How Good Did You Think It Was?

I finished this book on my kindle And I thought it was awesome but I want to see what everyone else thinks :)

You could look through the hundreds of reviews people post on the book's Goodreads page. :)

I really like it. I haven't finished it yet but I know how it ends. (Spoilers, whatever, I almost prefer being prepared. If we really read books to find out what happens, wouldn't we be reading one-page summaries instead?) I agree with laura, never a dull chapter. Especially impressed with the characters' points of view communicated in how their sections are written, he really gets into each character's head and sees through their eyes and that's what makes it so engaging, I can't believe the few comments I've read that say characterization was a weak point.

I love how this book managed the job of writing from multiple perspectives. Then there's the fact that whatever was happening - romance, war, plotting, flirting, travelling, whatever - there was never a dull chapter. That's pretty damn hard to pull off.

It was well written book but not my cup of tea.

I had already watched the series before I read the book, and I loved it anyway. I'm on the fifth book now (Dance with Dragons). I recommend you keep reading, the scope of the story is mind boggling, intense and totally addictive.

the lunatic ending of Thrones almost put me off, seriously one of the dumbest images ever written. but i still bought the sequel and am tearing through it - i get the feeling (and this is just a gut feel) that each of the books will be a good read but have a daft ending

It's OK. Through most of it I was thinking 'I'm not going to read the next one', until the end, when I realised that actually i had to read the next one. I really like the next two, though I haven't re-read them in a while.

I'd say it's the mediocre but acceptable first installment in a series that gets a lot better.

I reread the 1st 4 this summer in anticipation of A Dance With Dragons and loved the series more the second time around.

Amazing. It's a wonder the author can remember all of his characters and maintain each of their distinct personalities.

I wouldn't call it the best fantasy book ever (then again, I haven't read many fantasy books to begin with), but it was enjoyable.

My aunt recommended this way before the HBO series had a chance to publicize it. I've always been a stickler for medieval times and sci-fi, so this book drew me in right away. After the dramatic ending sequence, I went on to read the rest of the series. The narrative was raw, unafraid of violence, triumph and defeat. Great way to spend a winter!
