The book is taking place in France during the middle ages. The story is following an English archer named Thomas. Thomas is on a quest for the holy grail but he has been excommunicated. He is being pursued by his cousin who he wishes to kill. In the part of the story I read, Thomas was captured by bandits and nearly had his fingers chopped off because that was the punishment for a captured archer, but he managed to escape from that punishment and killed the bandit leader. The primary conflict is that Thomas is being hunted like a fox. My personal response is that I really enjoy this book, it is relatively historically accurate but with made up characters which makes history very interesting.
