Makeda | 31 comments I tend to buy books at the Friends of the Library book sales. I find I can get a lot of book for a little money. I check out a lot of books from the library. I use to go to the library 2 to 3 times a week.(i live close to the both libraries in town) I recently got a library card for another library system. They have more libaries 5 as opposed to our 2. That means more choices. :) the last new book I got was Sweet Valley Confidential and that was because I didn't want to wait to check it out of the library.

Joanne (bonfiggi) I buy too many books, and I get them at thrift stores, especially Value Village when I visit Seattle. I like half.com too. I enjoy handing books on to friends and family.
It makes me happy to have a pile of unread books on the bedside table.

message 3: by Alondra (new)

Alondra Miller I get them mostly from bookstores now; but before I would haunt thrift stores, yard sales and this great Used bookstore chain in AZ (i forget the name). Since we have been in NC, the pickings have been slim; so I just stick with Booksamillion (they suck) and Barnes & Nobles (they dont suck).

message 4: by Renée (new)

Renée (maagtablet) I buy almost all my books online (amazon and bookdepository) Because I'm Dutch, but read English, the available books are very limited in the bookstores. One of the bookstores in my village doesnt even sell English books!

Louise | 280 comments Like Renée I get my English books from online stores (amazon.co.uk or .com) as I can't get the all the titles I want here.
I also go to flea markets in Summer, thrift shops, used book shops, library sales and regular bookshops if there's a new book I want.
I'm part of a bookclub with 5 other ladies, and we also exchange books sometimes :-)

I guess I usually get new books every week or every other week, :-)

Batsap | 117 comments I'm trying to cut back on my book buying at the moment, as I have so many unread books, but I generally get new ones at least once every couple of weeks. I buy ones that catch my interest at the used bookstore I work in, and any books I particularly want I will buy off of Amazon.

Karen M | 418 comments Since I downloaded the Kindle Ap onto my notebook I'm obsessed with downloading free books just about everyday! LOL

Angelic Lovestrong (angelicmaria) | 17 comments I've been buying books on half.com for 10 years. I used to hunt and hunt through the online stores for the best price, but very rarely could anyone beat half.com's prices. But lately I've been swapping books online and locally through here and Paperbackswap.com. I just joined ebookfling.com for electronic books, but I've not "flung" anything yet. I love the swapping feature here on Goodreads and with paperbackswap.com, but when I really want something and can't wait, I know the best place to get it is half.com. If I'm especially anxious, I have a couple of favorite local independent bookstores that I go to for "therapy". I also have books stacked all over my house, so I very rarely feel justified in buying a book brand new from a book store. One of my favorite things to do when we travel is to find a local independent book store and buy atleast one book. Kind of like a souvenir. I try to buy a "keeper" or a book-related accessory; bookmark, book cover, etc.

message 9: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly I try to get books from the sale cart at the library more than going ang buying other used books because it helps the library and I buy something new at least 3 times a month.

message 10: by Chris (new)

Chris I buy 99% of my books from Amazon or it's sellers, and I buy books way too often, at least a few times a month. I'm trying to drastically cut down since I own over 200 unread books, but I bought a few more a couple days ago

message 11: by Joanne (new)

Joanne (bonfiggi) I like half.com. I usually pay 75 cents plus shipping, for a book.

Thom Swennes (Yorrick) | 592 comments I can’t put a time or amount where books are concerned. I know that I will continue to buy them but I never stick to any given schedule. As most of my book buying is secondhand, I accept pot-luck and buy whatever strikes my fancy. Logically this ad hoc approach has its drawbacks, I sometimes buy real losers but every once in awhile I may also find a diamond in the rough. My library can certainly be called diverse as I have a little of everything. Ever so often I become inspired by a book. Then my buying tactics undergo a metamorphosis and I look for a particular title or author; I’m a very loyal reader if a writer inspires me. Inevitably, however, I return to my loose approach in acquiring new books.

I think I have 700+ unread books lol. I wish I stopped when I was at 200 unread books.

message 14: by Chris (new)

Chris | 12 comments I buy weekly, usually at Amazon or Barnes. Going to Barnes tomorrow to pick up a couple new books.

Well I'm only 23 so my racking up 200+ unread books so far is quite a big collection to me. Most people my age spend a lot of money on alcohol; I spend it on books instead lol

Rebecca (rdflippen) | 20 comments I have a new tablet, and was given gift cards from Amazon for my bday, so i'm like a lot of you ^ there who are taking advantage of either free or low priced book downloads. I am reading American Gods on my tablet (great book, btw). In print books, i've scaled back (and especially so since the marvelous book store located across the street from my office closed). I do buy some at every Friends of the Library sale, as well as new ones from other sources. So, right now i'm averaging maybe 2-3 new print book buys per month. Yes, i have a lot of books stacked to be read, but they will be read!

Beth | 7 comments Half-Price Books! There's one close to where I go to school, so I can stop in frequently (way too frequently!). I was just there yesterday and bought four books. Amazon is good as well, but there is something about the instant gratification of going to an actual book store, as well as the interesting and random books you find there which you may never have thought to look for online. However, I also like to read books online, at sites like Project Gutenburg (www.gutenberg.org) and the Internet Sacred Texts Archive(www.sacred-texts.com). The sacred texts archive has a really good selection of english and celtic folklore, as well as folklore from around the world.

message 18: by Jay (new)

Jay I buy frequently, at least a couple times a month. That may not sound like much but.... I bought 16 today at the friends of the library bookstore, and I think it was 8 (or 10) two weeks ago. In early September I ordered 16 from Barnes and Noble (online clearance).

Most of mine come from those 2 sources, though I order from other online sources to fill out my author collections.

Mary (madamefifi) I'm all-Amazon, all the time, especially now that I have a Kindle. I live in a WiFi-free area, sadly, so my ebook buying is confined to the 3 days a week I'm working. I've been buying books like crazy, though--hard to beat those Kindle prices, and the immediate gratification of clicking "Buy Now" and having the book pop up on my Kindle seconds later is hard to beat! I still buy hardcopy books, as well, though, since not everything I want to read is available as an ebook. I limitt my hardcopy buying to about once a month these days.

message 20: by Maggie (new)

Maggie I buy some on line using Booko.com as a resource. I also browse charity shops for second hand books, the library sales and a couple of really good Book Exchanges.

message 21: by Ellen (new)

Ellen (elliearcher) Too often-especially with my Kindle & the temptation of 1-click shopping and instant delivery!

Maggie the Muskoka Library Mouse (mcurry1990) Whenever I pass a bookstore, I have to go in. It's rare that I leave without at least one book. :)

message 23: by Thom (new)

Thom Swennes (Yorrick) | 592 comments I'm with Margaret, my eyes hone in on books and I can never say no. My library at home is filled and is rapidly overflowing to other parts of the house.
