I am compliling a list of personal favorites that I have read this year. What are a few of yours?

Library Lady 📚 | 12 comments Speak and Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson were both really good. I also read Shutter Island and liked it a lot even though i'd seen the movie so the ending was kind of spoiled for me. Anyway, I don't think I've read anything this year that just took my breath away... It's getting harder to find books like that as I get pickier all the time, lol.

I havent heard of Speak but i just looked at it and it looks good. I have also heard good things about Wintergirls. I wanted to watch Shutter Island but havent, is it scary?? Maybe i will pick up the book instead of the movie. Thanks for adding your favs! And i agree it is getting harder and harder to find books that really grab me. Why do u think that is?

Library Lady 📚 | 12 comments I think maybe as I read more, I get more picky? IDK... or maybe I just read more, so I dont spend so much time choosing a book I think I'll love. I just looked back at all my books this year...even the ones I gave 5 stars weren't books I'll remember forever (Bridget Jones's Diary for example--made me LOL about 20 times, but it's not in my 'swoon' list). It's kind of sad how many books I've read and how few I gave 5 stars to!

Speak is a great read for adults and YA. If you have kids, boy or girl, I'd try to get them to read this. It has some hard themes, but the author is very tasteful when dealing with tough issues. Some other YA authors venture a little too far for me to give them to kids, but not LHA. Also, it's on the banned books list, and this is Banned books week, so... :D

Ahh the banned books list. I haven't actaully looked at that list but i am curious....

I think my top 3 for this year might be:

1. Masquerade. (yeah, I wrote it and it doesn't come out til Dec. but of course Im gonna list it. LOL)

2. Unearthly by Cynthia Hand. I loved it.

3. Nightshade

My top 2 Indie books i have read this year are:

1. Dirty Blood
2. Legacies of Talimura: War of the Witch

Library Lady 📚 | 12 comments Well the last week of September is Banned Book Week!
I'm going to read The Awakening by Kate Chopin--going classic this year. Usually I read a banned YA book.

Cambria--I didnt want to list my OWN book, lol...figured that was cheating! But go for it...too bad the rest of us can't read your book yet...

Lol. Its not cheating but i guess it is self promotion. Lol. I cant wait for my to b available to everyone!! Although it is a YA paranormal, so it might not b your thing. But i welcome u to read it! Plus, i have a short story coming out as an Ebook as a teaser to Masquerade so u can check that out to get a feel for the story. Its called Before. I dont have a pub date on that yet but im hoping it will b soon!

Library Lady 📚 | 12 comments Are you self-publishing or doing it through an agency/publishing house?

Dale Ibitz (goodreadscomdale_ibitz) It's hard to pick a top 3. Probably:

Hunger Games
Beautiful Demons
Haunted

Dale-
Can you believe I have not read Hunger Games yet? I know its a crime. I have heard good things about all three of your picks! :)

message 14: by Dale (new)

Dale Ibitz (goodreadscomdale_ibitz) I only recently read Hunger Games...like last month. I've always been a late bloomer, late to the party, etc. LOL

So Books a million is going out of business and today was the last day for them to be open and I went in a got a few books for a steal here's what i got:

Vampire Beach - Bloodlust and Initiation (Vampire Beach) by Alex Dubal
Slayed by Amanda Marrone
The Book of Spells (Private #0.5) by Kate Brian Elixir (Elixir, #1) by Hilary Duff (in hardback)

And each one was 3.00$
Some of them weren't on my TBR pile but I had heard of them and they are YA paranormal which is my fav. I figured for 3$ why not?
For some reason I am excited to read Vampire Beach. LOL

Dale Ibitz (goodreadscomdale_ibitz) That's how I got Haunted, when our Borders here went out of biz and I got it dirt cheap. I also got The Furnace sequel, which I haven't read but my son loved.

i hate to see all these book stores going down but the sales are nice. LOL.

message 18: by Dale (new)

Dale Ibitz (goodreadscomdale_ibitz) Absolutely! I really hated seeing our Borders go. I did all my book shopping there.

I know! A lot of people loved borders. Im a BN girl myself but i like all bookstores. I guess the changes in publishing and the Ebook wave have really hit bookstores hard.

message 20: by Dale (new)

Dale Ibitz (goodreadscomdale_ibitz) Yup. I now go to B&N when I'm in need of a hard copy...there's one near me...it's just that Borders was there first! No other valid reason for my patronage choice. :)
