Sharon Michael Not a recently published book, remember reading it at least 30 years ago and have absolutely no clue as to author or title.

Fantasy, set in a desert country. Male protagonist is an arrogant, spoiled desert chief/ chief's son/ prince who sees a girl he wants and decides to abduct her. (or rape her?)

Her father turns out to be a magician and the potential rapist finds himself turned into a horse, who belongs to the girl.

Balance of the story deals with desert warfare and how the "prince" works his way through his arrogance and gets back to being a person again.

Kerry (rocalisa) This could be A Wind in Cairo by Judith Tarr. It certainly has an arrogant prince turned into a horse.

Sharon Michael Really sounds like the one I remember. There's a copy on PaperBackSwap, have requested it and will keep fingers crossed.

Yes. Received the book and it is the one I was looking for.

I'm not sure how to move this to solved so would appreciate it if someone could.

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 1396 comments I'll move it and shelve it, Sharon. Thanks.

Sharon Michael Thanks ... and many thanks to Kerry, who identified it for me. I'm about halfway through it and though I hadn't read it for years, it is still going to be one of my favorites!
