Mark Faulkner (markrfaulkner) | 464 comments Hi,
I'm Mark and I write (mainly) horror. I have a small collection of short stories on Amazon at the minute called Slime and other stories.
I put these up while I'm deciding what to do with my debut novel and to try to get my name 'out there'. It will appear as free at some point but between you me and the gatepost the kindle file (and other formats) can currently be downloaded free here - http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/...

The novel, Flux, is complete and I'm rather pleased with it even if I do say so myself and feedback from test readers has been very positive. If anybody does want a preview by the way then I'd be happy to oblige.
Anyway, thats enough about me but if anyone wants to ask anything then go ahead.

Cheers
Mark

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Hi Mark, I'd be honoured to have a preview of Flux. I'm a bit of a horror genre fan. Let me know where I can get it.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments yuck i dont like bugs. is it ghosty scary horror or blood and guts horror?

message 6: by Mark (new) - added it

Mark Faulkner (markrfaulkner) | 464 comments Bit of both, I don't write all out gross out stuff. I mainly try to be a little creepy and there's even one or two childrens stories in there.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Flux excellent so far Mark.

Cornelius Harker | 830 comments Welcome to the forum, Mark. It's nice to have another horror author on board. Let's pool our resources and scare the wits out of everyone.

Good luck with your short stories and forthcoming novel.

Cornelius

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I finished the novel yesterday Mark and I'm very impressed with it as a first full length book. I shall write a review for Amazon now, while it's fresh in my mind so there'll be one waiting to go on there when you upload the book. Well done - I hope we can expect more of this quality.

I'd better have a look at the short stories too eh?

Mark Faulkner (markrfaulkner) | 464 comments I'd like to say a big thank you to Ignite for casting her keen eye over Flux.
I've just to put the few finishing touches to it before publishing (ie, writing a blurb which I don't find easy) and it should be available within the next week or so.
If anybody on here would like a free preview copy, with a mind to putting a review on Amazon when it's published, then please let me know. I'd be extremely grateful.
Mark

Mark Faulkner (markrfaulkner) | 464 comments Flux came out on kindle today, fingers crossed. Here's the blurb for any who are interested.
Thanks
Mark
Flux

Iain is looking forward to the weekend when a number nineteen bus shatters his body, but broken bones are the least of his worries.

In this disturbing yet darkly funny novel, Iain’s near death experience is not a vision of exquisite godliness with light at the end of a tunnel. Instead he experiences a place of darkness and heat, inhabited by foul creatures, the sounds of suffering and a beast.

During a long recovery Iain becomes plagued by nightmares and premonitions, shadowy apparitions, a magpie, and a vile old man. They all have a message, that something wants Iain and it won't give up easily.

Iain’s friends do their best to cheer him up in the best way they know how, until the unexpected events of one sunny afternoon mean that he is on his own, caught up in the age old battle of good versus evil.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments That blurb has hooked me. Thanks Mark!

Mark Faulkner (markrfaulkner) | 464 comments Brilliant, it was more difficult to write than the novel!!! (just didn't take quite so long)
Thanks

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I bet. I'm sure I could never write a good blurb, never mind a novel.

I do recognise a good one, though.

Mark Faulkner (markrfaulkner) | 464 comments wow, brilliant. Thank you

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I've put a review up for this book. I'm really impressed - for a first novel it's very assured. I hope some of our group will read it. The title 'horror' often puts people off but it's not a blood-fest it's deeply psychological, dealing with what's going on in a character's mind. It's horrific though!

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments Couldn't resist,bought it.

Mark Faulkner (markrfaulkner) | 464 comments It's started off quite well, not sold a vast amount but it did reach number nine in 'Horror' in kindle books, for a brief time!!!

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments Great news Mark.Started reading this morning and 20% in.Finding it really engaging and imaginative.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I hope the sales are picking up Mark? I keep telling everyone how good it is!

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments Finished Flux and really enjoyed it.Although not easily spooked I confess to skimming some pages as it was the wee sma' hours. The plot held my attention and I felt for poor Iain. The ending surprised me as I had actually thought the plot would take a very different turn.Would certainly read more of your work.

Thanks,
I appreciate that, I wasn't sure how people would take the ending. I'm making headway into the next one, but it'll be ery different.

I thought I'd try one of the free day's to see what effect it has. I should have waited but I'm an impatient soul.

Did you find that it was worth making it free? Did it help with chart positions or extra reviews?

:0)

message 33: by Mark (new) - added it

Mark Faulkner (markrfaulkner) | 464 comments Not yet, hoping it's a bit early to tell. Went to number 7 in horror (free) but when it came off offer plummeted back to the bottom of the heap (somewhere around the 32000 mark).
I think all it's done is maybe annoy the people who have bought it already :( I hope not though because I'd feel really bad.

message 34: by Kath (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I'm not annoyed. I'm hard to annoy!

Mark Faulkner (markrfaulkner) | 464 comments I had to laugh yesterday because for a while I was sandwiched between Stephen King and Clive Barker on the Kindle Horror bestsellers!

Mark Faulkner (markrfaulkner) | 464 comments Slime and Other Stories has finally gone free on Amazon.co.uk (it's been free in the US for a while). It is a small collection of ten very short stories which I tend to write to give my brain a break from novel writing.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Thanks Mark. I saw it was free this morning and posted the link in the freebie thread. :)

Mark Faulkner (markrfaulkner) | 464 comments Apologies if I don't seem very active on the forum at the minute. I'm trying to avoid the internet and its many ditractions for a while because I'm about a third of the way through drafting a new novel and am well into it.
I do still come and lurk in the background though.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Writing a new book is the only acceptable excuse. ;)

I hope it's going really well and we'll see both it and more of you soon!

message 48: by Kath (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I'm glad there's another book in the offing Mark. You are getting some good reviews for Flux.

Mark Faulkner (markrfaulkner) | 464 comments Better than I could have wished for really, I'nm very pleased with them.
The new project will take a while but I'm hoping to have it ready by the autumn.
