seriously? that was one of the points of outbound flight. (view spoiler)[ thrawn was very proactive and expelled from the empire because of this. when he learned of the youzahn vong, who had been gathering outside the galaxy since 15 B.B.E, he decided he needed to stop them. he remembered the empire, and that the emperor in particular thought very highly of him, and decided to join the empire and rise through its ranks, using its military might to crush the Vong (and i wish he had succeeded, the whole NJO might have been avoided). Thrawn was no fool, however. he was well aware of the Empires mastery of the dark side of the force, and how he maintained control of the empire by warping the minds of those nearest him. thrawn knowingly gave up a part of his very soul to protect the galaxy. I dont personally believe he was as evil as hes shown in the Sequel Trilogy, i think that the only reason he stayed with the empire is that he needed its military focus. because of this, he couldnt exactly restrucure it to a democracy. (hide spoiler)] i happen to consider myself an expert on the subject of Thrawnology
