Mansi (DevilRebel62) I've read it!
And I loved it! Haha!
I loved this so much. It was really got me into YA in the first place. Mr. Quirk you have have have HAVE to read this!

message 3: by [deleted user] (new)

With a glowing recommendation like that, how could I not? Think I'll head over to the book store now...

I read it for the neverending quiz and its OK. The idea is barbaric like the Roman games. I read the first two of them but decided not to read the third one. You will probably like it as tons of action. She is very accomplished with the bow and arrow if I remember right and I did like that but I identify more with Bella Swan.

I am curious, how did you chose the name Catch? Is it your favorite name?

After you read The Hunger Games you will be able to do at least 100 neverending quiz questions for that book.

Catch
The Hunger Games

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

lol, that's true. As for Catch ... that was just his name, I didn't really come up with it, it was decided already. It's difficult to explain : )

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh, now I am burning with curiosity! He must be based on a real person. I think of that line: Be careful or I'll put you in my novel. My hubby is always saying he is going to put our niece in his novel.

Now my imagination will be working overtime.

message 7: by [deleted user] (last edited Sep 19, 2011 08:51PM) (new)

It is loosely based on a real person... : ))

Ah, that makes sense. Now he is even more interesting. Thanks for letting me know.

Andrew Henry Sean wrote: "I keep hearing about this one. Is it any good?"

I read half the book and didn't like it thats my opioion

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

I wasn't really a big fan of the first half either. It took 150 pages to get picked, ride a train, then start the games. After that it got a lot better.

Haha glad to be some assistance! :)

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes you were, thanks! I'll definitely be reading the series now.

Send me some if you find any I haven't done, thanks.

Meagan | 8 comments I really enjoyed The Hunger Games series. I didn't think I would at all and I avoided the series for the longest time because thinking about reading about kids fighting to the death on national tv seemed extremely barbaric and not like something I would enjoy at all. If I remember correctly I ended up reading it because I read somewhere that Stephanie Meyer was reading them and really enjoyed them. Once I picked them up, I couldn't put them down and have now read the entire series 3 times. I think you will really enjoy them.

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

I definitely enjoyed the first. I'm looking forward to reading the others in the series. 3 times ... wow! I'm looking forward to the movie too. I hope they do it justice.

I didn't know Woody Harrelson was in The Hunger Games! I love him!

Sarah (sarealist) wow I hear nothing but good things about this series, I will have to read it. I bought the first book and read about 60 pages, then put it down to read something else. It just seemed like it wasn't going anywhere, but I guess I didn't give it a chance!

message 24: by [deleted user] (new)

Hey Sarah, I felt EXACTLY like that too. Actually the first 150 pages are like that. But it does get better after that.

I am too. Just hope they do the books justice!

Have you seen the trailer? So far so good....

Mansi (DevilRebel62) I know, eh? It's going to be SOOO EPIC!! :D :D :D

Today at the library I was telling the new librarian I hope to see Breaking Dawn soon and she told me she is waiting for The Hunger Games. She called me around to watch the trailer and we both cried. Its too sad seeing all those young people dying but the heroine does seem to be perfect for her part.

I prefer movies that don't make me cry. When is One for the Money coming out? Its too funny or at least the book is. One for the Money

I cried so much at the movie Breaking Dawn that I made myself sick.

I'm just worried about how much longer it'll be until that sort of thing becomes a reality? I mean, we aren't really all that far removed from the Roman gladiator days are we?

message 31: by [deleted user] (new)

Chels wrote: "How come? I read the book, it had a happy ending."

If you see it you will note that Hollywood did an incredible job on her make-up so that she looked like a concentration camp victim (per my husband) and its unbearable. A friend warned me. Let me know what you think?

message 32: by [deleted user] (new)

I still haven't seen the new movie. Haven't had time. Hope it's good.

Ian (magicboyd5) I cant wait for the Hunger Games movie to come out!!!

Racheal Renwick (racheal_renwick) | 59 comments I loved the trailer. I think they did a wonderful job. I think this movie will actually be a lot closer to the book, than some others.

Ian (magicboyd5) I hate it when the movie is like really different then the book!

Racheal Renwick (racheal_renwick) | 59 comments Ian wrote: "I hate it when the movie is like really different then the book!"

I agree. I understand the fact that they may have to change it to fit into a movie form, but, sometimes they take it too far.

I like the trailer for the movie, but it already seems different than the book. It isn't at all what I thought it would be like.

I hate it when they change things too much, too. If it were my book...I'd be so upset if they changed too much. This is why I'm writing my own script. :)

Yeah, I would be really frustrated as well! But, I didn't notice too many changes in the trailer. Could you point some out? I thought it looked almost identical. either way, I'm excited for the release. I still need to read the next two books.

message 39: by [deleted user] (new)

I need to read the next 2 books as well. I'm curious where it goes from here.

Movie trailer seems pretty good...

Yeah, me too. I would be reading it now, but I have your book, both my friend's books and another random book I am reading right now. LOL But, then, then I will.

message 41: by [deleted user] (new)

That's a lot of books at once lol. I'll do 2 at the most (at a time). I don't think there's enough room in my brain for 4!

Racheal Renwick (racheal_renwick) | 59 comments Sean wrote: "That's a lot of books at once lol. I'll do 2 at the most (at a time). I don't think there's enough room in my brain for 4!"

Someone just said that to me like an hour ago, weird. Haha. I didn't think I would be able to follow along to be honest, but so far I haven't gotten confused! It takes a lot longer to read them all, but it's worth it! I am hoping to finish my friend Lisette's book before our meeting this weekend in Pasedena. I wanted to talk to her about it.

message 43: by [deleted user] (new)

But I'll know something's up if in your review of my book you talk about how much you loved it when Molly was in the Keys attending her sister's wedding and went on an undersea carriage ride right after the ceremony! lol...

Oh so you you know Molly huh? LMAO. I really hope that doesn't happen. But, I think I'll be okay. Molly can stay on dry land, and Augie can stay with Mira under the sea. And all of Rachel Thompson's snarkiness toward men, can stay in her book. As for futuristic rebellion and love, I will keep that in Ally Condie's book too.

message 45: by [deleted user] (new)

Snarkiness toward men? Is there such a thing? I mean, we are, after all, wondrous wonders of creation filled with nought but good intentions and chivalrous hearts!

Right? : )

You are absolutely right!....about the rare few who are like that. Haha. She's very funny, men even enjoy the books. She just points out stuff men do, and calls it the MANCODE.

message 47: by [deleted user] (new)

Unfortunately it is a rare few. I'm going to have to give it a look.

Racheal Renwick (racheal_renwick) | 59 comments Sean wrote: "Unfortunately it is a rare few. I'm going to have to give it a look."

Well, there's a lot of talk about hair, ball scratching, poop, and snot. LOL It's interesting.

That sounds about right ...

Ha! :)

As far as the trailer, hmmm...The biggest things I can point out are mainly things that weren't how I pictured them to be. Katniss seems too brave from the get-go, where in the book she didn't seem as strong to me. The props, etc. all look pretty normal, I think. I was picturing something more outlandish, maybe a little bit more dark. That, and I noticed they took the cornucopia out, which I find strange.

Most of it is just my opinion, accept for that last thing, which might be in the movie, but not in the trailer. All in all, it still looks good, but not like how I pictured it.
