http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/... and http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/... are the links toy your reviews Emma- try to post links to reviews rather than books, or your review can't be found by people who aren't your friends. Two great reviews. Lower ability readers at lower KS2 love Don't Put Your Finger In The Jelly, Nelly, too!

Two great reviews, Alyona and Stephen. My nephew's favourite book for a while was Each Peach Pear Plum Stephen, I'd recommend it! He loved spotting the traditional tale/ nursery rhyme characters in the pictures.

Thanks Amy. It is a fun read, and I think would be appropriate for more mature Y6 children as a book for independent reading. I'd recommend Brave New Girl if you enjoyed it, or The Princess Diaries.

Deborah Malaponti | 10 comments Beware Of Boys (Picture Puffin) Beware Of Boys by Tony Blundell

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Beware of Boys is a fantastic book about a hungry wolf and a quick thinking young boy. While the wolf may be big and scary, he is no match for the wit of his quarry, who tricks him again and again in this inspired twist on an old fairy tale cliché. The book as the element of ‘little red riding hood’ but this time the child that goes into the forest is a boy. This is a book that you want to keep reading and seeing what happens, as when the boy is caught by the wolf and he keeps sending him off to get ingredients you want to read till the end to see what actually happens with the boy does he get eaten or does something else happen. The book has some advanced word-play that will challenge the more confident readers, while at the same time having the structure of repetition, found in many books aimed at the small children. The book can be used in a mixed ability class; as it can engage all children. I really liked the way that there are different types of writing within the book. I think the use of recipes and instructions is fantastic as it engages the children to understand different types of writing in a fun way. Whether it is part of a lesson, or simply as a fun reading book, Beware of Boys would be a great asset to any teacher in early key stage 2. The illustrations are great for children to look at as they are very colourful.

Deborah Malaponti | 10 comments Here is my review for 'We're going on a bear hunt'.
We're Going on a Bear Hunt We're Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a great book that can be enjoyed by children of all ages. It follow the exciting journey of a family as they pass through the grass, the river, the mud, the dark forest and the storm in search of the bear on the other side of the dark forest. The illustrations are colourful and gripping and the use of repetition is very much received by children of the EYFS and Key Stage 1 who enjoy being read to aloud and join in. The repetition of the words in the book also makes the book very catchy and children love to join in, as it seems to follow the same pattern but they go through different things. The children pick this up and join in towards the end of the book. It is very interactive with lots of audience participation through making sounds and actions.
I saw this book being used in nursery and it was great. The children loved the repetition of ‘we’re going on a bear hunt..’ and also loved the different sounds of the mud, grass, river, the dark forest and the storm. The children would sit on the carpet as the teacher was reading this book to them and make the noises and do the actions with their arms or their feet. They also created a role play area in the play house, where behind the playhouse they put brown card down for the mud, fake grass, wood logs for the forest and blue strips as the river. The children loved this and used it a lot to re-create the bear hunt story by themselves.
Great book. Definitely recommended.

A very thoughtful review, Paul. I have used it in the past with children who had problems expressing anger, instead reacting violently. It's like Where the Wild Things Are in that respect, I think.
