I also bought "My Name is Red" so that is on deck for one of my next books.

Mr. Shah's father immigrated to England during the Russian wars so his children were reared in nice clean suburban London. He could not take the family to Afghanistan for holidays so resorted to trips to Africa trying to replicate for his kids his own life as a child. The result is Mr. Shah has a unique knowledge of Africa, all about. He has written 10 books and I hope to read all. Next is Searching for King Solomon's Mines set in Ethiopia, my favorite African country.
The Caliph's House: A Year in Casablanca

I'm starting today The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd.

I know... this is the not-funny part of the story. But Evenly Ryan is now in my top 10 moms of all times!

I really enjoyed [bookcover:The Reason I Jump: The Inner Voice of a Thirteen-Year-Old Boy with Autism|16113737]

I loved this book.

I'm starting now The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman.

Now I'm resuming The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd.

After a long intro the info is pretty good

I don't know if you are a fantasy reader Hattie, but I'm not, though I enjoyed The Ocean at the End of the Lane.
I'm liking The Secret Life of Bees. So far so good.

Then The Ocean at the End of the Lane could be a good one to try. It worked for me. :)

I want to read that one too - it is a pulitzer
Finished and I liked the character development but thought it was kind of boring.

Now starting The End of Your Life Book Club by Will Schwalbe.

I loved this one Ari!
Just finished The End of Your Life Book Club by Will Schwalbe. I really wanted to enjoy it, but unfortunately I didn't.
Now startingMrs. Lincoln's Dressmaker by Jennifer Chiaverini.

I believe I love it as well, it is a very enjoyable read. I read The Kite Runner by the same author and just couldn't put it down, read it straight through.

And The Mountains Echoed (last Hosseini's book) is great. It's my favorite of the three. It's a little different since it's not a long story, but a chain of stories. It so well written!

Currently, I'm reading...
The Joke by Milan Kundera (Czech Republic)
The Lunatic by Anthony C. Winkler (Jamaica)

Very good. Excellent narration

Islands are doing it for me so far this year."
I think I want to read this too.

I'm now reading The Red Tent by Anita Diamant for my book club.

Interesting how different we all are. I think that's what makes the world go round. I read Mrs. Lincoln's Dressmaker a while back and besides the character development, it was the historic part I also quite liked.

I am currently on page 123 of The Orenda byJoseph Boyden. I put it aside for a bit and am picking it up again. I like it and I don't like it. Not sure why. Partly because I think the language seems rather stereotyped when the natives speak English (not their first language) but the writing is excellent and there have been many very positive reviews so I plan to keep reading and finish the book. It's a 500 page book and I have found with other books e.g. Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghesethe beginning was rather slow but the more I read....the more I liked it. In fact it ended up being one of my favourite books.

Go for it :) His writing is beautiful (reminds me of some of the Russian greats) and 50 pages in, I am hooked on this book.
