Nycamazon | 8 comments I recall reading a book about a family that was similar to the "Addams Family" as a child. The family had a son and daughter. They had a pet Dragon living in the backyard who could become invisible. I think the family's name was Brown. Any help would be appreciated I think my nieces would love these books.

Erika (escilas) | 43 comments Might it be this book? From the Dust Returned

Description from Wikipedia: The novel is largely comprised from a series of short stories which Bradbury had written decades earlier, centering around a family of Illinois-based ghosts named the Elliotts.

The Elliotts bear a strong resemblance to Addams' own Addams Family characters, and Bradbury had once discussed collaborating with Addams on an Elliott Family history, although that project never came to fruition.

I can't recall a dragon being in it, but I read the book a long ago, so who knows. Good luck, hope you find it! :)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 1396 comments Shouldn't this have originally been in the UNSOLVED folder? I'm leaving it where it is so it can be found again.

But, if you're looking for a specific book, the thread should go in the UNSOLVED folder.

Thanks.

Ericka, thank you for the quick response. I'm afraid that isn't it though. The "Brown family " books are young readers books. Sorry forgot to mention that. I read them sometime in the early 80's. But From the dust returned definately sounds like one I would be interested in reading now so I ordered it in ebook. Thanks again

Jessica (jessdaygeorge) | 191 comments C. S. Forester (of Horatio Hornblower fame) wrote one children's book, for his son, called POO-POO AND THE DRAGONS. The family's name is Brown, the little boy is named Poo-Poo Harold Heavyside Brown, and they call the dragon Horatio Heavyside Dragon. He lives in their backyard, but otherwise they are a normal family . . . might you be confusing this book with another? The book was published in the 1930's, but I read it myself in the 1980's, though it is sadly out of print now.

Jessica, thanks but one of the things that drew me to the book is the fact that they were so much like the Addams Family. Back then I had an addiction to everything Addams. BTW I just remembered the daughter was a witch. Can't remember what the son was though. I don't remember much about the dragon except they pointed out he was invisible so the normals wouldn't see him.

Jessica (jessdaygeorge) | 191 comments Okay, so now I totally want to know what this book was . . . it sounds awesome!

Casey (caseyd29) | 2 comments I can't think of the name of this book either! I definitely remember reading it and thoroughly enjoying it and also comparing it to the Addams family. Didn't the family also keep one of their family members in a cooler? I distinctly remember something of that nature...

Casey (caseyd29) | 2 comments I found the one I was looking for! The one I was trying to find was "Pure Dead Magic." Was the one you were looking for the same possibly? If it isn't, sorry. I can't be of any more help.

Thank you. I just looked at the posting for the book but that wasn't it either.

Nycamazon | 8 comments I hope everyone has had a wonderful holiday. I thought I would update the information. The book is a young readers book about a family called the Browns (They are very similar to the Adams' Family). The Daughter was a witch and the Brother was a werewolf. The family had a pet dragon in the yard who was invisible. Little by little I'm remembering more and more about this book. Hopefully someone will remember the name.

Dylan (dyarch) | 138 comments Well the details are a little muddled, but I suspect you're looking for Samantha Slade: Monster-Sitter by Susan Smith.

There's not a lot of information on Goodreads but here's an article about the series:

Reyna Martinez | 2 comments The Munsters

"Despite superficial similarities of horror-movie characters incongruent with their communities and a generally gothic look, this and Addams Family were different in the style of series and characterization. Overall, the characters of The Addams Family were wealthy eccentrics with a gothic look who generally stayed at home, while the Munsters were a blue-collar and generally outgoing family of legendary monsters."

OMG!!! I want it sooo much! Some book like The Addams family, The Hogben Chronicles....

Nycamazon | 8 comments I’m afraid I was locked out of Goodreads as I deployed to Iraq and broke my computer. LOL I’m afraid I never did find the name of this series.

Julia | 69 comments I *doubt* this was it, but your post reminds me of the movie Dark Shadows.

Nycamazon | 8 comments Back then I rarely watched movies and read six books a week. Thank you though. I just ordered the book mentioned above “Samantha Slade: Monster sitter” just to verify that it wasn’t the one. I may be wrong. I’m still more a reader than a movie goer.

Ayshe | 4721 comments Samantha Slade's third book: Our Friend: Public Nuisance #1 appears to have temporarily invisible pet monster.

Nycamazon | 8 comments I was able to purchase and read the first 3 books of this series. I believe the “Samantha Slade” series is exactly what I’ve been searching all this time. Sadly the author only wrote 4 books for this series. To everyone who helped in my search Thank You!
