Mary (madamefifi) I'm getting the vibe that The Hangover didn't agree with you, Larry.

message 1652: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) It agreed with a part of my personality, Mary -- but not the part I'm always proud of.

message 1653: by Mary (new)

Mary (madamefifi) No, I'm with you, Barbara. It wasn't that funny.

message 1654: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) No it wasn't. It assaulted my senses. And my sensibilities.

message 1655: by Mary (new)

Mary (madamefifi) On the plus side it had a lot less female frontal nudity and fart jokes than I expected.

message 1656: by Mary (new)

Mary (madamefifi) I really want to see that, Barb--I actually have a lot of respect for Matt Damon as an actor, especially when he breaks out from his stock Jason Bourne mode.

message 1657: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Mary wrote: "On the plus side it had a lot less female frontal nudity and fart jokes than I expected."

Yep. Me, too. I don't care for fart jokes, either. ;)

Cambridge (hsquare) | 509 comments Mary and Barb you two are spot on! I saw the Informant and agreed Matt Damon was very good and I am totally not into the Bourne trilogy, but that does seem to be a male favorite.

Larry wrote: "It agreed with a part of my personality, Mary -- but not the part I'm always proud of."

That statement pretty much hits the nail on the head.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I thought Matt Damon was perfect in that movie, but that movie was just odd. I liked The Informant, but it was really quirky, a mix of comedy and thriller and seventies sitcom.

message 1661: by Jaime (new)

Jaime | 158 comments I went to see Remember Me the other night. I really liked it. Knew going into it that it isn't your typical love story but I was still a little surprised at the end.

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Ok, two comments on films I've watched this weekend...

I thought Zombieland was pretty good but not great. The Bill Murray part was excellent but that lead actor...Jesse something...well...he's like a poor man's Michael Cera, and I'm sick of him. Woody Harrelson was good, though, and Emma Stone, too, but...good...not great.

I'm almost finished with Let The Right One In. I guess the movie is decent, but after reading the book I know they eliminated entire subplots and minimized one major one, so it's hard to feel as if something isn't missing.

Maybe I'm too critical this weekend.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I liked Zombieland, but no, it wasn't great. Love Bill Murray!

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments But, I thought you liked Michael Cera, RA?

Youndyc | 1255 comments I just finished watching Revolutionary Road. It was fantastic. Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio were truly amazing in this one.

I was expecting more because of all the great reviews. I also felt something was missing. As for positives: I thought it was visually right on. I liked the "effects" on Eli because they weren't over the top. It was enough to be creepy but not overly slick. The apartments were just as I'd pictured them in my head.

I'm glad you enjoyed it Youndy -- but it was almost torture for me to view that one to the end. The characters seemed wooden and fake to me.

But that's just me, I guess.

That's a good point. There wasn't gore for gore's sake. The librarian and I were talking, too, at how depressing and colorless Stockholm in winter looked...I think that a big part of the feel of the book, too, I agree.

Although insomnia appears to be my cross to bear, there’s the occasional silver lining, namely some of the genuinely bizarre middle-of-the-night programming pulled in via satellite. And by “bizarre,” I usually mean “good.” Unfortunately, “Body of Evidence” doesn’t qualify.

Madonna stars as sexpot Rebecca Carlson, accused of killing her lover through the surefire method of kinky sex. Willem Dafoe – who really should know better – is along for the rough ride as her defense attorney Frank Dulaney. Rebecca ties Frank down, pours hot wax on his, er, tallywacker, throws him down on the hood of a car that’s covered in broken glass, and grinds him with her Madge-vadge.

Truly dire stuff, but at least I got back to sleep.

message 1670: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Madge-vadge. Cool.

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments Holy moley. Jeff Bridges blew me away in Crazy Heart last night. I'd say "Recuhnahz." but it's already been done - a well earned Oscar performance from one of my favorites.

message 1672: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I forgot to mention I liked the last half-hour of Let The Right One In a lot.

I also saw Up in the Air this week...I'm not a big George Clooney fan, but he did a great job, and Anna Kendricks was perfect for her role. Plus, some good shots of Omaha, Jones...

message 1673: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Yeah I have Up In the Air sitting on the table waiting to be viewed. I've been told there are extra scenes on the DVD of the city that were cut.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I'm watching frivolous stuff these days. I started watching the Sex and the City movie the other night, and it's all designer wedding gown montages and naked sex scenes.
Although, so far our stars are stayed covered. Maybe now that they have the clout of being stars, they are refusing to show as much skin?

message 1675: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments Seriously. AM I THE ONLY PERSON IN TERMINAL COFFEE WHO'S SEEN CRAZY HEART?!!

WTF. Go see it. Now. I insist.

Jeff Bridges.

Go.

Now.

message 1676: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments p.s. I want the soundtrack.

message 1677: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I want to. I really do.

message 1678: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Up In The Air moved me.

message 1679: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Excellent.

message 1680: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments I wanna talk about Crazy Heart, not Up in the Air (which I really want to see)! Crazy Heart! Crazy Heart, Crazy Heart, Crazy Heart! CRAZY HEART!!!! Someone go watch it so we can talk about how wonderful it is and make everyone jealous! Stat!

message 1681: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Yeah but is it any good?

message 1682: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments Hmmph.

>:F

message 1683: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) You're so easy.

message 1684: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments You're not helping my cause, Misha. ;) I'm trying to get more people to go see it.

Actually, I thought Jeff Bridges carried that movie with his performance.

message 1685: by Joy (new)

Joy I saw The Blind Side last night. Sandra Bullock is very good - better than the movie as a whole. If I had an Oscar vote, I would have given Best Actress to Meryl Streep.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I saw Crazy Heart too, and I agree, it's a character portrait, and a very good one, but not much else.
It went where I expected it to go, which was fine, and I liked that it was hopeful, because I really loved Bad (Jeff Bridges), and I wanted good things for him.
And I liked Maggie in this, although they could have established better why she would get into a relationship with a man like Bad.

message 1687: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments This morning I watched High School Musical 3. My kids were watching it. That's my excuse. And yes, I've seen all three.

message 1688: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I have Gran Torino to watch -- but am not in the mood, I guess. For me the time has to be right for an Eastwood flick.

message 1689: by Joy (new)

Joy Larry wrote: "I have Gran Torino to watch -- but am not in the mood, I guess. For me the time has to be right for an Eastwood flick."

Gran Torino was good. I watched Bad Lieutenant Port of Call New Orleans last night. Nicolas Cage really chews the scenery!

message 1690: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Yes, I liked Fantastic Mr. Fox...my kids thought some parts were great, too.

message 1691: by Mary (last edited Apr 11, 2010 04:28PM) (new)

Mary (madamefifi) We ended up watching Whiteout last night, which was pretty lame. Two signs a movie isn't going to be good: gratuitous semi-nakedness of female lead, with bending over, ass to camera, followed by full but blurry nudity in shower, within the first 5 minutes, and overwhelming desire to lie down on couch and take a nap within first 15 minutes. I slept through a good half-hour and still had no problem catching up when I awoke.

message 1692: by Jackie "the Librarian" (last edited Apr 11, 2010 05:39PM) (new)

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I saw The Darjeeling Limited, another Wes Anderson movie, and it had its good qualities - quirky characters, fantastic locations and that wonderful train.

But the plot was murky. Okay, they're on a spiritual pilgrimage, oh, wait they're really going to see their mom, wait, they're all upset over their dad's death, or something... I liked it, but I would have liked it more with just a little more background info. But that's my preference, I know. I'm a plot person.

I loved Fantastic Mr. Fox, another Wes Anderson movie. Great characters (loved the kids, especially) and settings, AND a great plot! Woo!

message 1693: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I especially liked 1) the colors, 2) the music, and 3) the train in The Darjeeling Limited.

message 1694: by Cambridge (new)

Cambridge (hsquare) | 509 comments Larry have you seen Gran Torino yet? It's a must see, I can't count how many times I have seen it and I am not an Eastwood groupie! It's just . . . WOW!

message 1695: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Not yet. It's still in the red envelope waiting for me to open it.

that's not gratuitious, that's compensating for the snowy parka action scenes.

message 1697: by Cambridge (new)

Cambridge (hsquare) | 509 comments Larry, you are killing me! You have got to give it a shot so we can then discuss, now I am anxious to hear your opinion . . . although I am sure it will be obtuse ;)

message 1698: by Mary (new)

Mary (madamefifi) Cambridge, I'm with you---I loved Gran Torino. Clint Eastwood...wow. May he live forever.

Larry wrote: "I especially liked 1) the colors, 2) the music, and 3) the train in The Darjeeling Limited."

I really liked what I saw of this movie, but never saw the ending, not sure why. But I agree with Larry on what I saw.

Gran Torino is a good movie. I have it saved on the DVR to watch whenever I want.

Larry wrote: "I have Gran Torino to watch -- but am not in the mood, I guess. For me the time has to be right for an Eastwood flick."

Apparently there's some sort of ongoing disagreement between Spike Lee and Clint Eastwood because Clint apparently doesn't cast enough minorities in his films for Spike's liking. I originally pooh-poohed this as typical Lee grousing and/or publicity seeking until you consider the fact that "Gran Torino" takes place in the heart of Detroit and the gang members Clint cast are all - wait for it - Asian.

Huh? Not the minorities Spike had in mind.
