Hero name: TBD
Age: Sixteen (16)
Gender: Male
Power: Telekinesis. Martin can move objects with his mind, from tennis balls to people (and everything in between.) His power is quite ranged—he’s able to accomplish simple feats like levitation as well as more complex ones, such as sending darts straight for the bullseye without straining anything except his mind.
Weakness: While his power is quite versatile, it’s not without its faults. Telekinesis is a power that puts immense strain on one’s mind, and that strain only worsens the bigger the feat one tries to accomplish. Martin could not, for example, send a car flipping end over end and into a building without collapsing afterwards from the exhaustion. Think of it like lifting weights: the bigger the object, the bigger the strain, and his capacity for the pain that overextending his power tends to cause isn’t as great as he would like it to be. He’s training and beginning to build his tolerance, but he can still only take so much. At present, Martin is limited to moving objects no larger than your average dresser and weighing no more than 250 pounds, though anything smaller and lighter (up to and including animate objects like people and animals) are fairly easy to lift and even throw, though he would be feeling the pain afterwards depending on their size. His telekinesis is also limited to tangible solids—he can’t control things like water or fire—and in addition, his power doesn’t work if he can’t see what he’s lifting and where he’s taking it.
Appearance: Martin’s serious, sober demeanor is often reflected in his appearance. Though he can be very attractive when he bothers to play the part, it’s clear he’d much rather leave well enough alone. Light brown hair, always ruffled and slightly wavy, tops his head, coming down to the top of his ears in front and reaching no lower than the his collar bone in back. Beneath his hairline sit a pair of dark blue eyes, in which you will often find very little emotion (his eyebrows, thinly arched and hard to notice though they are, make up for that with their own expressiveness.) Moving down past his slightly hooked nose, you’ll find his lips to be a darker shade of pink, their thickness often accented by the constant purse of thought that shapes them. His face, all in all, is rather unremarkable—what really makes Martin stand out in a crowd is his figure. He stands at an imposing 6”1, and well-defined muscles make him seem much more threatening than he actually is. He’s pale despite his athletic build, a fact that’s emphasized by the dark colors—mostly grays, blacks, and navy blues—that he prefers to wear.

I don’t care how funny you think you are: you’re not amusing me.

In thinking mode, as usual.
Hero appearance: In costume, Martin wears a gray jumpsuit, snug but easy to move in. He wears no mask or accessories of any kind (save a few knives hidden in his boots) but dark gloves cover his hands and a hood will often conceal most of his face.
Personality: Martin is a boy who’s all about efficiency. You’ll always find him calm and in control of himself, even in the most stressing of situations; the eye of the storm. He’s one of those people who prefers to slip by unnoticed, who keeps to himself more often than not, who has a knack for learning but not quite the same knack for interacting with others. He favors listening to talking and considers observation to be the best policy in almost all cases—“If you don’t know all there is to know about a situation,” he says, “then there’s no use in attempting to act. When you know, then you can plan. Then you can fight.” He takes the words to heart, and thus has become just short of antisocial; that said, there’s more to Martin than an impenetrable calm and extreme thoughtfulness, though he sometimes acts as if that’s all there is. In reality, the boy is quite impulsive, with a temper that is not unheard of and largely feared (though he’s much better at keeping it in than he was.) Impulsiveness aside, years of tactical observation have bred in him a great intelligence and fantastic problem-solving skills—if there’s an emergency, you can almost always count on Martin to be quick about finding a way to resolve it. However, sometimes his plans, while always well-thought out, can get a little…questionable, moral-wise. He’s not afraid to sacrifice the good of one for the good of many, and be warned: if you stand in his way, you will become a target.
Likes: Quiet places, rainy days, libraries, thoughtful people, books, learning, and puzzle games such as Sudoku and chess.
Dislikes: People with no filter from their brains to their mouths, loud crowds, hypocrites, those who put brawn in front of brain, the obnoxious, the rash, and bright colors (especially neons).
Traits: He has a tendency to tap his fingers on whatever is convenient when bored, and can often be found strolling about the school grounds, especially outside—nature helps him think.
History: Martin was born an average child to average parents in the small fishing town of Addison, Maine. His parents, while not on extremely high wages, made enough money as a teacher and a fisherman to support themselves and their little boy, and for the most part Martin found himself receiving anything he asked for. He did take advantage of this, occasionally (puzzle books and games were almost constantly asked for) but for the majority of the time his home life remained uninteresting, save a few little mishaps involving his slightly over-curious mind and the family cat.
No, the more interesting part of his life took place at school. Martin was an above-average student, with straight A’s all across the board and a passion for extracurricular activities like gym and sometimes even art. His interest in these earned him a bit more popularity than he would have otherwise had (especially when they would play sports in gym), and though he didn’t always appreciate it the boy generally came to accept the stares as part of the norm. He came to believe that it was just good aim that sent the basketball soaring over everybody’s heads and straight into the net when they would divide into teams and play. He came to think that it was simply luck that kept the volleyball from touching the ground when it flew to his side of the court (despite the fact that the same ball would remain almost suspended in midair no matter how slowly he went to make the pass.) Eventually, he even came to attribute his skill at Frisbee with a good arm rather than anything else, even though he’d never been incredibly good at the sport before.
But it wasn’t just aim or luck or skill; and some of the students started to realize that. When he was in the sixth grade, twelve-year-old Martin was stopped in the hallway by a small group of classmates after he won yet another game of basketball with a seemingly impossible shot, and the biggest and meanest of them demanded to know what kind of steroids he was using. Martin, dumbfounded, replied that he wasn’t using drugs and then firmly told all of them off—and that was when things got ugly. Two of the five boys pinned him to the wall while a third got up in his face to accuse him of lying. They went round and round for a few minutes, Martin calmly denying any use of enhancements and the boy accusing him, time after time, of being a liar. Eventually, the game got old—when Martin continued refusing to talk, the boys simply resorted to physical violence. The next time he said that steroids had nothing to do with his skills in sports, he earned a broken nose and a solid left hook to the jaw for his trouble.
When he was hit, something in Martin snapped. He shook free of the two holding him down and sent the boy who’d punched him flying, only to slam him into the opposite wall hard enough to break the plaster and knock him out. The other four, who after a moment all realized that the small sixth grader had done this without moving a muscle, high-tailed it with wild calls of ‘Freak! Freak! You killed him!’ This sent teachers racing down the hall. They saw the damage; saw the boy standing in the middle of it all, and did the only logical thing: they called the police, and then his parents. By luck of the draw, one of the officers to arrive happened to have been an agent for NGA, and when he assessed the situation and spoke to Martin, he called the academy and arranged for him to be sent there.
Over the next few days, he and his parents—all of them in almost total shock—busied themselves with packing and moving. Martin arrived at Next Generation just after his thirteenth birthday, and has remained there for the past three years.
