Janice Mitchell (jannyfae) | 26 comments Well, they did "kill" him off once before, only to be saved by his brother. But you do have a point about "Jr." I think this is all why we love The Gents so much ... they revived suspense in a big way! There's no guessing what they will do next! I just love that because I've ALWAYS been able to guess whodunnit; I like being stumped by The Gents.

Joyce Wrobbel | 117 comments I am afraid that "Jr." would not do it
for me!
There is only ONE AXLP.
I do not think they will kill off
the "golden" goose.

Diane Fisli | 189 comments Well, I was speaking of the far-ahead future. Twenty years or more. If any of you read any of Clive Cussler's Dirk Pitt novels you will understand how Dirk has aged in the books. If you think about it honestly, AXLP will have to age as well... Maybe Corrie will be his protege... I dunno...

No, I can't see the Gents killing off the "golden" goose, either. AXLP has now become a literary "giant" among giant characters such as Sherlock Holmes, or Poirot... Eventually when age is to much, when it gets difficult to do the kinds of things necessary to survive as an investigating detective, perhaps AXLP will retire to a country farm and keep bees (LOL!).

I think you catch the reference! :o)

Joyce Wrobbel | 117 comments Wasn't it Poirot who retired to raise
vegetables?
I love that character too.

Let us hope that the books will not
go by the year but by adventures
That way we can keep AXLP at a certain
age for a while longer.

I hate it when our beloved characters slow down.

Diane Fisli | 189 comments Yeah. I'd like to see AXLP "ageless" - he's got to keep in fighting shape to battle off problem enemies such as that poor thing in SLWC... That was one heckuva battle in the cave!

I am expecting a blow-up of epic proportions in 2G. I'm always going to think of it as "A Can Of Whoop-Ass" because Pendergast can really make things explode (like in FD at Tiny's!). XD

message 56: by Joyce (new)

Joyce Wrobbel | 117 comments A Can Of Whoop-Ass would have been
great!

I like it when Pendergast goes
a little over to the wild side.
Like in Brimstone and that disgusting
Bullard.

Go Pendie go!

message 57: by Diane (new)

Diane Fisli | 189 comments Hee hee, YEAH!

message 58: by Judy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Judy | 5 comments Diane- I loved that scene in FD VERY much!!! Heck yeah. Went a little Rambo on 'em. Justice for Laura. Always a gentleman!

message 59: by Joyce (new)

Joyce Wrobbel | 117 comments I believe we like Pendergast going
"Rambo" on us because he is mostly
a very polite and genteel sort
of guy.
When he does go after the baddies he
goes whole hog!

message 60: by Diane (new)

Diane Fisli | 189 comments Underneath all that gentility lies the man who went through Special Forces training and whatever else went on with his training to work for the Bureau. We know he's got that going on - and it's nice to see it pop up now and again when it is needed. It's kinda sexy to have a "lace doily" type turn into a guy who does whatever it takes to protect a woman's "virtue" (LOL!).

Joyce Wrobbel | 117 comments Know what you mean.
There are loads of series characters
out there and they are rough and
tough to begin with. No surprise there
with them.
But Pendergast is so polite, well schooled,
beautifully dressed etc. that when he does
start to bang heads we cheer even louder.
And I love his sarcasm and wit!

Joyce Wrobbel | 117 comments Diane I love your comments on FB.
I have not gotten up the nerve to
join yet.
I am on a site called Stormhaven
and I like that one a lot.

message 63: by Diane (new)

Diane Fisli | 189 comments Ah, Stormhaven? Tell me more!

(thanks about the comments - I can be such a whackjob!) XD

message 64: by Joyce (new)

Joyce Wrobbel | 117 comments Stormhaven is probably the ffirst Pendergast
message forum.
A lot of the people have gone to FB but there
are still those of us who love Stormhaven
Just punch in Preston and Child Stormhaven
on your searcher and it will come up.
