We watched Little Children last night.

Good, but icky. Icky good. Like caramel, or rich chocolate. With vodka.

Sex and bad sex and Kate Winslet and Jennifer Connely, both of whom often act in icky good movies.
What was that one about Marquis deSade? Or drug addicts?

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Quills was the one with the Marquis de Sade, Sally.

When you pin my name on like a dependent clause, Jax, I think that you're calling me Silly sometimes.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Sally! Sometimes you are silly, but it's on purpose. :)

Kate Winslet in that movie. Dude.

My son dialed this one in via OnDemand the other night and it wasn't bad (very true to the manga-like series it's based on) but then the sleep took me.

message 2559: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I thought Scott Pilgrim was only ok. I'm done with that Michael Cera guy unless he plays, like, a serial killer in his next movie.

Michele bookloverforever (lovebooks14) | 1970 comments "It's Complicated" had me in stitches. "Inception" had me puzzling all the way home but I got a real "bang" (pun intended) out of "Red". Favorite Movie of all time: "To Kill A Mockingbird" which I try to re-watch at least once a yr. the same way I re-read it once a yr.

Started watching "Stanley Kubrick's Boxes" the other day (wound up DVR-ing it so I can watch the remainder), a documentary on the Sundance Channel about the 1,000-plus boxes of memorabilia and archives left behind by the late director.

Pretty interesting so far.

hey, the characters were NOT old...just EXPERIENCED. but when I went there were several kids (under 18) obviously dragged in by their parents.

their experience, judgment and ability to still kick butt and their sense of humor.without humor, getting older sucks but it still beats the alternative.

Michele bookloverforever (lovebooks14) | 1970 comments I want to see "For Colored Girls" since I adored the play/book.

Across The Universe, very good.

Also, Wristcutters: A Love Story was very good.

Re-watched Joe Vs. The Volcano...it wasn't great.

Re-watched Red Dawn, .it was AWFUL! I LOVED that movie, like psychotically loved it (in the 80's). What a steaming pile of...

'exit shmexit, let's get played with!'

'i got a kink in my slink'

'you're not a toy, you're an accessory. you're a purse with legs'

the tortilla was brilliant.

Speaking of bad volcano movies, I always enjoyed Dante's Peak with Pierce Brosnan. In my mind, actually, Anne Heche replaces Linda Hamilton, although Anne Heche was in Volcano with Tommy Lee Jones.

Speaking of Tommy Lee Jones movies, I love watching Double Jeopardy over and over and over again.

Michele bookloverforever (lovebooks14) | 1970 comments another grade d movie I enjoy seeing: Them with James Whitmore...about mutated, giant ants...I always get a kick out of it. I wonder if I can get it at best buy for christmas.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Michele, Them! is an AWESOME movie! I love that it incorporates some real science, in a serious way along with giant ants invading the city.
It makes my inner nerd very happy. :)

message 2577: by ms.petra (new)

ms.petra (mspetra) I watched Winter's Bone. It was depressing.

Hell yeah! The opening scene of the young girl wandering the desert is still creepy to this day.

Steven Belanger One of the better Grade D movies: Attack of the Killer Shrews. Clearly dogs with cardboard antlers attached! An awesome Grade D non-genre movie from the 80s: Moving Violations. So many (inappropriate perhaps for a posting site) quotes that you just have to see it. And you have to love (or skip through) the juvenile/punk/teenage angst/exploitation part of Touch of Evil.

That's on my list of movies I would never ever watch again, actually.
The scene where the grandmother sacrifices herself to get the boat across the acid lake gave me nightmares.

message 2585: by [deleted user] (new)

OK, now Barb may - and probably will (she has a higher tolerance for talking animals than me) - have a different take here, but I took the kids to see this at the dollar show and still felt like I'd been taken.

message 2586: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments I saw a preview for that and it looked awful. I didn't even realize it had been released yet.

Imagine if My Little Pony was My Little Carnivore - as painful as that may be - and you're nearly there.

What a way for Dennis Hopper to bow out. Did he really need the work that bad?

My son saw this in school and wanted me to rent it and watch it with him. I'm not the biggest Jim Carrey fan, but it was alright. Ed Harris is always great.

I have a strange thing for Ed Harris. Particularly circa The Right Stuff. I can't explain.

No image, but that was an excellent movie. I don't like Jim Carrey at all, but he was good in that and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

message 2592: by Michele (new)

Michele bookloverforever (lovebooks14) | 1970 comments Ed Harris in "The Abyss"...good movie, have watched several times. I like just about anything Pierce Brosnan is in. I liked Dante's Peak. I like volcano movies including that disaster movie with Paul Newman in it.

Seen "The Lightning Thief"? Whenever we order something on OnDemand, I always vote for it, but the kids just don't seem interested. Maybe they know something I don't(?).

message 2595: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments My sisters watched it and said it was ok, but most of the fun was in watching the real actors have fun chewing scenery.

message 2596: by Michele (new)

Michele bookloverforever (lovebooks14) | 1970 comments No,I have not seen "The Lightning Thief" ,I'll see if my library has a dvd of it when I go on Black Friday. Tues. & Fri. are my library days where I pick up all the books I ordered after checking Goodreads.

Jaimie (jaimie476) | 664 comments I can only take Jim Carrey in small doses. He was good in The Truman Show and Eternal Sunshine. He's quite amazing in more serious roles. But I did like The Mask and Liar, Liar too.

I can't really take him as a comedian. I didn't like the Truman Show as a movie. But I agree he has really fine acting skills in serious roles. He should totally become a serious actor. He would win Oscars.
