Life of Pi
question
Why did Pi take part in 3 religions? What is the difference between Faith and Belief?
I think for the most part, being able to participate in three different religions gave Pi the flexibility to choose the good and convenient aspects from each. This in turn allowed him to practice a sort of a utopian religion where his curiosity could be satisfied and the idea of God wasn't restricted by any single religion.
I think it was that he was a curious seeker, and wanted to find out who God was. He found out God was people, and he enjoyed being in the company of people who were, most of all, looking to be around honest people sharing in their love of life.
Faith persists despite facts to the contrary, belief can be negotiated.

If I may add a little:
1) What is the difference between Faith and Belief?
Faith accepts an experience of God.
Belief codifies an understanding/concept of God.
2) Why did Pi take part in 3 religions?
Pi's experience of God does not depend on any religion, and thus he is open to the understandings/concepts of God in Hinduism, Muslim, and Christianity.

The 3 religions each offered him something the other two lacked, and together he had his full personal religious needs met.
Pi's main goal is to love God, and in order to do it he though on trying to understanding him, meaning to knowing and understanding the different ways (religions).
Belief is understanding
Faith is accepting
Both of them are related on things which are not tangible.
