A "buddy read" is when one or more persons agree to read a book with you. I have been in a several now and they are fun. There are really no set rules, everyone just comes to an agreement on the terms. Sometimes this happens a month or two after a book was the groups' BOM, but people missed out (and the thread archived). Or maybe a book didn't get enough votes for BOM.

I have been in one with just one person, and we agreed to read a certain number of chapters a day. In another there were 15 (I think) of us and we tried to read at a certain speed, but some read ahead and some fell behind. It is all good, as this is suppose to be fun! It takes a little work/communication to make sure everyone has their copy of the book ready.

You can certainly PM each other, but I think it is more convenient - and fun - to set up a folder/thread where you can post comments. (In most groups, a new folder has to be set up by a group monitor.)

In my one-on-one with my friend Sans, we traded off posting questions each day to one another. Here is the link to that one: Poison Study With Sans. As you can, see a couple people popped in (the monitor always does) and one asked to be a third member for a book we read in June.

In the larger group (where some were ahead/some behind/some already read the book), we promised to not devulge any spoilers until certain set dates. Here is the link to that one: Across A Moonlit Sea-Buddy Read. There you will see the author actually agreed to do a Q&A.

Other "buddy reads" elect to do not questions at all and people just post their comments. A lot of people like to make predictions about what they think will happen.

But each "buddy read" is different, with its own personality, as you will find when you dive into the fun.

Hope this helps; LMK if you have more questions. ☺
