It is for another book group for GoodReads 2012 winners and nominees.
It is not going to be one of my favorite books ever that is for sure, but I am enjoying it. Probably will finish by Sunday. My favorite books last year were A Song of Ice and Fire A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin , The Millennium Trilogy The Millennium Trilogy by Stieg Larsson , and A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini . I also just finished Les Miserables and it is the best book I have ever read.

Michael (micky74007) Gabriela wrote: "I'm almost finishing (at page 350 of 416) the third book in the Isaac Bell's saga, The spie, written by Clive Cussler"

Have you read any of his other series?
NUMA files with Dirk Pitt (his original character)
NUMA files with Kurt Austin (second generation)
Oregaon Files with Juan Cabrillo (my personal favoite)
I liked the Isaac Bell series.
Cussler also has a one or two more series going, but I've not read any of them.
I've noticed that any book co-authored with his son Dirk Cussler is an inferior read compared to any of his other co-writers. His son does not have his father's talent.

Sarah | 662 comments Started The Kitchen House by Kathleen Grissom . It is soooo good so far. I had to start one of my group reads early because I have 7 group reads in June. But I wish I had waited on this one. This is going to be a good group read that hopefully will generate a lot of discussion, and I want to discuss now as I read. Also gonna read We Need to Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver , Quiet The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking by Susan Cain , The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman Let's Pretend This Never Happened A Mostly True Memoir by Jenny Lawson Life After Life by Kate Atkinson and either And the Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini or The Orphan Master's Son by Adam Johnson

Sarah - are you still enjoying it??

message 539: by Sarah (last edited May 25, 2013 07:56PM) (new)

Sarah | 662 comments Just started The Orchardist by Amanda Coplin . Trying to squeeze it in before June. Just finished The Kitchen House by Kathleen Grissom . YES JENNIFER - I loved this book - it is my favorite read this year aside from Les Misérables by Victor Hugo . It is intense and heartwarming, more tragic though but the times were harsh. The author did her research. I found myself completely invested in the characters and completely frustrated at times due to the secrets and miscommunication that lead to disastrous events, but it really kept the pages turning. 5 stars.

message 540: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 662 comments I should be trying to finish Cleopatra A Life by Stacy Schiff and/or Great Expectations by Charles Dickens but I find them both so boring. I can only do a little at a time in between more engrossing reads. I just want to finish Expectations in time for the movie release in October.

message 544: by Ann (new)

Ann (annmul) | 19 comments Recently finished Escape From Camp 14 and am now reading The Orphan Master's Son, both for one of my "face to face" book clubs, where we read 2-3 related books each month. This time, obviously, North Korea is the subject. EFC14 is facinating and a quick read. TOMS is a much tougher read, but I'm about half way through and enjoying it more and more as I go along.
Am also reading The Road To Burgundy, a first reads book. Very pleasant, easy read.
