Elmer and the Lost Teddy Elmer and the Lost Teddy by David McKee

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book is from the Elmer range and Elmer the elephant is helping baby elephant look for his teddy.

He offers the baby his own teddy whislt he looks for his.

It has a very fasinating trail story, leading the reader towards different animals who Elmer thinks may have seen Baby Elephant's teddy. Each animal already have their own teddies.

Eventuall the lost teddy is found by another patchwork elephant, who asks the obvious question of Elmer giving his own patchwork teddy to Baby elephant and that wasnt Elmer worried that he might not get his teddy back. To which Elmer, beautifully sums up "you dont have to be different to be special, all teddies are special"

For me this was a meanigful ending, getting the young reader thinking about different children/people being special in their own way.

The illustration was colourful, showing different patchwork animals.

Great reviews, everyone. Alex, I've used The Diary of a Killer Cat with Y3 and 4 guided reading groups; they enjoyed it. Paul, I'd recommend The Silver Sword as another really interesting take on WW2 and its aftermath from a different perspective.

Fantastic. I just got Hubble Bubble, Granny Trouble and loved it! If you can order it from your library, it would be great to read to Reception or KS1 children.

Claire Dowdall | 5 comments Goodreads does not seem to have this book on record. This is my review of Liar.

Name of Book: Liar
Author: Janine Amos
Illustrated by: Gwen Green

Janine Amos wrote this book. The book describes various types of situations children can get them selves into. In particular it highlights how and why children lie in these situations. The book describes four different children’s scenarios in relation to lying. It begins with a young girl named Kerry. It tells the story of Kerry playing with her friends in school, and that when the discussions of holidays arise, Kerry gets carried away and lies to her friends about her summer holiday plans. The story continues to show how Kerry feels after telling the lies and how the feelings of guilt overwhelm her. It then gives scenarios such as; why Kerry is feeling like she is, why she lied initially, why lying is not acceptable and a reflection piece that allows the reader to consider why Kerry has lied. I found this book to be an excellent learning tool for children specifically when teaching them the importance of telling the truth. The book promotes honesty and shows how it can be easy for children to get carried away when telling stories. In my opinion this book is suitable for Key stage one students aged between six to eight years.

Rick Riordan books are great fun, very plot-driven and enjoyable to read, if you can get over the rather gung-ho American-centric nature of them. I enjoyed the latest Percy Jackson one, but haven't read any of the Red Pyramid ones yet. Thanks, Eddie.

Great reviews! Oxford Reading Tree are wonderful for lower ability readers, Zaynab; the stories are fun and interesting, unlike many graded reading schemes! I haven't read Victory, Eoin, but I'll look out for it; I love her The Dark Is Rising Sequence.
