I'm going to start this one out with the shocking stuff first.
156) Catelyn and Brienne reunited. Do you think Brienne will die?
157) Podrick dead???? No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
158) Rob's wife's family was in on killing him? Oh dear goodness! I'm utterly speechless! Anyone see this coming?
159) Cersei and Margaery held by the Septa??????? What did Cersie unleash?
160) Cersei's note to Jaime was very vague. I don't blame him for not going. Do you think he would have if he realized what a mess she'd landed herself in?
161) Any thoughts on what letting Ser Brynden escape will do?
162) Freys going to side with Stannis? Could be an interesting developement.
163) I have to say I hate how women are made to look so frail and stupid in this book. I want Dany! I'm even questioning Arya's intelligence since she took up with the creepy guy with a worm in his eye socket.
164) I'm a little confused. Samwell ended up where he was supposed to go, but Gilly will stay with the Islanders?
165) Thoughts on the visit with the archmaester?
166) They thought Stannis was to be King. Once they realize it's Dany who was to fulfill the prophecy, what will they do with Stannis?
Who's going to continue with the next book? Do we need a break?

I'm going to start this one out with the shocking stuff first.
156) Catelyn and Brienne reunited. Do you think Brienne will die?
I know! I was hoping for a reunion, but didn’t expect Catelyn to be the evil one in the scenario. Unlike Beric Dondarrion, Lady Stoneheart is a truly different person. Nope, I think Brienne will live. Can’t imagine what she yelled. I don’t think “Sapphires” would work, would it?
157) Podrick dead???? No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This really pissed me off. Almost as much as Ned Stark, which I understood, in a way. Just makes me realize there is so little in the book to cheer for.
158) Robb's wife's family was in on killing him? Oh dear goodness! I'm utterly speechless! Anyone see this coming?
I was totally flabbergasted. Lady Westerling is disgusting and I’m glad Jamie told her to “get out of town by tomorrow”. Who knew Lord Tywin was so devious? Well, we all did, but…
159) Cersei and Margaery held by the Septa??????? What did Cersie unleash?
Yes, it makes me wonder if Pycelle was in on the plot to eliminate both queens.
160) Cersei's note to Jaime was very vague. I don't blame him for not going. Do you think he would have if he realized what a mess she'd landed herself in?
I thought it was vague too! I think he might have gone if it had been clearer, if only that the “Lannister” kingdom is now at stake, or at least control of King Tommen.
161) Any thoughts on what letting Ser Brynden escape will do?
The plot thickens, indeed. I don’t know answer, but I have a ton more: Will he run into Lady Stoneheart? Or end up somewhere else? Maybe with Sansa?
162) Freys going to side with Stannis? Could be an interesting development.
They have no loyalty, not even amongst themselves – not even compared to anyone else.
163) I have to say I hate how women are made to look so frail and stupid in this book. I want Dany! I'm even questioning Arya's intelligence since she took up with the creepy guy with a worm in his eye socket.
LOL! Yes, this book wasn’t good PR for women.
164) I'm a little confused. Samwell ended up where he was supposed to go, but Gilly will stay with the Islanders?
I was confused too. I need to look at the map to figure out how close his family home and the Islanders are.
165) Thoughts on the visit with the archmaester?
Mostly a question: What was the difference b/t the first place he went to to tell his story and the second? I didn’t understand the relevance of that at all, but it has got to have some significance.
166) They thought Stannis was to be King. Once they realize it's Dany who was to fulfill the prophecy, what will they do with Stannis?
He’s toast.
Who's going to continue with the next book? Do we need a break?
I don’t know. I’m not sure if I’m in or not for A Dance With Dragons. I put in for it at the library for audiobook, but I’m not using my birthday gift cert to purchase it; the books have b/c too violent and depressing for me. And, I heard the next one isn’t any better. I’ll let you know if I get the book in time. When I do get it, maybe I’ll answer your questions, ladies. I’ve enjoyed the “buddy read’ – it was the only bright spot about this bleak book.
I gave all the previous books ★★★★★; this one gets ★★★½✩.

I'm going to start this one out with the shocking stuff first.
156) Catelyn and Brienne reunited. Do you think Brienne will die?
OH, man...I was so upset that Catelyn didn't believe Brienne. Although,I suppose Catelyn isn't really herself anymore. *sigh* these last chapters were difficult and depressing! I hope Brienne doesn't die! There is a character in my favorite series (Outlander)who survives a hanging, so I suppose it's possible she will live.
157) Podrick dead???? No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Again, sad and depressing. Can he somehow be saved? I think this is GRRM begging us to keep going. Can you imagine if we had to wait FIVE YEARS to see how this continues????
158) Rob's wife's family was in on killing him? Oh dear goodness! I'm utterly speechless! Anyone see this coming? I was a little confused about this. She states "If I had known what was to happen there [at the Twins] I would never have allowed that { meaning she wouldn't have allowed her son to go there]. So, was she in on it from the beginning or did she agree to side with Tywin after the Red Wedding happened? And no, I didn't suspect this. I suppose it's not surprising considering the Westerlings were on the Lannisters' side in the first place, before Robb defeated them.
159) Cersei and Margaery held by the Septa??????? What did Cersie unleash? I don't know. I know Cersei deserves what's coming to her, but these people are just STRANGE.
160) Cersei's note to Jaime was very vague. I don't blame him for not going. Do you think he would have if he realized what a mess she'd landed herself in? This was certainly a turning point for Jaime and Cersei. I admit I was surprised he didn't help her. I wonder if he realizes that it's a life or death situation.
161) Any thoughts on what letting Ser Brynden escape will do? He could build an army against the Lannisters.
162) Freys going to side with Stannis? Could be an interesting developement. Yes, indeed.
163) I have to say I hate how women are made to look so frail and stupid in this book. I want Dany! I'm even questioning Arya's intelligence since she took up with the creepy guy with a worm in his eye socket. I know. I've said before how I hate the direction Arya is going. I am not happy with it at all. Here's hoping for lots of Dany in book 5!
164) I'm a little confused. Samwell ended up where he was supposed to go, but Gilly will stay with the Islanders???
165) Thoughts on the visit with the archmaester? The archmaester was just waiting for a reason to take off to find Dany.
After re-reading the prologue, I am wondering is "Pate" really the alchemist who killed the real Pate in the Prologue?
166) They thought Stannis was to be King. Once they realize it's Dany who was to fulfill the prophecy, what will they do with Stannis? I think Stannis will take the lead in fighting the Others, since he's at the Wall.
Who's going to continue with the next book? Do we need a break?
I am going to continue. I am flexible to start any time.

#156 – Although,I suppose Catelyn isn't really herself anymore.
Really! In Real Life, almost all people who come back from the dead had a renewed appreciation for life. At least in my experience. But, alas, I guess Catelyn was dead too long. I didn’t understand all of Brienne’s dreams either. Was she really seeing the dead? Did that mean she was that close to death? You dislike what GRRM is doing to Arya; well, I dislike what he has done to Brienne.
#157 – Can you imagine if we had to wait FIVE YEARS to see how this continues????
Come talk to me after you finish A Dance With Dragons. I mean, how is this guy going to write book six - let alone seven - and also have so much say-so in the HBO series? I hope he’s manic.
#158 – So, was she in on it from the beginning or did she agree to side with Tywin after the Red Wedding happened?
Ah! Good catch, that. I think Lady Sybell Westerling never “bent her knee” to King Robb, even when he became her son-in-law. She probably contacted Lord Tywin and remained loyal to his cause, agreeing to spy on the young king where she could. That’s why she kept giving her daughter, poor Queen Jeyne, tea to keep her infertile. Unfortunately for Lady Sybell, the Freys didn’t let her in on their plans. I LOVE that Raynald cut King Robb’s direwolf, Grey Wolf, loose when they went to kill him; I hope he did it for humanitarian reasons; seems he and his sister share a sense of honor.
#165 – The archmaester was just waiting for a reason to take off to find Dany.
LOL! He was? Okay, now that I think back on it, yes, I concur.
After re-reading the prologue, I am wondering is "Pate" really the alchemist who killed the real Pate in the Prologue?
Curse you, Sandy, you made me re-read the prologue when I wanted to be done with this book! (LOL! Just kidding.) I was wondering about this switch-around too. I think that it is a new “Pate”. Does it have something to do with the darn key?

Excellent thought.

#148 – I couldn't figure out why Gerold did that...was he the one who betrayed the plot?
I couldn’t figure out his motive either, unless he was an undercover assassin. If so, whose? And if so, then he wouldn’t betray the plot, or would he?
#151 – Littlefinger is pervy and creepy! I still don't know how he can marry her off when she's already married. He's assuming he will find Tyrion. Maybe he already knows where he is?
I’m in total agreement on the pervy and creepy description. He might know where Tyrion is! O.M.G. You could be right on that part; I hadn’t thought of it, but that would make total sense, as he is the one who could hide him.
#152 – would ruin his plans for world domination
LMAO! Right you are.
#154 – I think she's really grown as a person since we first met her.
I think you’re right on all counts for this answer, but especially this one.
#155 – I think she is a paid spy. Sansa is wise to keep her mouth shut.
True. But, if she is a paid spy, who is paying her?
