Please feel free to join in, at any time!

Michelle [Helen Geek] (michelle_reads_to_relax) | 63 comments I'm in. Just bought it for my Nook. I'll start tomorrow too. This is my first buddy or dare read, so hope I do this right. I read pretty fast.

Lauren (laurenjberman) This is going to be such fun!

This will be my first book by this author. On my challenge to read this month. I like other dragon books, so am looking forward to this on many levels. I agree, will be fun!

Lauren (laurenjberman) You will definitely get your dragon fix here!

Lauren (laurenjberman) What do you guys think about the cover?

Mondal Prosanto (mondalprosanto) | 1 comments Mmm! it's realy so good that is i will keep it in my next reading term....

Michelle [Helen Geek] (michelle_reads_to_relax) | 63 comments I like the cover. Attracted me when I saw it advertised online. I've enjoyed other dragon shifter books and thought -- "gotta try". Yep.

I've read the first chapter and it is going to be hard not to read through the night on this one. Really like it so far.

Michelle [Helen Geek] (michelle_reads_to_relax) | 63 comments Okay ladies, I'm on Chapter 5. Loving this book. What do you think. Different spin. Very nice. What do you think of Dragos?

Christine (Cagnes) (cagnes) | 118 comments I'm not very far along, just finished chapter 3 & it's getting interesting!

Lauren (laurenjberman) I love how Harrison has incorporated traditional dragon mythology into Dragos's character. The idea of a dragon's hoard and him being possessive about something as small as a coin is so clever.

Christine (Cagnes) (cagnes) | 118 comments Just finished the book & loved it! Can't wait to read the next book, I hope that Dragos & Mia are part of it. I'd love to read more of their story. We never did learn Pia's real name... did we?

Lauren (laurenjberman) Glad you enjoyed it Christine. I also can't wait to read Storm's Heart (will read it this month).
No we don't learn her real name ... I wonder if we ever will because knowing someone's name means you have power over them, lol!

Michelle [Helen Geek] (michelle_reads_to_relax) | 63 comments Sorry ladies. I got side tracked with another buddy read - Passion by Lisa Valdez. I have about 100 pages left to go, but am really liking this book. I'll read others by her, no doubt. I'll let you know if I have any earth shattering comments I can't keep to myself ;)

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments There wasn't much I didn't like about this. I had a bit of a problem with the age of the dragon.

Michelle [Helen Geek] (michelle_reads_to_relax) | 63 comments Photojim wrote: "There wasn't much I didn't like about this. I had a bit of a problem with the age of the dragon."

I agree. I immediately went out and bought book 2 & 3. I'm going to wait a bit, but can't wait to read. I haven't read any others by TH - have any of you?

Lauren (laurenjberman) Photojim wrote:"I had a bit of a problem with the age of the dragon."

What is it about his age that rubbed you the wrong way? Was it that he is so much older than Pia?

Michelle wrote: "I haven't read any others by TH - have any of you."

I will hopefully be reading Storm's Heart this month.

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments I will certainly be reading more in the series. But I have yet to do so.

Now about the age issue. It's not just that he's "so much older" but exactly how old he is. We aren't talking about hundreds of years. We aren't even talking about thousands, or even hundreds of thousands of years, but MILLIONS and BILLIONS of years. The beginning of the book talks about him being around for the creation of Earth. Since that's roughly 4.2 billion years as a celestial body, that makes him REALLY REALLY OLD. He was alive for billions of years before humans came to be. And yet he was bored for a little while now? Now that he spends every day ruling the world? Not buying it. Were he a couple of thousand years old I could understand much better. But billions? Nope.

The second problem I have with his eternal god-like demeanor is that he was kind of a pussy for being all powerful. He's been able to take on and destroy all his enemies for all eternity and he gets taken down and robbed of all his powers by a couple of elves that surprised him? Again, if he weren't so old I can see that he should have some more weaknesses. He can let out a roar from an underground vault that is strong enough to shatter windows and do tens of millions of dollars in property damage but surprise him with a couple of elves and even lowly goblins can keep him chained and imprisoned? Still not buying it.

But don't get me wrong. I really enjoyed this book. I loved the writing. I liked the characters. I liked the pacing. Good dialog with an interesting plot. It still earned a solid 4/5 stars with me.

Michelle [Helen Geek] (michelle_reads_to_relax) | 63 comments PhotoJim -- Love, Love how you think! Normally the details bother me, if they don't get them right, but a fictional Dragon book ... too creative by half. I'm willing to let it pass.

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments Oh, I let it pass. I bought #2 and #3 today new from the bookstore so I obviously enjoyed it. I was just explaining what I meant by "I had a bit of a problem with the age of the dragon."

Lauren (laurenjberman) @PhotoJIm - you make some interesting points. I must say the age thing didn't bother me. I just accepted that he was a dragon created at the beginning of time and that its taken him a long time to get bored. I liked the fact that it is Pia that gets him out of his complacency.

In terms of the Goblins, you make a solid point but I though it was explained quite well within the plot. The reason he couldn't just take them out was because his powers were frozen by the Elf arrow and the reason he didn't attack the Elves was because he didn't want Pia getting hurt in the crossfire.

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments True Colors (Elder Races #3.5) by Thea Harrison - this is the novella - it'll be released by Samhain on the 10th (IIRC) - so for the winner, they will get it as soon as its released, literally hot of the press

Barbara ★ | 3924 comments I just finished this book last week and absolutely loved it. Dragos is wonderful no matter how old he is. Hey age is just a number...right? I liked Pia's attitude and her compassion for everyone and everything.

I went right out and purchased books 2 and 3 and reserved 4 even though I have a moratorium on purchasing books in 2012. I just couldn't help myself since there will be no waiting to continue this story like I usually do. This is one of the few series that I could actually sit down and read one after the other. But of course, I ordered from bookdepository so it will be over a month before they arrive. Oh well.
