Katja Millay (katjamillay) | 9 comments Hi. Could I please ask to have a quote removed from the quote page for my book? A reader posted the entire ending of the book which spoils the whole mystery of the story and does a disservice for other readers who haven't read it. I really appreciate it. Thank you so much!

Valeria (onmelancholy) Can somebody please delete this quote? I added it but I wasn't aware that it has already been quoted countless times, I'm sorry.

Thanks in advance!

#683, I don't see any other copies of that quote. I have left it.

It was already quoted in English, but I put the Italian translation of it... Anyway if you think that it shouldn't be deleted then it's ok!

None of these books look like they were written by the founder of the Terrytoons animation studio

Banjomike | 5166 comments That probably explains why the original Paul Terry entry became a NAB. The one I added to the quote back in #636 was author 6564511. He has gone, combined into NOT A BOOK. Search for Terry on this page.

http://www.goodreads.com/author/edits...

That was my original disambiguation of the Paul Terry record. I've remade a Paul^^^Terry page and I'll re-up the Mighty Mouse books.

Abigail (handmaiden) | 85 comments *Need a Super for this.*

So, I finally bit the bullet and became a librarian. I merged several versions of this quote from Nicholas Sparks' A Walk to Remember http://www.goodreads.com/quotes/15902... but this remaining version has too many likes for me to finish up.

Normally, a Bible quote should be attributed to Anonymous, but I believe this is an exception. I couldn't find this form/phrasing of the Corinthians quote in any translation in any online Bible search tool (checked several), and from what I could see online of the front matter of A Walk to Remember (and I think there was enough to draw a conclusion) there was no copyright acknowledgement to any Bible publisher (modern Bible translations are almost always copyrighted). Which leads me to conclude that Sparks did not quote any published translation, but rather wrote his own paraphrase. So it seems logical to leave the quote on his page, but note what it's a paraphrase of (unless there is a librarian rule I overlooked or anyone has a better idea?).

1) Typos need correcting. This is the accurate version:

"Love is always patient and kind. It is never jealous. Love is never boastful or conceited. It is never rude or selfish. It does not take offense and is not resentful. Love takes no pleasure in other people's sins, but delights in the truth. It is always ready to excuse, to trust, to hope, and to endure whatever comes." (source)

2) Add this to the end: [paraphrase of I Corinthians 13:4-7]

message 667: by Mark (new)

Mark Burns (TheFailedPhilosopher) | 29 comments If you do that one you need to put an accurate account of the edition and translation that is being used in order to claim that it is the correct version as quoted.

message 668: by Banjomike (new)

Banjomike | 5166 comments #692 693
I've corrected the text. The quote is only loosely based on Corinthians. Adding a footnote to say that a quote is a vague paraphrase of a phrase that already exists in umpteen different forms in multiple versions of the Bible seems pointless.

New International Version
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud

King James version
Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up

...
if you feel strongly about it then I, or someone else, can add the note.

Since that chapter is popular and widely variant, I have created a tag for it, and tagged what quotes I could readily identify (moving a few from bogus authors to the correct Bible editions in the process, though there's one outstanding nakedly attributed to Anonymous).

The error is with the word "that" - it should read "than".

One missing word, and missing italics that make the convo harder to follow.

"Don't do that again, he growled in my mind.
Smiling, I thought. You have to admit it was cool.

Banjomike | 5166 comments Marie wrote: "Can a quote be attributed to two authors? Good Omens was co-written by Terry Pratchett AND Neil Gaiman, but one quote from the book is here twice, attributed once to each:"

Normally, no. Usually a quote would be given to the first name on the cover but in this case that wouldn't work since the book is available with either Terry or Neil as the first name. If we combine them then the removed version is likely to be back quite soon.

I would leave them unless anyone has a better idea.

Emily | 5 comments I just added a quote from The Shoemaker's Wife and saved it, and now it looks like the author's name is Trigiani Adriana instead of Adriana Trigiani (no wonder The Shoemaker's Wife didn't show up for the book options). I tried to edit it so it doesn't look so dumb, but it says only goodreads librarians can do that. Can anyone help?
