Kristie (spedkristie) | 385 comments It's time to get my monthly audiobook.....what should I listen to?

Peanut | 149 comments Have you listened/read to Life of Pi yet? I thought the narrator did a GREAT job.

Also good are David Sedaris books on CD. They are essays but he's hysterical because he reads his own stuff. As annoying as his voice first appears, it totally suits the stories.

I'd also recommend Sweet Potato Queen books. FUNNY STUFF!

Kathy (readr4ever) | 111 comments One of my favorite books first got me hooked on its audiobook. Saving Fish From Drowning authored by and read by Amy Tan is wonderful. Amy Tan's reading of it just swept me away.

Laura (apenandzen) | 1445 comments I am really enjoying the audio of Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell, but it's a 2 CD set, so not sure if you could do that. It's terrific though, Brit lit magic for adults.

Denise (deniseg53) | 4 comments I have heard that "The 19th Wife" is fantastic on audio.

Meg (megvt) | 3069 comments I loved Pillars of the Earth's audio book. Also, Prisoner at Birth, Love the One You Are With, and Snow Flower and the Secret Fan.

Annette (annette_marie_reads) | 17 comments The Poisonwood Bible is what got me hooked on audiobooks. I had tried several times to read this book but just couldn't get into it. But I loved it and was hooked right away with the audio format.

Lydia (loverofinformation) When I worked in a public library, audiobooks were how I stayed on top of the demands of what we in library land call "Readers' Advisory" -- where people come in asking for something "like" what they have already ready or something interesting, etc.

A couple things I learned most about audiobooks are to select those read either by the author or an accomplished reader, and unabridged versions. Depending on what you like, that criteria may be able to help you make a selection.

Meg (megvt) | 3069 comments I am thinking of getting Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society as an audio, I think listening to the different voices doing the letters might be an amazing treat.

message 11: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) | 1445 comments It was terrific, Meg. I listened & audio-ed Guernsey and the different readers were top-notch. That's a great idea for you Kristie, if you haven't already read it.
