Movies (duplicate thread)

I'd add Unforgiven to that list of really high quality movies he has directed.
I thought Invictus was visually striking but suffered from the fact that there was SO much to tell. I had a hard time judging that one since I was so familiar with the story already.

Another movie based on a true case that I think I've mentioned here before is AN AMERICAN CRIME(2007).

"The Blind Side" on DVD.
Eh... Alright, but don't know what the big whoop was about.

Mona, after watching Changeling I found this book at the library - Nothing is Strange With You by James Jeffrey Paul. So creepy because it is true....

Gotta go. Will check in later.

I think you're right. They decided to film around the game instead of try to explain it. They were hampered by the fact that the final game had no tries - only penalties and drop goals. World Cup finals are always played very cautiously, which doesn't make for good drama.
Still, they could have built it up in other ways. It's a shame, because I think they lost a little bit of excitement and humanity because of it.
I also thought they lost something in turning the team into three people: Francois Pienaar, Chester Williams, and everyone else. They skipped the part where the biggest brutes on the team learned to sing the new anthem and surprised everyone with it. They didn't bother giving Joel Stransky a personality, so his final all-or-nothing drop kick seemed like an afterthought.
Oh well.

agree with you. it was just an ok movie and i was amazed too y it had been given much hype."
What was a great story in real life just didn't translate all that well to the big screen.
But I still say Sandra Bullock is truly dazzling.

Well, Mandela is taller than he looks - over six feet tall. Or at least he was before age started taking inches.
But Damon is really short, and Pienaar is tall, so the images of the two of them together are kind of backward.

On a more serious note the DH and I finally watched The Hurt Locker last week.

A very good movie, i would say
So i have 3 options over this weekend
Unthinkable
Prince of Persia
Ironman2
Which way should i go"
I've seen Iron Man 2 and can recommend it as a lighthearted escape from reality. I enjoyed it.

Note to director: Consider pulling back for a wider shot on some fight sequences. The constant close-ups can be cool, but they get bothersome when they go on so long.

You just wrote my own HP story. Thanks for saving me the time. :)

I love vampire movies but somehow the books don't interest me. Right now, I'm working my way thru Season 2 of True Blood and really enjoying it. It's due back at the library on Thursday(I made full use of the very generous grace period).
After that, I need to watch UP IN THE AIR and INVICTUS in that order.

Me too Barb. they just don't do it for me.

Up In The Air is really good. :)

I've watched 10 out of 12 episodes of True Blood Season 2. I always have to make sure my daughter is not close by. It's not exactly kid-friendly. Luckily, she keeps her distance when I'm watching and asks me to turn down the volume if I'm watching my "vampire show."

I also enjoy DEXTER and am eagerly waiting for Season 4. I love watching seasons on DVD because it would be so hard for me to wait a week for the next episode.
BTW, Alan Ball, the guy who created TRUE BLOOD also did 6 FEET UNDER which I also like. I have not gotten very far in that one because the entire season is not available in one cover w/multiple DVD's which is very annoying.
I think this Alan guy has a preoccupation with death.
I also have season 1 of MAD MEN, another series that I've heard good things about.

I assume you're a fan of 6 FEET UNDER? How about DEXTER?

I'm going to be signing off for the night. Talk to you all later.

Have you Heard About the Morgans?
How to Train Your Dragon
Alice in Wonderland
When In Rome
Have you Heard About the Morgans was the worst of the lot - Hugh Grant played Hugh Grant and SJP played a marginally toned down SJP. But they eked some fun out of the plot line and there were a few good lines.
When in Rome was cute - mostly because Josh Duhamel is too adorable for words.
How to Train Your Dragon was so much fun. I'd like to see that again with kids.
Alice in Wonderland truly needs a larger screen for appreciation, but I still enjoyed it.

I would not have watched ALICE IN WONDERLAND on a tiny airplane screen. The last movie I watched on a plane was a biographical one about the running back Ernie Ford. I can't remember the title but I liked it more than I thought I would.
I'm not a sports fan but watch sports-related movies/TV for the human interest angle(i.e. THE BLIND SIDE, COACH CARTER, "O").

The Hangover was a total guilty pleasure. Pleasure because you laugh your ass off, guilty because you know you shouldn't laugh but you just have to!
I am planning on seeing the A-Team mostly because of Bradley Cooper and Liam Neeson.

Hugh Grant and SJP doing themselves sounds horrific. Plus, they're basically mocking the place I live so I hate it.

However, the movie was only partially about Joan. It focused on the lead singer in the band, Cherie Curry, and was based on her autobiography, Neon Angel. Dakota Fanning played Cherie, and she was great, too. The talent show where she lip-syncs to a Bowie song and gets heckled is awesome.
I wish the movie had followed Joan more, really, and the Runaways. The Runaways continued as a band for two years after Cherie left, but the movie doesn't cover that at all. In fact, it would more properly have been called "The Cherie Curry Story."
I was amused to learn that the real Cherie, after dropping out of the band and going through rehab, is now a chain saw artist in northern California.

I had this same conversation recently...if they added Robin Williams and made me watch that movie on an airplane, I'd be in hell.

they had to set it up for ironman3

mmm... Bradley Cooper and Liam Neeson!

Oh, is that why the bassist didn't say anything for the whole movie?

Yeah - they picked a good actress but gave her nothing to do because she was just a place holder/composite.

Also I've got "The Philadelphia Story" from Netflix, hope to watch that soon.
