I just added it with the moderator powers Barry bequeathed me earlier. It won't show up until you add your topic. But it will appear in the drop-down when you do add your topic. :D

Suzanne | 308 comments Thanks, Marieke!

Chrissie Marieke, you have me chuckling.

Jenny (Reading Envy) (readingenvy) | 1309 comments Marieke, could you add a folder for the Caribbean? We could throw all the little islands in there. I know I'm looking for books set in St. Maarten and St. Thomas for when I go there in May....

I have James Michener's Caribbean as my book on my list. Most of the island countries are in the story. I bought the book when we were in St Maarten on holiday.

Janice (jamasc) I have added a folder for Caribbean.

Jenny (Reading Envy) (readingenvy) | 1309 comments Judy wrote: "Jenny wrote: "I know I'm looking for books set in St. Maarten and St. Thomas for when I go there in May...."

Lucky you! I hope you have a good time, Jenny."

Thanks! I've been to the western Caribbean several times but never some of these smaller more eastern islands. I started learning some basic Dutch online last night, not because I think I'll need it, but because it is FUN. Hehe. Now I can order de koffie and de brood.

message 9: by Janice (new)

Janice (jamasc) You won't need to speak Dutch while in St Maarten, or French if you drive up to the French side of the island. English is used widely. I only heard Dutch spoken once in the week that we were there and that was in a pharmacy between two locals.

You won't need Dutch currency either. US dollars are accepted everywhere. The till slip has both currencies printed on it.

Jenny (Reading Envy) (readingenvy) | 1309 comments Shhhh I cant hear you!

message 11: by Janice (new)

Janice (jamasc) Oops. Sorry. I don't mean to burst your bubble. :)

Ilona (iloenchen) | 12 comments Hello! I just joined and browsed through the topics and I hope I didn't miss anything that would have explained my question. At the beginning of this year, I've read amazing books set in Thailand, Laos and Colombia that I'd like to recommend, but I couldn't find any folders to post in...

message 13: by Anne (new)

Anne (reachannereach) Ilona, don't worry. You didn't miss a thing. The folders don't exist yet. They get made on an as-needed basis. One of the moderators will have to make folders for you.

I'd love to see your list!

message 15: by Ilona (new)

Ilona (iloenchen) | 12 comments Ah, thanks a lot! I just added those three books.

message 16: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie Ooops, here I should request a folder. Please make one for Greece. I want to recommend Eleni

message 17: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie Oh, another folder I would like to request is Burma/Myanmar. I would like to recommend The Piano Tuner. Thank you.

Chrissie Thanks Judy.

Vicky (thesevagabondshoes) | 155 comments I have a recommendation for Føroyar/Faroe Islands, [Book:The Old Man and His Sons|7456138] by Heðin Brú.

Oh my! I've been looking for books set there; THANK YOU!

message 21: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie Starfish, I have added your suggestion too!

message 22: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (thesevagabondshoes) | 155 comments @Jenny and Chrissy, I think you'll both like it. It is quite comic in places, however be warned that the whale hunt is quite graphic.

Judy wrote: "I'm thinking we may need to combine some of these small islands together.....does Islands of the North Atlantic sound acceptable?"

I think it might be necessary to keep the recommendations managable. Would Scandinavia be too widely encompassing a group? And perhaps British Isles to group together the home nations and Ireland?

message 23: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 308 comments I know there's no shortage of books about China, but I've got a wonderful new book to recommend. Could you please add a folder, Jenny?

message 24: by Anne (new)

Anne (reachannereach) Suzanne,
I added a China folder. You can go ahead and add your recommendations now. You will not see the folder until you put something in it.

Good idea, Judy.

message 26: by Niledaughter (new)

Niledaughter I need a folder for Iran please :)

I have a question , some books (mainly historical) cover Iran + central Asia countries , so would it be better to have one folder (Iran and central Asia) or just (Iran ) and later (central Asia) would have folders for each country separately ?

Thanks

message 27: by Niledaughter (new)

Niledaughter Thanks :)

message 28: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie Would someone please add a recommendation thread for Mexico. I just finished The Hummingbird's Daughter and thought it was clearly worth recommending.

message 29: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie Gaeta, thank you. A great choice.

message 30: by Anne (new)

Anne (reachannereach) I'll be reading Hummingbird for Mexico as well. I've had the book sitting around for a couple of years. I'm excited to finally get to it.

Beth (eparks4232) | 311 comments I'd like to request an Uraguay folder for the Memory of Fire series by Eduardo Galeano.

message 46: by Anne (new)

Anne (reachannereach) Beth,
your Uruguay folder is ready. I will start it for you so that you will see it under recommendations.

message 47: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (thesevagabondshoes) | 155 comments Well, geographically speaking, if you include Finland, the term for the region is Fennoscandia. However this doesn't include Iceland, Greenland, Faroes, and in many definitions Denmark.

And strictly speaking, Scandinavia is only Norway, Sweden and Denmark (Faroes and Greenland are counted sometimes by virtue of their association with Denmark.)

How about Nordic Countries?

message 48: by Chel (new)

Chel | 187 comments Just allow the individual countries please, if possible.

message 49: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (valyrina) Could you create folders for Lebanon and the Philippines?

message 50: by Anne (new)

Anne (reachannereach) Sure. I will make them now. But hey won't show up until you put something in them.
