Movies (duplicate thread)
We're watching Body of Lies right now. Good, but I'm not really digging the "southern" / "American" accents on Dicaprio and Crowe.
Friday I took my grandma to see Up in the Air - well, well worth it. I'd watch it again and again.

I tried to watch District 9 , and it is the first movie that I have quit watching in a long time. I don't think I even want to give it another chance.
Jim, please reconsider. You won't be disappointed.
It was like a weird documentary following this guy around the alien slums, it was hard to follow the flow, and the interaction, and the plot line just didn't work.
Watched 500 Days of Summer last night. I loved it. It was funny and heartbreaking and bittersweet. When Summer ran into Tom near the end of the film, after she'd crushed his heart by getting married, and told him she found in her newlywed what she didn't find in Tom, my wife and I both yelled, "you bitch!"
I think every guy has dated a girl like Summer. I know I did. She's dead now. No woman gets to break my heart and get away with it...

I lover 500 Days of Summer too. Bitch was what came out of my mouth too.

If you really need any further proof that Aerosmith's or Alice Cooper's reasoning abilities were seriously clouded by opiates and Budweiser respectively, cue up the "Sargeant Pepper" DVD.
As for Frampton? He should've stuck with Humble Pie.

That Sergeant Pepper film is truly an abomination. It's a crime against cinema. Everyone, and I mean everyone, looks incredibly embarrassed to have taken part in that atrocity. Peter Frampton, who's normally a devil-may-care type of guy, looks as if he's taken part in a murder, and he's probably still losing sleep over taking part in this movie. Poor guy. I've always liked Frampton. Sorry this movie fucked your career beyond repair.
If I'm not mistaken, I think my sister has the soundtrack to that clusterfuck, on vinyl. I need to bust her chops about that.

I'll never see another one even if it means the premature donation of my eyes and ears to science.

Regarding chick flicks, I'll admit to watching Fried Green Tomatoes, if only for the hotness that is Mary-Louise Parker. And Mary Stuart Masterson, even if she was tomboyish (re: lesbian), was pretty hot, too.

Those really are the driving forces for watching that movie. I don't have Showtime anymore, so I can't watch Weeds.

:)
I liked Mary-Louise Parker in West Wing too.

Yeah, I could buy the DVD's, but it's not that important to me I guess. I could add Showtime back on too, but I need to trend away from the TV, not to it. Spring is coming, and it will be time to get outside with a vengeance.

Oh geez, I have a 2 week free trial with Netflix, maybe I will try that.
And they have the first two or three seasons on instant watch on Netflix. I like to rewatch the first season especially just for the music.

Thank you Youndy for seeing it my way! yes! Overrated fo' sho. And she's so "luminous" because of all those satin blouses she wears while on the road/in the air.
Anna Kendrick was the true supporting actress star in this one, I'd say.

Next in the queue, Enchanted April.
And, I'm obsessed with this release!!! I friggin' looooved the cartoon on Nickelodeon. My nephew turned me onto it.

Watched The Hurt Locker a couple of nights ago. Hands down, it's the best film of 2009. The tension that builds in every scene is paralyzing and riveting.

I've been watching the 5th season of Weeds - I love Andy! The youngest son has really grown since last time; such cute sons!
I watched Two Lovers last night. Supposedly Joaquin's last movie - I sure hope not. I've never liked him more.
Ok, so I didn't really get Inglorious Basterds, but Sweeter really did. He loved it! But then again, he pulled a chair up to our 9" TV to read the subtitles and I just guessed at what was being said.
Sally, how on Earth do you watch anything on a 9" TV? That's just wrong in so many ways!
By the way, I'm putting together a movie-based blog series - my 100 Favorite Films of All-Time. I do have the list of 100 films, but I'm still sorting the list, and then I'll need to write a short blurb about each film. I'll keep you posted.

We watched Year One the other night. That was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. It seemed to be going for a Monty Python or even Mel Brooks level of historical farce, which you would think Ivan Reitman could achieve...but no. It was truly terrible. Not funny. Even Zu agreed.
Somewhat better was The Rocker which had a couple of cute moments, and also allowed my sister and I to play "spot the Toronto landmark pretending to be Cleveland", which is always a fun game.

Should I take my grandmother to see that, or Up in th..."
Crap. I'm behind, as usual. Crazy Heart is a story about an aging, alcoholic country star. The singer he took under his wing has eclipsed him in popularity. Yeah, this story has been told before. It's a good story of redemption without a super-cheesy ending. And it has Robert Duvall. The movie was sort of built around the music, which is by T-Bone Burnett and Stephen Bruton. It's gritty and maybe cliche' but it's got heart and some good music. And Maggie Gyllenhaal...and I've never particularly cared for her, but she's good here. And did I mention Robert Duvall?
