I too read this book years ago. Reading your review showed me just how much of it I've forgotten. I think I'll reread it sometime soon, as I know I enjoyed it the first time round.

I remember 'The Woman in White' slightly better and if you haven't read it I think you'd enjoy it too.

I enjoyed reading your review Judith! I avoid long reviews on amazon because they often contain spoilers - or I get bored wth them! I didn't find that with yours at all!! Very interesting.

As I suggested this book I need to write a review. It's too early now and I haven't had enough tea to wake me up! Will have to come back to this after I've given it a bit of thought. My review will only be short though - I can never think of more than a sentence or two..

I loved The Woman in White, although like the Moonstone I read it so long ago I only have faint remembrances of it.

Nonsense! So, Jud, since you're feeling tongue-tied, let me ask you what your favorite moment in the book was. I'm always fascinated by how differently everyone answers a question like that even when they feel similarly about a book.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments my favourite moment was Miss Clack running around the house putting her books in places where people would unexpectedly but definitely come across them.

You have me laughing!

I have two moments that particularly made me laugh - when Miss Clack said that she had left one of her improving books to Rachel in her will - and when Gabriel told us that the stuffed eagle (or whatever it was) exploded!

oh yea!!! He was hilarious when he was setting the house up exactly as it was for the experiment. Like a spoilt child.

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Glad I've read it again as I'd forgotten most of it. Now think I'll re-read Woman in White. Either that or Robinson Crusoe!

Cw (confusedwombat) I have put the brakes on. Am enjoying it so much I am trying to restrict myself to just a chapter a day to make it last longer.

I really have no idea why I am loving it so much, something about it not taking itself seriously? I just know that I owe the group a huge hug of thanks for moving it from my "one day" :)

I think you have hit on something very true in "not taking itself seriously". Collins always has his tongue in his cheek at least a little bit in some way or other, even when in some other way he's quite serious. It makes it such a pleasant read. I'm afraid I did not have any restraint, no ch a day for me. I was a piggy.
