I just loved the character of Thrawn in the 'Heir to the Empire' series. Needless to say, I loved this book (and the art work - young Thrawn - phwaaaah)

Mitth'raw'nuruodo. A composite of Erwin Rommel, Robert E. Lee, Hannibal Barca, Alexander the Great, and Sherlock Holmes. What's not to love?

In my view, Thrawn (in the original Heir to the Empire series) is still the best villain of the Extended Universe. At that, I'm not even sure villain is the best description for the character ...

I agree with both posters. Thrawn is far and away the most intense and realistic 'villain' that has ever graced the pages of the Extended Universe. And like David, I'm not sure that the term villain is quite right, since often times I found myself rooting for Thrawn, waiting to see how he would outwit everybody else.

I totally agree with you, Tim! :) Thrawn is an awesome character and you can't help rooting for him when you read books with him in it. ;) my little bro is a Star Wars Freak and he had me read a book to him once a long time ago and he got me hooked. :P not saying I regret it, cause I don't! ;D he has - it seems like - all of the books!!!! ;) I know he doesn't cause I've seen others on here, but he has a TON!!!!!

I can agree with Thrawn as one of the greatest additions to the SW-Universe, can't agree with "Outbound Flight" though, the whole way they tied it to the second trilogy felt much too forced and hurt the story a lot, it's certainly the weakest of Zahn's entries.

I would like to know how The Outbound Flight Thrawn (An over all good guy, level headed etc etc) to the evil tyrant of the Emprie trilogy.

It's been a while since I read Outbound Flight, but I love Thrawn... best villain since Vader!

I'm a big fan of anything Timothy Zahn writes, I think he's brilliant.

It had a lot of Thrawn wank - but damn if it wasn't superbly written Thrawn wank. The worst offender - the big space battle in the middle of the book (don't want to give any more away because of spoiler concerns) was also admittedly my favorite part. It also greatly fleshed out Thrawn's character and made him out to be much more than an evil tactical genius. And frankly it cut out a lot of the clunkiness that's in a lot of sci-fi novels (particularly Star Wars novels). It was a breeze to read (I literally read it in a day - May 4th, appropriately enough!) and it was one of the most pleasant reading experiences I've ever had.

The Thrawn Trilogy was the best Star Wars Expanded Universe book set. Hands down.
A prequel showing how he got there would be good too!

I remember reading those books as they came out when I was high school, and while I enjoy LOTR and Narnia above most other fantasy books, the Thrawn books just might be next (though who doesn't like the first of the Rodain Trilogy (The Curse of the Rodain)?).

I agree that this was not Zahn's best work but it was still a good book. as for Thrawn I think he is one of the best villains in the SW universe. in fact I hope the new movies have him as the villain.
Of course I know that is unlikely to happen.

Preach it brothers & sisters. The questions isn't whether Thrawn is one of the best characters in the Star Wars universe, certainly the best Imperial. Rather, it's how can Mr. Zahn be convinced to write another. (Does anyone know about any upcoming Thrawn books?) Alternatively, who, if any one, can carry on Mr. Zahn's legacy?
