Hey Moomba - welcome to the group! I wasn't game to commit to a year of that challenge in MMR so I'd be interested to know what you think of it! (I abstained from the ScavHunt this year for the same reason, but I think they may have downgraded the level of effort required each month for this round?)

Hey Jane, don't worry about a whole year of commitment. We started in February which feels like yesterday so time really flies. I like that the teams are randomly put together so meeting new GR members and discovering new books and authors is a given. It's totally up to you to leave your comfort zone and stretch your boundaries. The Ultimate Team Challenge (UTC) consists of the main challenge (basically 12 monthly challenges) and bonus challenges. During the main challenge you get points for the number of books/month you read and also the number of pages/month you read. It's mandatory that the books have 30+ pages and are MM only.
The bonus challenges can last one month or 2 months and are by choice. Usually the bonus challenge is played by members of your team but you can also be put in a team with other UTC players. In that case you don't earn points as a team but individually which will benefit your original UTC team. The bonus challenges are fun games like monopoly, twister or wheel of fortune. The difference to the main challenge is that here the themes are set.

This is my first UTC and I really like it. You can read whatever you want and as many books as you want. Since life is unpredictable you are under no pressure. Give 2018 a try. I think you'll like it :D

Jane (PS) | 24353 comments Thanks for the run-down Moomba! I’ll def can’t snider joining next year’s UTC :)

MountainKat | 31805 comments Hi Robyn! I think a lot of us are Amazon refugees, I left there many years ago. I eventually landed here and love it! Everyone is kind, friendly and helpful. =) I hope you make yourself at home and jump into some challenges and discussions!

message 2814: by Amy (new)

Amy (tympermyntal1) | 68 comments I've been a member for a while but life kinda side tracked. We've moved twice in the last 3 years. Finally settled into our new home and getting things situated again. Happy to be back up in WI again. I missed it. Didn't realize how much till we came back and I fell in love with it all over again.

Realized I hadn't been on GR for a while. I came in and then noticed I was 20 books behind on my goal. I'm slowing getting that caught up. I've read 3 books in the last couple weeks and have 3 more in progress.

message 2818: by Lotte (new)

Lotte Woess Hello - I am pretty happy to join this group. My Name is Lotte and I am living in Austria (no kangaroos, this country is in the middle of Europe). Reading ist one of my favourite hobbies, I prefer Romance, but if it is a thrilling story, I also read another genre. I appologize for my English is not correct.
I am also an author, writing Romance novels, one of them just has been translated into English.
I hope to find here many new books to read.

Jane (PS) | 24353 comments Welcome to the group Robyn, Brittany and Lotte; and welcome back Amy!!

Too bad about Amazon Robyn, although I know nothing about it.

Amy - great to hear you have re-settled and back in your reading groove. A little time away often reinvigorates :D

So pleased you found us Brittany and hope you find plenty of fodder to feed your romance habit!

And LOL Lotte - I'm in Australia and we so often get called Austria with ppl asking us about Europe! I love that you get the opposite treatment!!

message 2820: by Lotte (new)

Lotte Woess Hi Jane, my best wishes to 'Down under'. I've never been there, but one of my best friends is living in Goldcoast/Queensland. It must be great, to live in this country.

She has been living in Australia for almost 20 years now, her husband is an Australian. She enjoys ist, only the border controll ist always very hard. She has to open her suitcases and they do not let her keep any souvenir, she buys in her hometown Vienna.

Amber | 9 comments Hello everyone, NEWBIE HERE!!!!

My name is Amber and love love lover to read. I read many books in just one day depending on how well they have gotten my attention. I have read from many different genres but find myself always to coming back to some good 'ole romance!!! My newest author that I have found has got to be Aurora Rose Reynolds. I am so in love with her books I can't put them down.
I look forward to finding some new books for me to read (since that is my main reason for joining) and meeting other readers like me.

Jane (PS) | 24353 comments Hi Emily - I think a few of us are here for similar reasons (to talk about the books we read as no-one else in our circle reads the same genres). Welcome to the group! Jump in anywhere ;)

Hi Edmilson - great to have you with us! Hopefully looking through the books posted here on the various threads may help you find a book that helps you into reading :)

...The books that reintroduced me back into a consistent pattern of reading were The Harry Potter books by JK Rowling (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone), and the Twilight series (Twilight). Whilst I didn't like the Twlight series as much as the Potter books, both really help me find other books that could suit :D

message 2834: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31805 comments Hi Emily and welcome! It's hard to be surrounded by non-readers, my hubby barely reads at all! And almost never for enjoyment so he doesn't understand. That is what this group is for though - I know everyone here will get it if I gush about how great a book is. =)

message 2835: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31805 comments Welcome Edmilson! Jane gave you some good suggestions, but it is hard to know what is going to work for someone. I personally love series, where I get to visit with the same community and people over several books! It could be a classic like the Anne of Green Gables books or something current and fun like Jill Shalvis' Lucky Harbor books. J.D. Robb's In Death books with Roarke and Eve Dallas are a great romantic suspense series - set in the future where she is a murder cop. For paranormal, you might want to look into J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood books, Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress or even Darynda Jones' Charley Davidson series - they are all great, though very different. Good luck!

JB Jacobs | 2 comments I will try my intro again. Sorry for an incorrect post. My pen name JB Jacobs. I write romance novels. Steamy romance novels. I have read many romance novels recently and in my youth. I like a book that can set up a world so strong I will dream about it when I'm not reading the book. My hope is that I am as good as a writer as this!

Juliana Philippa (julianaphilippa) | 42 comments Hey everyone! I've actually been a member for quite awhile (since 2011), but wasn't sure where else to post this in the group ... is there a way to find out where people are geographically? There's a link to that on the intro message, but it's now frozen.

I'm really interested in meeting up with GR romance readers in real-life (am in the Boston MA area), but not sure how to find people ...

Romance was my first love and introduction to reading. Used to devour Harlequin books. Used to read one to two a day. Right now I still love romance but find myself reading a lot of mm romance. Just find myself drawn to that kind of reading. Also loving biker romances as the men are so raw but vulnerable. Love Kristen Ashley anything.

message 2841: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31805 comments Welcome JB, glad to have you here! And that is one of my favorite parts of romance - getting transported to another world!

message 2842: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31805 comments I Julianna, I'm not sure how to help you with that. I've actually met up with a few friends I've met in online groups, but we became 'friends' first and meeting in real life was a result of that. And some co-incidences of location.

The thread you mentioned was used for the monthly challenge a while back, but I will bring it up to the other mods and see what they think about reopening it or a new thread. I don't know what will happen though, so no promises. =)

message 2843: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31805 comments Hi Mialy and welcome to the group! Most of us here are addicted to romance too, so you are in the right place!

message 2844: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24353 comments Hi Juliana - the thread that is locked was maintained by a mod that has stepped back due to RL.

After some discussion, we suggest you create a new thread in the ‘Introduce Yourself’ segment seeking other members in your region who may be interested in a RL book club :)

Meanwhile we’ll discuss other options for this sort of thing...
