A mum has pulled her seven-year-old son out of school after he was made to write out an apology to 'repent his sins' on a piece of paper – then eat it.

MadgeUK More and more of our schools are becoming 'faith' schools because of changes introduced by Tony Blair and now this government. Out of seven new schools recently opened and run by parents, as against the state (but with state money - my taxes!) three of them were religious schools. It is very retrograde step. Parents are sending their children to 'faith' schools, not for the religion but because these schools are supposed to be better disciplined. In reality, they just have smaller class sizes. They little realise what harm they are doing by allowing their children to become indoctrinated.

I don't understand parents who send their children to faith schools when they are not themselves religious.

MadgeUK They are supposed to give a better education overall, but, as with private schools in general, it is because their class sizes are smaller. They often have a 'management' tier too, which relieves the class teachers of administrative dutites. All the state needs to too is to reduce class sizes and put in more admin staff - but that costs money = taxes.

I suppose, but I would never put my hypothetical children in a position to be religiously indoctrinated. It's my bias against religion, but I just can't imagine doing that.
