For me ..mysterious, brooding, lost male, strong female who doesn't take "sh*(t", romance, suspense, mystery and a HEA :)

Seriously though ... anyone else have a secret recipe that really makes a book for you?

I thought I did but after reading , maybe not. When I looked at the back, I thought for sure this is going to be a 5 star read. And when I did read it, it had everything you could want, good characters, setting, action and a bit of romance, a seemingly perfect recipe. Except... I didn't rate it 5 stars, I was sorry I had to put it at 3. Even now, I can't say I hated any aspect of the book, I suppose it just didn't click with me.
Now with , completely loved it. So much so that it's at least in the top 5 books I've read this year and I'm reading the next one straight away (which is what I love about Kindle, no waiting lol). So, I thought maybe it's unique books I love. Though I'm more likely to love unique books, there are plenty of "standard" ones that I've loved as well.
So after all this rambling (and trying to ignore the tentacles and weeping cores), my answer is I don't think I have a secret recipe. I can love books without fantasy or books without romance etc. Maybe I'll go compare my fave books and see what they all have in common :)

It is hard to list really cause it is emotional. If there was a fixed formula I'm sure every author would use it. I personally and very character driven. I need to emotionally connect with the main characters. If a book can transport me to it's world I"m hooked.

I agree. Sometimes I think my "recipe" changes with each good book I read. Some authors nail the characters, some nail the plot, others nail the battle scenes and some amazing few nail them all. I'm kinda easy though and if the book makes me feel anything, has characters I can relate to, provides good world-building, I'm going to give it a high rating.

It would be interesting to take our faves, break them down and see what they have in common, Josie. Now, if I just had the time. ;)
