Shirley (discipleshirley) | 35 comments The Lost Empire:

The day started out just fine. The weather was beautiful. Nothing could compare to Sechlach's weather when the moons were full.

A salty breeze skimmed my face, causing my hair to float around me. What was that? My elfin ears turned in the direction of the strange noise.

Skidding to a stop I grasped my brother's arm. Shaking it off he whistled thru his teeth. Jelf did not have the elfin characteristics like my elder sister and I, he was all human like dad. He found my elfin senses a bore.

"What is it this time, Skye? A Saturnain or maybe one of the old men from Neptune's seas?"

Glaring at Jelf, my ears picked up the noise once again. There in the east. Repetitive bleeps. Nothing like I have ever heard before.

"This time it is for real, Jelf!" Thrusting by books into his hands, I turned on heel. "I need to get mother!"

"Gee, maybe she did hear something this time." Jelf hugged the books to his chest and trotted after me. A life time of lost races had taught him that he could not keep up with my elfin feet.

There in the distances was "Shama Labatories." An extra terrestian lab run by our parents.

"Mom!" I shouted, almost causing my father to fall off a ladder he was climbing. Dusting off the ancient scroll he had been holding, he bellowed "Skye, how many times....."

"Not now, dear. Mothers ears had twisted to face me. Her green eyes sparkled, a lost look in them."It is time, David. The time we have both dreaded and looked forward to."

Scurrying down the ladder, Dad gathered my mother into his arms..."Are you sure?"

By now Jelf had entered huffing and puffing from his exertions. "What does she mean, father? Time for what? He asked, confused.

My skin prickled, my elfin senses were on edge. I was on the verge of some miraculous discovery, I could feel it.

"Lets go into my office, mother instructed. Carefully laying aside the beaker she had been holding."

Impatient, Jelf spoke as soon as the door closed. "Skye really heard an atomspheric tone, today!:

Mother looked at Dad, grasping his hand until her knuckles were white. Dad took a letter using it to wedge the drawer out of mother's desk. "There it is," he mummured.

Prying the object from the wood, he held up a funny shaped key. Father never seemed afraid, but his hands shook. Walking to the secret safe, he placed the key in the lock.

With a wing and a whistle it opened. Jelf and I crowded around. We all backed up against it as the door suddenly opened. "There you all are....Mom I hear.....

Grabbing my sisters arm, mother shut the door. Lather's eyes grew big. Inside the safe was a large black pot. Inside that pot were coins of...could it be gold! The metal sparkled casting off a prism of rainbow like colors.

Hurridly locking the safe, Father sighed and said "Let me tell you about a place called "Ireland".
