What are you reading? Do you recommend it?
I finished Careless in Red by Elizabeth George. This is the latest in her Detective Lynley series. In this story Lynley, devastated by a personal tragedy, has been mindlessly hiking for weeks when he comes upon the body of a young rock climber named Santo Kerne. Santo is a good-looking lad who is wildy popular with the ladies; naturally this generates a lot of suspects. There are plenty of interesting characters in the book and the plot moves along briskly - but I was disappointed at the ending -which I felt was overly contrived. Nevertheless, it's a good read and I recommend it.
I finished Infected by Scott Sigler. This was kind of a weird one. In this story people are being infected by "triangles" that make them go insane They then kill their family and friends, set fire to themselves, etc. I felt the book started out with an interesting premise and I was curious about what these triangles were. The story soon became overly drawn out and excessively graphic when an ex football player got infected and "went to war" with his triangles. I won't be reading the sequel to Infected (which I think is called Contagious).
Started this book at lunch today. Nice change of pace after a page turner where people were being turned into zombies.Always enjoy C.J. Box and this starts well.

I just finished this and it is a solid 4, even maybe a 4.5 stars. A couple things ( pet peeves) bother me.
I just started THE SILENT HOUR by Michael Koryta. I was completely engrossed by the end of page 1. I've devoured everything he's written to date and this will be no exception, I can tell. I highly recommend any of Koryta's works. For those that enjoy C.J. Box, he's sharing a six-word memoir with me today on my blog. Stop by and check it out!

)Missing Justice3.5 Follow up to this case is her first case after returning to work and being assigned to the Major case squad. A judge is missing and it reads like a typical case from the missing person to arrest of a suspect. Only problem book is just about 150 pages in and there is a lot left to read. There are hints that this could be a cover for other things going on in Portland and she just won't let it go. MY PROBLEM with this book it took forever to get to the end, I knew what was going on just to get the end. I knew the real ending to the story, just needed to know who the killer was and when exposed I didnt care.
I enjoyed Angel's Tipmore.
FracturedMore 3.5
Typical teeangers cutting school and getting in trouble. Only this time it goes to far, two are dead and one is missing. Trent is assigned the case by Amanada just to piss off the police department since he cleaned out the coruption in the department. Typical kidnapping case but quite a few twists and turn. Nothing is normal about the case and as they search and race against time looking for the girl, sercets are exposed. Slaughter does her research as she potrays bullying and control freaks in great detail and how that control can shatter lives. I felt pain for people in this book and disgust for others. My pet peeve with this book, is Trent's disability, how did he get so far in the police department with it and if found out where cases be appealed and criminals go free?

I'm from the Cleveland area, so I have a special love for the series, but regardless, it's fantastic! Koryta is getting better with every book.

i just finished Lust, Loathing and a Little Lip Gloss by Kyra Davis. I love this series, it reminds me of a West Coast Stephanie Plum. She provides the perfect like summer read...I'm sad to see the Sophie Katz series come to an end!!
I just finished Look Again by Lisa Scottoline. Her books are very entertaining, but I didn't like this one as well as her series with lawyer heroines. Part of this was to easy to figure out. No spoilers!

Hey Kathy D! Do you mean Robert Crais?? He has a new book coming out soon. I can't wait even though I've never been to LA. :)

I'm a Craisie, too! I went to L.A. for the first time this year to attend the L.A. Times Book Festival and meet RC. It was wonderful. I also got to see some of his L.A. - like Griffith Park! I, too, am looking forward to February and the new Joe Pike novel!

I usually don't do that, and you can understand the book perfectly fine if you haven't read any of the other Lincoln Perry novels. But, you won't get the full effect of the book without at least having read SORROW'S ANTHEM and A WELCOME GRAVE first. It is so powerful if you are already invested in Lincoln as a character.
Anyway, I just wanted to make that recommendation. Enjoy Lincoln!! :)

Oh man! I am soooooo jealous!
I just finished The Help and had to give it 5 stars. I read it in less than a week and hated to see it end. What a great book! I've just begun to read Hunger Games. It's a bit different than my usual so I don't know if I'll like it.

Struggling through the start of this book. Not very exciting and with all of the Roman names and setting it's very difficult to read.

Thanks for the recommendation! It's now on my to read pile.
Nesbo's NEMESIS, about a series of armed bank robberies, is typical of Nordic mysteries in its sociological sweep. We are treated to a panoptic view of life at all levels of society in Oslo, starting from the clever, talented and lying gypsies up to a prime liar who is lord of towels wrapped in mystery. The alcoholic detective Harry Hole has holes in his memory, possibly from poorly suppressed rage from previous cases in which, as here, a lover or female colleague has gotten bumped off. Nesbo has revamped some of the American noir style into a humane and literary narrative that keeps me wondering what new sort of trouble will erupt. An engrossing if somewhat foreign read
I just finished "Mansions of the Dead" by Sarah Stewart Taylor, a fine book by a young author. If you'd like to know my impressions, check out my review of it here on Goodreads.Mansions of the Dead

Stephen Hunter fans, check out my review of "Envy The Night" I think you'll find the similarity between authors attention getting.
I'm listening to the audio of Aphrodite by Russell Andrews. It sure starts off with a bang. A young journalist writes the obituary of an acquaintance named Bill, an elderly actor living in a retirement home. In the piece she mentions a long ago nomination Bill received for best supporting actor. A movie fanatic calls the paper insisting this Oscar nomination never happened. The incident seems to cause all hell to break loose with people being brutally murdered all over the place. So far I'm quite intrigued, wondering what's going on.

Be careful of your meds when you read this one. These are not your usual lovers. "And in that instant what was fractured inside Will Parker came apart forever, and he knew that he could take no more. The first shot killed the boy..." "We'll come back (the girl whispered) "We'll keep coming back until it's done."

I appreciate your recommendation that I read the other Koryta books first but that isn't possible right now. The Silent Hour is for review and I'm on a deadline but I've put all of his books on my wish list.
I read the first Koryta novel, TONIGHT I SAID GOODBYE, and enjoyed it. I bought the second one when I met Koryta at a program; it's on my to be read shelf. FYI, Michael Koryta will be in Rocky River, Ohio for a program sponsored by the Rocky River Public Library, on August 12, 7 p.m. at the Community Center.
How lucky that you get to meet Koryta. I just ordered his first two novels and I just finished The Silent Hour which was greet.
I'm reading The Turnaround by Pelacanos, The Scarecrow by Connelly, and listening to Dark Assassin by Perry. Too soon for any recommendations.
I'm reading Agatha Christie....going through from beginning to end the Miss Marple series. Just started The Tuesday Club Murders. Also, I highly recommend Linda Fairstein. I read Lethal Legacy and have started now at the beginning of the series, though you do not have to read the first book in order to know what is going on in any of the 11 she is has written.
Susanna, be ready to read The Girl who played with Fire and the third volume is coming next October in UK!!

well Jim, as a friend of mine says "kick the wife, dogs and kids out, turn off the phone and TV and don't answer the doorbell!!" I would add, take a long breath before you start to read it!!
Taking a reading break from the blood and gore of some of the books recently read and now reading Pete Hautman's "Short Money." This is the prequil to his "Drawing Dead" and tells us about the earlier episodes of Joe Crow. p 60 and no one has been torn to pieces yet.
I love Pete Hautman's early work: Mortal Nuts is a riot. I liked Rags or Ragman (can't remember the exact title) also. A great talent!
ECHO PARK by Michael Connellyjust started but already interesting as usual with Connelly's books
he/Rankin/Peter Robinson always seem to deliver
