Becca (ladybeccaboo) | 40 comments Hi guys,
I've been a member for a number of years but have been on hiatus for the past 2 or so. I figured it was time to reintroduce myself. Since I was very active, I've had a daughter who has special needs, and she is the sweetest thing in the world. My favorite genre is still romance, and my current favorites are Wrong and Right by Jana Aston.
Question for you guys - is there a Discord for this group? Thanks!

Hi Rebecca - great to see you back here :D

To answer your question: is there a Discord for this group?
I'm guessing we don't have this since I'm not sure what it means :)

Heather Largin | 1 comments Hello,

My name is Heather. Absolutely love reading, I look forward to doing some buddy reads and finding some new books that I will love. I borrow from the library so some books are hard for me to find :( But I look forward to reading some books with you guys ❤️ I have a 3 month old daughter so my reading pace is kinda slow right now :(

Welcome Heather! We have challenges for all paces :)

Have you seen the Buddy Read challenge?
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Karen runs this each month. A nice way to slowly reenter the reading circle :) Unfortunately you have just missed the July one... Watch for it in the monthly newsletter :)

J. Marie Hey ya'll!
Discovering Goodreads has been the best (because I have found so many amazing books through here) and worst (because I'm so tempted to abandon all responsibilities to read 24/7). I love intense romance novels that have moments where I'm violently chewing my lip tensed and moments when I'm trying to quietly laugh in bed because its 3 am and I don't want to wake up my boyfriend.... I know I'm not the only one!
I'm looking forward to getting move involved in the GR community!

Hey Heather! I'm in graduate school so I'm all about cheap and easy. I know most people have Kindles or the Kindle app, but the Nook app (Barnes and Nobles version of the Kindle) has a ton of free books! My last book I read (Naught Boss by Whitney G) cost money on Amazon Kindle but was free on the Nook app. Just thought I would throw it out there :)

Hey Keiria! I completely understand where you're coming from about going bankrupt! I remember begging my mom in Barnes & Nobles to buy me books when I was younger, but she would limit me to 2-3 per visit. Now that I'm grown and see how expensive books are I totally understand! Have you tried Kindle Unlimited? I'm doing the free trial and haven't completely decided my thoughts on it yet. Also, the Nook app has a lot of free books :)

Hi Jillian! When i was a kid, my mom got me a library card and i remember feeling like it was my passport to anywhere i wanted to go. I treasured that little yellow laminated card more than anything! During the school year, i'd borrow 2 - 3 books/week from the school library and during the summer, once/week, my mom would take me to the public library and i'd check out 5 books every week. I have tried kindle unlimited, my problem with it is that very seldom does it have the books that i want to read in that program so i cancelled my subscription. I may renew it at some point down the road, but for right now Bookbub saves me money (they also force me to spend more since it always seems to be the first book in a series that's discounted).

message 3066: by Lav (new)

Lav (visionoflilac) | 1 comments Hi! I'm Kayla. This is one of my attempts at becoming both an active GoodReads member and reader. I have a bit of an addiction to books. The title of this group caught my eye because romance and challenges are a good combination. This may also help to get me into the romance category as my bookshelves are filled with mystery novels. What a good way to begin dabbling in a new genre!

message 3067: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31796 comments Welcome Kayla! There are lots of romance with mysteries, so you could combine your favorites! The challenges are lots of fun and many new ones started today with the beginning of July - check out the Monthly Challenges folder. That's a great place to start, but there are lots of other challenges too. =)

Welcome to the group Kayla!! (We'll probably call you Lav from now on though ;) Hope you have fun browsing the challenges, and as MountainKat says, maybe you could combine some of your genres for the best of both worlds :)

message 3070: by Taryn (new)

Taryn (bibliovore22) | 6 comments Hi everyone! My name is Taryn. I've been reading romance novels since I was 13. I used to hide them under my bead so my mom wouldn't find out I was borrowing her books. Right now I'm hooked on the Stone Society series by Faith Gibson (love me some sexy Gargoyles) and the Immortal Guardian series by Dianne Duvall.

message 3071: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31796 comments Welcome Taryn! I can't say I've been reading romance that long, but even when I was a kid, I wanted my happy endings! Just didn't realize that would lead to romance until years later. =)

I hope you have fun here - we all love romance!

Welcome to the group Taryn! I have to admit I hid my romances as well from my family, although they weren't from my mother ~ I had to borrow from kids at school or go down to the book exchange :) Thanks heavens they were dead cheap!

Enjoy browsing our bookshelves and challenges :D

message 3073: by Lep (last edited Jul 17, 2018 03:09PM) (new)

Lep | 8 comments Hi, I've just joined. I used to join in the discussions on Amazon back in the day. I'm quite wide in the genre's I read. These include:
thrillers; romantic suspense; some fantasy; historical; historical romance/Regencies; women's literature.

I have a house full of books, some I have read and others yet to read. After comments from my husband about his having to soon reinforce the floors because of the weight of the books, I have now started being very good and give most of the books away once I've read them, to charity shops, keeping just a few favourites.

I love reading and always have done from a small child. I roughly read about 5 books a month, maybe more, I haven't really counted.

message 3074: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24350 comments Welcome to the groups Lep!! Having to reinforce floors due to book weights would be pretty extreme 🤣

I pretty much took all my physical books to a second hand store or gave them away about 5 years ago. I love my ereaders, so I’d rather hold them electronically now.

Hope you enjoy our group!

Not into ebooks at all. I like the tactile feel of real books. My husband bought me a Kindle as a Christmas present some years again, despite the fact that I'd earlier said I didn't want one. Worst Christmas present I've ever had! LOL

message 3076: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31796 comments Hi Lep! Too bad ebook don't work for you - they've been a lifesaver for me and I've been able to get some control on my collections. Hopefully your floors survive! =P

Welcome to the group and I hope the challenges don't do more damage to your floors!

Verah (goodreadscomverah_kibiro) | 1 comments Hi! I'm Verah.Addicted to books and self confessed bibliophile. I love to read and I am constantly reading... I enjoy reading books that irritate my friends because once I start, there has to be a really good reason for me to stop reading... Grrr, I hate it when I have to stop half way through a good book. I am random and weird and everyone thinks I am too absent minded. I read pretty much anything, but am particularly fond of thrillers and romance.I look forward to being a part of the group.

I hope you have fun here - we all love romance so you should be able to find some good ones to add to your shelves. =)

And you wouldn't guess English is your second language!

message 3092: by Ro (new)

Ro (rooc) | 51 comments HI everyone! I'm Lucy and I read constantly. Thank heaven for Ipad, because now I don't worry about people judging my books by their covers. I read a lot of different things but mostly MM romance of all types and some MF romance mostly historical. Im looking forward to getting my TBR pile down a little with challenges!

message 3093: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24350 comments Welcome Lucy!! I’d love to not care about being judged on my book covers but unfortunately that’s easier said than done!! But I agree, with Kindle & iPads it is less obvious 😊

Jump in on any of the challenges ~ there are plenty here to help you knock off your TBR!

message 3094: by Ankita (new)

Ankita (ankitalikestoread) | 1 comments Hey everyone! I'm Ankita and I'm from India, so please bear with me, as english is not my first language. I'm 18 so I guess it's understandable when I say I love NA and YA books. Romance is basically what I like reading and goodreads has given me so many amazing books to satisfy my thirst for it. PnR, UF and HR are some other genres I spend hours reading. Thank you for having me here! 🤗

message 3095: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24350 comments Welcome to the group Ankita!! And your English looks perfect to me 🙂 Look forward to seeing you in the challenges!

message 3096: by Kassandra (new)

Kassandra (kween_kass) | 2 comments Hello, I'm Kass!

I'm an Avid reader, and I love reading all types of romance books. I find I am drawn to writing that focuses on interpersonal stories, probably because I have a psychology degree that is collecting dust while I work in the high tech industry. Anyway, I am excited to be here and hope to hear about some authors I haven't read before.

message 3097: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31796 comments Welcome Lucy, Ankita and Kass!! Glad to have you with us! The challenges are a great way to knock off books one your TBR as well as find new authors - sort of a double edged sword!

message 3098: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24350 comments Welcome to the group Kassi! I love how diverse the skills are in the romance reading spectrum! We come from different backgrounds with different interests & jobs, yet we all love romance 😍

message 3099: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (jessica_peter) Hello all, I'm Jessica. I just discovered this group through Goodread's Romance Newsletter, though I've been an avid Goodreads member - and challenge participant in other groups - for a long time. I can't believe I've missed it for so long, as I'm also a big romance reader. My main sub-genres are historical (Regency, Victorian, Georgian, 20th C) and paranormal.

message 3100: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24350 comments Welcome to the group Jessica! That’s interesting that the group was in the Romance letter ~ I’m not signed up for that 🙃 Hope you enjoy your time here and ask any of us for clarification on the challenges etc at any time. Generally someone is around and happy to help!
