I'm in Crouch End, north London! Home of "Shaun of the Dead" and a Stephen King short story! Very exciting.

for the record, I am now walking the camino de santiago, my second time, this time with the intention of completing the walk and then finding a new home here.Currently in Estella, a lovely town full of surprises and wonderful nooks and crannies to explore

hi Susan!welcome to flight paths!
if there are enough refugees here we could add a CBC folder!
I'd like to join your group as well, do I need an invitation? between our two groups we might have even more fun
Hi Magdelayne - sounds like a plan - i will miss that group as i have been enjoying all the great discussions! No invitation needed to my group. Am i able to share the name or shall i PM you?
Thanks Magdelayne - I think sharing just promotes a love of reading between sites and groups!! Please join us on CanadianContent and feel free to share your information there too!
I think I have to wait till I'm on a computer, there seems to be no way to join, and my comment didn't appear.well figure this out!
It's good to hear new voices! Welcome all. From many different places to.I've just finished Anything Is Possible by Elizabeth Strout. It plays off characters in the life of Lucy Barton, star of My Name Is Lucy Barton. I found the book terrifically exciting-I loved every story.
I'm also reading The Lonely City: Adventures in the Art of Being Alone, a non-fiction book about loneliness and its use in art-centered in my own NYC. I'm loving it as well but it's intense so I need to take breaks.
I finished my poetry class so I'm catching up on reading, when I'm not working. The snow storm gave me a great excuse to lay about and read!
What a delightful surprise to see you found your way here MaryAnne! Indeed welcome. I hope you will enjoy wandering the different threads here. You will see that this group has gone through a few permutations, its a safe and cosy place meant to nurture flights of fancy. I look forward to your comments here and suggestions.@Ellie, how great of you to beat me to it in welcoming MaryAnne to our hangout.
She is one of my favorite people in the Canadian content group, as is Petra. So happy to welcome them.
Ellie,I'm glad you are OK and got some good reads happening. Very good time for staying indoors.
Stay warm!
All these Canadians: I swear it's a sign! If I could figure out how to let Canada let me in, I'd be there with you all.
Thanks for the wonderful welcome. I wanted to join after lurking thru some of the comments and feeling like I was in a small corner coffee shop eavesdropping on the conversation.I guess I will have to introduce myself. Let me think about what I want to reveal.
@Ellie LoL ! you should check us out at Canadian Content for a total . immersion. But let's not forget Ice Bear, on the other side of the ocean.@ MaryAnne : hopefully if you play around the different topics you will find some inspiration for jumping in.
this group does have a low profile:-) It would be great if someone had the skills of our esteemed and capable co founder HRO
who kept the map updated.

It's lovely to be here! It may take me a while to get oriented.
Here you all are! Lots of familiar names in this group.I'm Megan, I live in Edmonton. A lover of Can lit and other books, but mostly Can lit.
Are you the Megan from CC that I already know and love ?If so please send me a friend request~ when I checked your profile indicated a sock puppet! We need to keep this space clear and real although I fear there are a few malicious lurkers. Since my rotten experience with CC I may be more cautious.
This may be a comment more suitable for whine and cheese!
I hope you are all having fun with the various threads.
Feel free to add comments! You can be sure someone will jump in.I'm excited to see where this takes you and to hear about your process. MaryAnne and Petra included in this: how do you choose what to read next? Do you have any kind of plan>
Magdelanye wrote: "how do you choose what to read next? Do you have any kind of plan."I once knew a man who when he retired always had 50 books on a book shelf. When he read a book he would give it away and buy a new book. To choose what to read he had a lottery system, think die that went from 1 to 50. Each book on his shelf had a slot, with a number, and so he would read whatever fate had decided for him to read, whether it was fiction, nonfiction, whatever. Did I tell you he had been a bank manager who had a nervous breakdown and had to take early retirement?

Hi Megan.
MaryAnne that is too funny. It figures he was a bank manager, giving his power of choice to a lottery! I like the idea of fifty books, read omen replace it. I wouldn't give up the thrill of picking my next book. It's a big choice.
I am more of a squirrel in my own reading habits. I see a list of books, say, Booker Prize, International lit prize, Canada Reads, Book Riot Lists, Electric Literature, Goodreads Friends' Lists, and I make a list of books I really want to read, some listed on the computer, and some listed by hand on paper. I enter some on the Goodreads site as 'want to read.' I start reading one from the lists that I can get right away from a library, and then I forget about the lists, as they are buried in my computer garden or in a paper folder. More lists come my way, and I find another book to read from a new list. I do find my old lists when I dig a bit and sometimes there are still some books on those lists that I would like to read, and lo and behold they are now available at a library.
Before goodreads I was very random usually just picking books from the library or the bookstore at random or referrals from friends/family and I had a love of classics like Austen. Now I have goodreads I follow bingo, or sometimes I just go through my to read list on goodreads and put books on hold at the library.
I still read books recommended to me and even the random book I pull off the library shelves.
