I want to teach Mona how to put movie/book titles in italics.

message 1953: by Mona (new)

Mona Garg (k1721m) | 350 comments What, are you all tired of my yelling book/movie titles?

Sorry, I'm not all that great at technology stuff but I'm willing to learn.

Ok, how do I get an avatar? How do I put movie/book titles in italics? Do tell.

I don't know how to explain with only one hand...Bun!

Click "some html is ok" and use the formatting, putting your words in the place of the ellipses.

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Anyone see this animated movie about The Book of Kells?

message 1956: by janine (new)

janine | 7709 comments i saw that just a few weeks ago. the best part about it is the style of the drawings.

message 1957: by Mona (new)

Mona Garg (k1721m) | 350 comments Sally, thanks for the tutorial. I don't know how I missed this. I will now either put my book/movie titles in italics.

BunWat & Heidi, I'm working on selecting an avatar.

Mona Garg (k1721m) | 350 comments Ok, BunWat & Jim, I've chosen an avatar and here's the link
Now, how do I post download it here? Sorry guys, I'm just not good at this techie stuff. If you don't want your popcorn to get cold, help me out.

message 1963: by Mona (new)

Mona Garg (k1721m) | 350 comments Ok, BunWat, I'm going to try it. Maybe you and Fred Flintstone should watch something else while you're waiting.

message 1964: by Mona (new)

Mona Garg (k1721m) | 350 comments It worked! Thanks, BunWat :) GREAT INSTRUCTIONS for a novice like mmyself. You would make an AWESOME teacher.

Now I can choose avatars for my other forums:
Bookarmy
Filmcrave

Sally gave me a tutorial on how not to yell my book/movie titles and use the "add book/author" and "some html is ok" functions.

Thanks again.
Was it worth the wait?

I resemble that remark! :-).

message 1966: by Mona (new)

Mona Garg (k1721m) | 350 comments Jim, weren't you "yabba dabba do?" Did you change to "To Infinity and Beyond?"

Anyway, the Flintstones and the Jetsons are my all-time favorite cartoons so if you resemble Fred, that's a good thing in my book ;)

I was Mona, This one is from Toy Story, I've been changing it almost daily.

Mona Garg (k1721m) | 350 comments Hmmm, maybe I'll change my avatar now and then too. When I was looking, I had a hard time choosing.

Thanks again for all the help everyone :)

I liked it a lot! Definitely weird, but that's the Coen Brothers for ya.

message 1971: by Félix (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I have watched Alice in Wonderland twice now and have decided that I have to try too hard to like it to say that I like it.

The actress playing Alice is dour and Burton's changes, while well-intentioned, blow.

You're right, RA. It didn't really work, did it. What a shame. As much as I like Depp, that dance at the end made me cringe.

That dance was awful! And I get why he turned it into a hero(ine) quest, but I'm not sure I approve. There was a manic energy that I found grating.

I watched it on Monday night. I'm curious what non-Jews think about it, since I thought the funniest parts would probably not be as funny without that connection.
I'm still not sure what to think of it as a whole.

message 1980: by ms.petra (new)

ms.petra (mspetra) my kiddo just brought home 2012 and we are going to watch it right now... what did you think of it TC people?

message 1981: by Sally, la reina (new)

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod
Anything with John Cusak is fine by me.

message 1982: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Watched Blind Side last night. I liked it a lot.

message 1983: by ms.petra (new)

ms.petra (mspetra) 2012 not one I would recommend. I am sure the special effects would have been better in a theater, but it was just a dumb movie and way too long.

message 1984: by Heidi (last edited Jun 21, 2010 01:43PM) (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments I watched Brothers last night. HOOOOMG! I've not cried that hard while watching a movie in YEARS! I'd probably vow to never watch it again IF I didn't love the entire cast in the film - Tobey Maguire, Natalie Portman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Sam Shepard, Carey Mulligan; the little girls were really adorable, too - excellent cast, excellent script, excellent challenges, phenomenal performances.

message 1985: by Mona (new)

Mona Garg (k1721m) | 350 comments Heidi: I saw the preview of Brothers and am waiting my turn at the library. Thanks for the tearjerker warning. I'll keep a box of kneenex nearby so I don't have to use the throw.

It's riveting, Mona!!!

message 1987: by ms.petra (new)

ms.petra (mspetra) Heidi your review is spot on! It was so well done. I thought Toby McGuire was so intense in that movie and a little creepy. Can you imagine being in anyone of their shoes?

OH! You watched it. :) I think we should try to convince everyone else they need to watch it. I kind of wish I didn't drop it off at the library already. I think I'd like to watch it again - for the record, peeps, it felt like a good cry, not the bad kind...

message 1989: by ms.petra (new)

ms.petra (mspetra) Yes, I actually paid to see it in the theater. An yes I agree Heidi everyone needs to watch this one. It is a movie themed around the war, so that turns people off. But really it is about the war's effect on relationships and the collateral damage. A movie that will make you think.

message 1990: by ms.petra (new)

ms.petra (mspetra) Mona, I put American Crime on hold. :)

message 1991: by Mary (new)

Mary (madamefifi) Legion--rawther lame.
The Book of Eli--pretty good. Denzel not as annoying as usual and Oldman delightfully wicked.

message 1992: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I started Youth in Revolt yesterday and it's really not that good. Definitely Michael Cera overload.

On the other hand, I watched the first hour of The Spirit and I thought that was surprisingly good.

message 1993: by ms.petra (new)

ms.petra (mspetra) I saw Toy Story 3 - 3D last night and it lived up to the billing! My daughter and I both cried like babies at the end since that scene will be played out at our house in a few short weeks. I'm not convinced it needed to be seen in 3D, so if you have fidgeters or don't really like the glasses the standard version would be fine (and cheaper). It had a good story and some very funny lines, especially between Barbie and Ken.

message 1994: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments i watched the Book Of Eli last night. of course denzel was great it in. he is a guy who can kill people and you still think he is a good guy (ie: see also Man On Fire). some good acting in this movie. still processing what i thought about the story line. very interesting...

Ms. Petra: Did you put American Crime or An American Crime on hold? The one I mentioned was the one with Catherine Keener. Fair warning: it's not easy to watch.

Actually, even American Crime looks interesting. I think I'll check it out.

Sometimes mistakes like that can be dangerous. In 8th grade I tried to rent "The Nasty Girl" - a Holocaust movie - for an assignment. They gave me "Nasty Girls" instead.

Also, in 9th grade we were given an assignment to write an essay on a movie about a historical character. I went to the store and picked out Caligula. I got home and my dad made me go back and pick A Man For All Seasons instead.

Whoops.

message 1997: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments I think I realized it wasn't the movie it was supposed to be before I even popped the tape in the VCR. But the title of the one I was supposed to be watching wasn't much better - maybe it reads differently in German? It's about a German girl who tries to investigate her town's actions during WWII.

And the video store in question was the scuzzy little place on 89th and Broadway that I could walk to - the guy who ran it was basically Randall from Clerks.

message 1998: by Mona (last edited Jun 23, 2010 09:30AM) (new)

Mona Garg (k1721m) | 350 comments Barb: Ok, you're right. My warning wasn't nearly strong enough. Sarah, this movie will haunt you and you won't be able to forget it.

Sarah: Caligula?! That guy was... Had your dad already seen it and knew it was clearly inappropriate? What kind of picture did "Nasty Girls" have on the cover?

message 1999: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments They didn't give you the movie covers. YOu brought the empty box to the counter, and they fished the right movie off their shelves in the back and gave you one of those generic hard black cases that said "BE KIND - REWIND". I brought him the box from the right movie, but he grabbed the wrong one from the shelf, perhaps.

At the time, I didn't know who Caligula was, just a vague notion that he was Roman and historical. I imagine my father had probably seen Caligula, but even if he hadn't, I think that movie caused a bit of a stir in its day, no? Bob Guccione seal of approval and all?

message 2000: by Mona (new)

Mona Garg (k1721m) | 350 comments Sarah, aah yes the days of VHS. I remember those black cases.
