Hannah | 4 comments I am using the author-date in text citation system, but need to cite particular text which is divided into books (collected into one volume; they function like chapters) in which the page numbers restart each time, so I need to indicate which book I am citing from in addition to the page number. How?!

Just in case this isn't clear, a sample reference from a normal book looks like this: (Miller 2007: 56). No reference guide I can find can tell me how/where to include a volume/book number. Can anyone help?!

Jim | 6484 comments Sorry, the only citation problem I have any experience in is parking citations. My daughter had a problem this summer understanding "NO PARKING" signs.

Have you tried looking here:

http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/res...

Hannah | 4 comments Yes! I've tried there and MANY others. Nowhere specifies how to cite this in-text according to the author date system and specify a volume (or part or section); they all assume it will have a separate date and only include information on how to put it on a final reference list.

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments Sorry, I wish I could help, but I don't really know the in-line citation system and wouldn't want to steer you wrong by guessing at a solution.

Is Hannah Heidi?

message 9: by Hannah (new)

Hannah | 4 comments That would work if I wasn't using author-date, but writing "(Moulton 4: 27)" according to the MHRA version would indicate page 27 in a book by Moulton written in the year 4! I'm not yet ready to accept that I need to alter the style I've used consistently over 172 painful pages for the sake of one reference. But thank you anyway!

And who's Heidi?

Amy Neftzger (neftzger) | 304 comments I've never had to cite in MHRA (I've used APA and AMA). I did find this: http://www.essaycoursework.com/howtow...

See page 5 - it says to separate the volume number with a comma.

Jammies Sorry, Hannah, I was in a hurry and got your name wrong. Also sorry I didn't find the correct citation style for you.

message 12: by Hannah (new)

Hannah | 4 comments Amy - Thanks! It's a slightly different style to the one I've been using, but I don't think incorporating that solution is going to cause any issues. And am fed up of looking now!

Jammies - Thanks anyway!

All input much appreciated!
