got with Darcy he is selfish and aloof! Knightley!! always Knightley
Colonel Brandon from Sense and Sensibility ♥, and Mr.Darcy from Pride and Prejudice defiantly!!! I admire Mr.Wickham and Willoughby as well LOL!
I love Darcy too, but I also really like Wentworth from Persuasion- especially after reading the letter he wrote to Anne
I like Colonel Brandon, Mr. Kightly and Mr. Darcy the best - oh and Mr. Tilney!
Mr. Tilney. :D He's awesome! He's funny and sweet from beginning to end.
I like them all. Darcy, Brandon, Knightly, Wentworth, and Tilney
Wentworth. He was just awesome. He suffered, he lost and still loved Anne through all of it. I really love that book! ;)
Mr. Darcy!! Has been my favorite fictional character since I was a teen. Can't explain why but maybe I never got over the crush.
I always have compared most fictional men to Mr Darcy, so i think he is the prototype of perfect man (proud, rich, so in love with the main character, etc). But Mr Tilney is very cute and makes me smile everytime I read NA. Now i will start reading Persuasion... maybe I'll change my mind after I finished it...
I am a fan of Mr. Knightly. He indulges Emma and then scolds when she is wrong but he is patiently waiting for her to grow up enough to see him other than a family friend. I just love him. Everyone loves Darcy because he is proud and broody but when you think about it Mr. Knightly would make the better husband.
I love Mr. Darcy... he's more dark and compelling than any of the others.
I find it hard to pick a favorite because all of the Austen men have so many good qualities but they are also flawed in some way. For instance Wentworth ( probably my personal favorite)is still so in love with Anne that he doesn't even realise that his behavior to Louisa Musgrove might lead her to believe that her intends to marry her, but at the end he tells Anne that he never saw any change in her when we know that he told Anne's sister that she was so altered he wouldn't have known her again. But that said i still just think he's kind of sexy.
This is a great question! Well, for me it's definitely Captain Wentworth first...but I have to admit I also really like Edmund Betram from Mansfield Park. From a modern viewpoint it's a little creepy because he's Fanny's cousin but as a kind hearted, loving guy you can't really beat him!
I have a theory that which hero you like says alot about who you will fall in love with:
Mr. Darcy = someone you fight with but are strongly attracted to
Mr. Knightley and Henry Tilney = someone older and wiser
Captain Wentworth = someone other people don't "see" you with
Edmund Betram = someone who's your best friend
Edward Ferrars = someone shy and sweet
Anybody agree? Or disagree? :)

I agree with you in prefering Captain Wentworth to the others. I think he is the kindest and more constant of them all, also the one who took his limi

Ditto! He's this perfect Knight in Shining Armour girls could get obsessed with. His social awkwardness comes across as arrogance, but he's got a heart of pure gold!!

Mr Collins is a great character, in a kind of flesh-crawling kind of way.
