Angie (seren-lucy) | 1147 comments It is time to begin thinking about October.
Please send through your suggestions for the following challenges...
Challenge 1: A New Zealand book - that is a book set in New Zealand or about a New Zealander, or written by a New Zealander or a combination (you get my drift).
Challenge 2: Any other book you would love to read or promote - biography, classic, a favourite, historical fiction etc (Maybe a thriller for Halloween?)
The Young Adult challenge runs over two months, so The Hobbit remains this book until November.
We also have an additional challenge - to read Isabelle's Locket by our group member Colleen Mitchell.
Get your suggestions in to me by September 15. You will then get five days to nominate a book from each Challenge. I'll announce the winners on September 21.
Get thinking and nominating. Remember to tell your friends about Book Loving Kiwis!

Angie (seren-lucy) | 1147 comments My nominations for October are...
Challenge 1: A Land of Two Halves: An Accidental Tour of New Zealand
Challenge 2: The first of Ngaio Marsh's (NZ author) detective books set in England, A Man Lay Dead
I've never read a Ngaio Marsh book before, and the Joe Bennett book has been sitting in our bookcase for a couple of years now.

Angie (seren-lucy) | 1147 comments Come on people - nominate! Only two more days until it goes to the polls.

Marita Hansen (maritaahansen) | 152 comments I would like to nominate my book "Behind the Hood" for October. It's set in South Auckland and is a very fast-paced read.Behind the Hood

Angie (seren-lucy) | 1147 comments As we only had one nomination (besides mine) for the October group reads, I have added Colleen's book, Isabelle's Locket into the mix rather than making it an additional piece of reading.
Please vote on the book you most want to read in October in the poll at the bottom of the page.
Due to lack of interest, we may only have one challenge in October. Get involved!

Linda | 3 comments After reading the synopsis, I would like to vote for "Behind the Hood"

I've already read Behind the Hood, so I want to vote for it.

Angie (seren-lucy) | 1147 comments Hi guys. Make sure you scroll down to the bottom of the group home page and vote in the poll. You can also get to the poll by clicking on the link 'polls' to the right of the page. Good to see so many people voting!

Angie (seren-lucy) | 1147 comments A record 9 people have voted on our October group reads poll so far. Fantastic stuff! Get those votes in by the end of day Sept 20. I'll announce the winners on Sept 21. Also, encourage your friends to join our group. The more members the better the discussion.

Angie (seren-lucy) | 1147 comments And the winners are...
Behind the Hood with four votes and Isabelle's Locket with three votes. Thank you to everyone for voting. We had a record 10 votes this month.
It will be great to have both Marita and Colleen available to answer any questions as we read these books during October. Enjoy and get involved!

Thanks Angie.
I'll definately be available for reader discussions or questions, and I look forward to reading Marita's book:)
Isabelle's Locket is available from most on-line bookstores (Not the Warehouse though) at varying prices (beats me how they set their pricing structure, there's a huge variation in prices out there)or is cheapest directly from me via TradeMe for $10 with free postage.

Is it available as an ebook?

message 14: by Colleen (new)

Colleen Mitchell | 55 comments Sorry not available as ebook yet. My publisher is still deciding whether to do ebooks. I hope they do.

Angie (seren-lucy) | 1147 comments Only two more days of September. Have you tracked down our group reads for October? Folders are set up to discuss each of the books. I look forward to chatting.

message 16: by Colleen (new)

Colleen Mitchell | 55 comments I'm thinking that Behind the Hood and Isabelle's Locket will be a good pairing because they are so very different. It's like two seperate glimpses into New Zealand life that produce quite different realities, both of which are valid and real in NZ today. (Of course I'm talking about the 2010 bits of Isabelle's Locket, not the 1910 bits, although that too is a valid reality, albeit of a bygone era).

Angie (seren-lucy) | 1147 comments Welcome to October. Enjoy the great group reads we have selected. Colleen and Marita are both happy to discuss their books with you and to answer any questions you may have. I am half way through Sense and Sensibility for the Classics group I belong to, and will then be starting Isabelle's Locket. Remember to spread the word about our group and to join in on the discussions. Thanks for being a part of Book Loving Kiwis!
