Where Are You?
I live in the Bronx (northeast corner) in New York City. There's a lot of people here-even on a dot!
I live in the original and only a recent city of Cambridge - not withstanding the times of my postings making this obvious and the english idiom of using the letter s instead of z !
Here's the official unveiling: http://g.co/maps/mp2fsI'll add more as people post their info. This is fun! :)
what an amazing feature, our own Flip maplove the aerplanes
where do we find under what topic in group?
HRO, did you send general broadcast?

I don't understand either of those questions. *puzzled look*
oh duh to myself re first question. For some reason it did not show up at first, maybe just took a while becuause it appears now on the home page, just where it should be.HRO: Moderators can send a message to all members at once, a general broadcast
Melissa wrote: "I live near Eugene, Oregon."some good friends used to live in Eugene, great place for a city. Love the Oregon Coast.
Ann wrote: "Salt Lake City, Utah"
I even been to SLC, once, passing through
and Cambridge, Ice
but all those other places are mysteries to me, especially New York where I spent a bewildering afternoon.
Magdelanye wrote: "...all those other places are mysteries to me."And that is why I linked everyone's location to a wikipedia page about the city. (See instructions on the left side of the map.)
And, no, I did not send out a group message. I just created this post.
Ann - I'll add you soonish, probably tomorrow evening.
Great - If you get to the wiki entry for Cambridge, down to Local Government map - I live in the West Chesterton district. And look at our annual rainfall and be jealous !

Hello Miss M.,
My pleasure to join the group!

Methinks kinks is still wondering about her name in the above sentence, my poor french and easy assumptions, that if Jim is in France, then it would be swell to welcome him in the language.

Hello Mr Jim, friend of the marvelous K.
I am very happy that you are now on our flight path.
Now, is your icon Etruscan?
Magdelanye wrote: "Now, is your icon Etruscan? ..."I found the image on Google Images. It is a bust of King Gilgamesh. I don''t know the source, but I would guess maybe Assyrian or some other Mesopotamian culture.
Kinkajou wrote: "If I could, I'd speak 5 or 6 languages. As it is I struggle with only two. ..."Which two do you speak? Which other languages would you like to speak?
Naturally, I'm studying French right now. In high school, I studied German and I'm thinking about revisiting the language, since I have some neural paths that could likely be revivified. I'd love to read Rilke in German, and also, I'd like to visit parts of the former Communist bloc. Apparently, German was a second language in many of those countries because of trade with East Germany.
Beyond that, maybe Spanish, since I'm so close to the Spanish border. Also, it would be useful for future visits to the U.S., since it is rapidly being annexed by Mexico - LOL!
And if I suddenly discover the fountain of youth, Italian, so I can read Italo Calvino. I love his work, but think his writing suffers a little in English translation.

Yes k, whats your other language and is it a mother tongue?
My neural pathways are trying to accomodate Spanish and improve my French, but it seems such a struggle out of context. Total immersion is where its at.

Can you add me? Perigeux, France
I am so sorry, Jim. I didn't have time to do it when I saw your post, and forgot to came back to it. Thanks for reminding me. You're on the map now! :)

This is a group where you don't have to choose books, vote in polls, compete for points, or even read a book. It's a place to free associate, ponder, and discuss books and reading without any deadlines... or something like that!

And hey Paul, its nice to see you here!
As for me, I brood a lot....

Okay with me. Be sure to add ruminate and mull. Let's leave out brood, so we seem more upbeat - LOL!
actually Jim I am going a bit nuts looking for a comment you made that I wanted to reply to and not being able to find it. It was re surveillance I believe
There is Moonbutterfly and Gundula...we would love to have you on our map. and to know a bit more about you and your travels.I have compared books with Gundula before and like a lot of your comments.
Why do I retaiin a sense of guilty pleasure when I do this, because it seems so intimate and an invasion of privacy almost....Thing is, its so innocent. When I read a good review or notice someones name atatched to a particularly perceptive comment, at some point I will want to know a bit more about that person and so then check out their profile and naturally, compare books. And its so interesting.... I have been thinking that I might feel better about the process if it was mutual.
Moonbutterfly, you just flitted in and graced us with a few comments. Would you like to compare books?
Magdelanye wrote: "There is Moonbutterfly and Gundula...we would love to have you on our map. and to know a bit more about you and your travels.I have compared books with Gundula before and like a lot of your commen..."
It is kind of intimate, isn't it? You get to peruse their shelves without having to wait for an invite...
But people can make their profile private can't they. I assumed that made their bookshelves non-viewable too. Anyway, anyone who wants to mooch through my bookshelves is welcome. I come from Leicester by the way. Paul is practically my neighbour.
Being the next closest, I also worked as an interim in a charity on New Walk a couple of years back.
Books mentioned in this topic
Anything Is Possible (other topics)My Name Is Lucy Barton (other topics)
The Lonely City: Adventures in the Art of Being Alone (other topics)

Can everyone please provide me with the name of the city/town/village/dot where you live? This will be a publicly viewable map, so keep that in mind when providing your info. If you live in a small town and you'd rather name a nearby large city, you can do that.
Thanks!
