A really nice read for EYFS and KS1 and a useful starting point for a Year 2 Philosophy lesson.

This is a beuatiful picture book which aims to detail what love means to a child. It is a book which is bursting with positivity and the text is so beautifully supported by the bright and engaging illustrations that it became a favourite in my SEB reception class.
The book starts using rhyming couplets which help the children engage through rhythm. However, this rhythm changes mid-way through the book and I think this helped to recapture children's attention as they noticed the change.
It was a good basis for a circle time concerning how we can show love and care to each other. Children particularly focussed on the page stating "Seeing the good, the way we all should. Being special, being there, the way you are, the way you care, that's love." I thought the subsequent discussions about love and care were quite impressive for EYFS children, which I think proves how this book captured the children's thoughts.

Fantastic reviews, P3. Laura, it is frustrating when books aren't on Goodreads, but thank you for reviewing That's Love anyway.

Fabulous reviews, Sheena and Kathleen. Thanks for posting them! Kathleen, have you heard of The Upstairs Room? Very powerful children's book by Johanna Reiss, who lived in hiding in a farmhouse in Holland as a child.

Great reviews, of some books that are new to me. Have you read any of Gillian Cross's Demon Headmaster books, Matt?

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This is one of the first books I remember ever reading - alone and by choice. I have since read it a few times as a teenager and again as an adult - and I look forward to the day I can share it with a class.
It is the story of a Pig named Wilbur who was rescued from death by a strong willed and determined young girl called Fern. When Wilbur is too big for Fern to continue looking after him in her home she takes him to stay in the barn. It is here Wilbur forms unusual friendships with the other farm animals - including his friendship with the very intelligent spider Charlotte. Charlotte helps to save Wilbur from slaughter and in the end dies after giving birth to her own children.
This book is beautifully written and tells the story of determination, fighting for what is right, the weak winning over the strong, friendship, loyalty, the changing of seasons, the cycle of life and death and importance of change and kindness. It is a wonderful book to share with children as it opens up numerous discussion points and would help discuss PSHE issues - an important one being 'empathy'.
