Deleted. Unless an anonymous quote is associated with a specific book, it fails the notability test -- by definition.

Well that's good.

Last time I had an issue with spam quotes, I was told I could report them either in this group or by emailing support. It's just easier/personal preference for me to post here, but if I need to email support I can.

Please, can a super check the attribution for this quote:
http://www.goodreads.com/quotes/5504-...
According to Wikiquote:

it seems to be a misattribution.

I looked at this one a while ago. There is no source for da Vinci having said it. He would have said it in 500 year-old Italian rather than gramatically perfect English but there are no obvious alternative people. The nearest seemed to be Henry Van Dyke and even he didn't seem to have written it down anywhere.

This about sums it up:
When once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return."

— This must be the most famous aviation quote that is not a verifiable quote. It is attributed everywhere (including some Smithsonian publications and the Washington Post newspaper) to Leonardo da Vinci, but I've never found definitive source information. Neither did some nice folks I talked with at National Geographic Magazine, who contacted one of the world's leading Leonardo authorities in Italy as part of a long research process and were told that Leonardo da Vinci did not write it.

Greetings Banjomike :)

I just spent 10 min on google looking for the proper source of this quote and have to conclude that it's been erroneously attributed to LdV through a novel (The Storms of Windhaven) which I haven't been able to find, which itself was supposedly taken from a movie / documentary that one (or more) of the authors may have seen prior to writing said novel ... *grrrr*--source Wikiquote

It seems to have become a grand social meme as their are literally hundred of personal blogs that use this quote and attribute it to LdV.

EDIT: I just noticed that Luisa had already sourced the Wikiquote site ... lol.

I'm reluctant to do "the deed" of deleting though ... Super?

Banjomike | 5166 comments C-Cose wrote: "I'm reluctant to do "the deed" of deleting though ... Super? "

The big problem with deleting or reattributing these 'famous' quotes is that unless we have bombproof reasons, preferably including photographic evidence and interviews with nobel prize winning experts, SOMEONE will always add the quote back. Usually a dozen someones so we just create more work and it becomes a pain in the bum.

The Marilyn Monroe quote is like that. "I'm selfish, impatient and a little insecure. I make mistakes...". There isn't a particle of evidence that she ever said it. Sixty five thousand people on Goodreads are sure she did. I'm sure she didn't. Can't prove it.

Without proof...

I had posted four quotes from my book "Myriad," however one of them was deleted. I'm not sure if I did something wrong, but I'm reluctant to put it back in case I did. Is there any way to find out why the quote was deleted? Here is the link to the other quotes I have posted from my own writing:

http://www.goodreads.com/author/quote...

There are three, and I'd just like to add one more. Any help would be great. From what I recall it was a few lines, with two characters talking to each other. Maybe it was too long - I don't know.

Thanks, Mona

Just add the missing one. Make sure it has the correct attribution. If you name does not show as a link then it can get deleted.
