Carol, I’m SUPER excited about the Kindle being connected to libraries. My library system is onboard, but the information is so weird on how to get everything set up. I brought my kindle in with me to work today so I could fiddle with it during my lunch hour, but alas, a meeting just got scheduled, so I’ll have to postpone to this weekend. I’m predicting some hiccups, and a 14-day lending period is really tight for me, as my schedule is very, very full! But I love reading via Kindle, and I hate playing the holds queue game at the library. They’re now starting hold fines, if you don’t pick up your held books within a certain time period. Eeek! My library is open between 10 and 5 on weekdays, and closed on Sundays! This girl can’t get to the library very often! So, not having to physically GO to the library will be a HUGE help for me, I think. I’m so glad Kindle finally copied the Nook on this.
Ashley, if you have any luck in learning how to do it, could you fire us a note or me an email. I'm not finding it in my library here yet, thought I might take my kindle to the library and see if they could help, but I need to learn how. Got also wondering if we would need to use something like Calibre to download and then load with our USB ports. HMMM. I'll stay tuned.
Emily, from what I understand, yes, it goes through Overdrive. I haven't had a chance to sit down be idiotic with trying to figure it out yet. The library issue was my biggest regret with the Kindle, but old-fashion moi preferred the bookish screen to Nook's.
Howdy folks, I took my Kindle and went over to a Library today to get a lesson on Kindle downloads. Things to know: Determine the generation of Kindle you have. Mine is second (where I paid $258.00), and so forth. This version is not Wi-fi, so I will need to download with my charging cord/USB. He showed me how to basically do it, and there are also two weekly classes on electronics which I think is a great idea. He didn't have a lot of time to spend with me, so we tried 2-3 books on my list that weren't there, so you may be disappointed if you have specific books you are looking/hoping for. Suggestions: take your charging cord with you just in case, Don't set too high of expectations as to what you want to read. I think its going to take a long time to get them set up. If you are willing to wing it you will be fine I'm sure. I think it was Ashley that was complaining about the 14 days. Guess what, ours here is 10 days. That is so short--I guess we can't read anything else while reading that too. I'm just starting Cheryl's book, so I think I'll get most of that read, then try one of the library downloads. Most likely your library might have a class or a smart person that can give you the basics. It was either Emily or Ashley that mentioned Overdrive, and I'm pretty sure you are right on that. Good luck all.
