Janet Well it's April 17th and snowing here in Colorado! It rained most of the morning and has now turned to snow. Pretty crazy but the perfect weather to stay in a watch a movie!

message 402: by Rafaela (new)

Rafaela | 136 comments Roisu, how was your exam?
Tahleen, I'll check your site out. And I didn’t know you are so close to graduation! When it is gonna happen ( which month)?

message 403: by Tahleen (last edited Apr 17, 2009 08:19PM) (new)

Tahleen May 17... man it is exactly a month away from today. And thanks for checking out my site! The more hits the better :)

message 404: by Matthieu (new)

Matthieu | 130 comments Ah, the weather was absolutely beautiful today. I took the train to Philly shortly after noon. UPenn is having their annual Spring Fling, so I figured that this would be an appropriate weekend to visit my friends.

Mandee (amandalinajanel) | 378 comments Have fun!

Matthieu | 130 comments Ha, thanks, Mandee! I'm having a great time. It's nice to get away once in a while...

Matthieu | 130 comments Have you ever visited Penn, Jamie? It's definitely one of my favourite places in the city.

message 409: by Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner), The Founding Bookworm (new)

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 4407 comments Mod
Yeah I've been there a few times! I'd love to go there if I end up going back to school for my Masters!

message 410: by Matthieu (new)

Matthieu | 130 comments Oh, you should! I wish you the best of luck. I'm really, really impressed with their selection of graduate programs.

Philly pride.

message 411: by [deleted user] (last edited Apr 18, 2009 06:45AM) (new)

Hey Rafaela! I had 3 exams, one on sociology, one politics and one psychology. The sociology and politics exams went ok, the psychology exam was not good. I was wrecked due to sleep deprivation...2 more to go..how was your exams?

Wow Tahleen, you must be excited about graduating so soon! I visited your site too, it is preeeeeeeeeety cool!

message 412: by Rafaela (new)

Rafaela | 136 comments I had 2 exams. Not good. This result is the continuous state of my procrastination! I'm going to have a hard work to retrieve my notes.

I'm graduating in December 18. Yesterday I signed a contract for the graduation party. That was enough to get me so excited!

message 413: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen Thanks Roisu! I need to add a few more but I think it's almost ready for at least a grade if not a complete review of the popular vamp teen books. Let me know if anyone thinks of any other books. Also, good luck on the rest of your exams!

I hate how indecisive I can be. I can never choose something as simple as what I want to do before bed. Do I want to read or watch another hour of Project Runway? ugh. I'm the worst to go out to eat with. i can never decide on anything until the last second. I'm good under pressure lol.

Is anyone else like that? Or am I just a freak? haha

message 415: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen No I am totally like that. Although I don't flip-flop, I will always just be like "I don't really care" so I guess you could say I'm passive when it comes to decision making. Which irritates/frustrates my loved ones to no end.

message 416: by Nuri (last edited Apr 19, 2009 10:57PM) (new)

Nuri (nools) | 145 comments Oh, man. I feel you on the indecision, Jamie. It's been almost intolerable lately:
Should I try for medschool? Or go for the English PhD? Will either make me happy??

I'll change every other hour or so. It's been kind of maddening.

message 417: by [deleted user] (new)

I have an exam in a few hours. Yaay!

message 418: by [deleted user] (new)

i had one last wk, i had no i had no idea what was on it, that what i get when i procrasinate

message 419: by Rafaela (new)

Rafaela | 136 comments Roisu, one more time: good luck there!

Gene, I am with you on procrastination. And, on the last second, under pressure (just like Jamie said) I start studying overnights. That's horrible.

message 420: by Anna (new)

Anna Shumaker (annashu) I am the most indecisive person in the world. It drives me crazy but then when I do decide something I absolutely have to do it. For example I won't know what I want to eat for dinner until suddenly it hits me that I want chicken enchiladas (or whatever) so i have to go to store and buy the fixin's because nothing else will do. If I ever go out to eat with friends they just tell me what I want instead of giving me a decision.

I was also a terrible procrastinator until I took 20 credits and worked...that broke me of the habit really quick (except for those sunny days)

message 421: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey Baguinat (kelseybaguinat) I'm exactly the same way. I'm SO indecisive it's ridiculous. But if I make up my mind that I really want to do something (like go to bed early to read or play pool or watch a movie, etc.), I get upset if the plan changes. I'm not a big fan of change (unless its name is Obama).

message 422: by Janet (new)

Janet Haha I am the same way! I am so indecisive!

So I have a couple of random things. Does anyone else like postsecret.com? I just got obsessed with it recently!! I LOVE it!!

Number 2. This is somewhat personal and random. Anyway today was a really hard day. All over the news is everything about Columbine. That's where I went to high school and my sister was at Columbine at the time. It's just sad to think about how I could have lost my sister 10 years ago today. I don't know why it's hitting me so hard this year but it is. And even thought I hate the media...people need to remember and should never forget! Also, it's coming up on the one year anniversery of my dog passing away. It's on Tuesday. Then, also on Tuesday, is the day my grandma passed away 12 years ago. So...all in all it's a pretty tough week and it doesn't help that I have a ton of homework!! Haha. But I just needed to get all that off of my chest and just want to be sad for a couple of days. Does anyone else just ever want to feel sad? I don't feel like people should not ever be sad because sometimes we just need to be!

message 423: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen Janet, I'm sorry all the bad anniversaries are happening in the same week for you. I know what you mean about wanting to be sad; sometimes I want to just have a good cry because I know it will make me feel better.

message 424: by Anna (new)

Anna Shumaker (annashu) Janet, it is ok to be sad sometimes especially when circumstances call for sadness. I think there are a lot of people (perhaps myself) who try so hard not to be sad until everything gets to be too much. I'm sorry that you are going through so much but things will get better and until then you can be sad. Also the media is full of hooey.

message 425: by [deleted user] (new)

Today is Tuesday...I'm sorry Janet. I live thousands of miles away so I'll give you an imaginary hug! It must be really hard for you and your sister. And you're absolutely right, I think that people should feel sad sometimes. Do what ya gotta do, feel sad, cry, do whatever. And don't worry too much about the homework, it will sort itself out, these things usually do. Look after yourself, girl!

P.S. I LOVE Postsecret!

message 426: by Rafaela (last edited Apr 21, 2009 07:31PM) (new)

Rafaela | 136 comments Even here, the media reminded what happened. And ye see, I live in Brazil, a country with too many social differences and considerable indicators on violence, but it scares us.
A note from the Official National Journal (the picturesque translation is mine): "Every investment in safety has been in vain front a free trade of guns. In the United States, any American on legal age who has never gone through a psychiatric institution, can buy a gun and may have done so for fear of insecurity at this time of financial crisis. " This is RIDICULOUS and makes me so, so angry!

I'm sorry Janet! And the girls are right! I totally agree with them. Just take your time... And if you need to talk more about it, we are here.

message 427: by Rafaela (new)

Rafaela | 136 comments Uh, I read what I wrote, I think I was excited. I didn't want to criticize the United States or whatever. Please don't get me wrong. I love the United States.

message 428: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen Rafaela I don't like that anyone can buy a gun. A lot of guns in the U.S. are bought for protection, but they are often put somewhere in the house where kids can get at them and play with them (I did read that somewhere... I'm not making it up!). But I hate guns...

message 429: by Rafaela (last edited Apr 21, 2009 07:37PM) (new)

Rafaela | 136 comments Here in Brazil guns are totally banned but the "bad guys" get it anyway just like SbG said. I live in Northeast and (thanks to God) is not dangerous as in South, in cities like Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo. However, I am quite scared when it comes to violence. It's terrible when you live in fear: we live in a cottage (I get only 15 minutes by car to go to college) and we have walls and fences throughout the whole property and sometimes had private security guards. We have to choose carefully the places to go. I hate that.
((My sister was in London, Germany, Denmark and Hawaii. She speaks about these places with great nostalgia because she felt very safe there. My dream is to live in one of those American towns that I know from the movies I watched as a kid, in which you don't have fences and can go for groceries by bike. One day, who knows?))

Saved By Grace- do you know which state is she from?
Tahllen- I read about accidents with kids "playing" with guns :(

message 430: by Rafaela (new)

Rafaela | 136 comments Oops, my sister told me that some Americans call "Cape Cod" that sort of dwelling that we call "cottage". lol
I'm so confusing with American/British English

message 431: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen Only us Massachusetts people call it the Cape I think. We go "down the Cape" when we go there haha.

message 432: by Rafaela (new)

Rafaela | 136 comments Noted :)

message 433: by Kimberly (last edited Apr 21, 2009 10:34PM) (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments My grandpa was a true cowboy, he grew up in Wyoming (Um.. for those of you who live outside of the U.S., wyoming is like THE state for cowboys) Anyway he made sure that his kids and grandkids knew how to handle a gun, he would take us target shooting. He wanted to make sure that none of us were stupid enough to shoot someone, or ourselves. So guns don't bother me, I don't have any problems with people owning them. (I actually own two, that I inherited from my Gramps) I do think though that there need to be strict rules for buying them.

Rafaela- I live in a town similar to the one that you described from movies, I live near a busy street and shopping area, but it isnt dangerous. The crime rate is really low. (Unless you count traffic tickets, but thats because the cops get bored and pull you over for dumb things....) I walk to the store often and the bookstore I work at is just up the street, I ride my bike to work sometimes.

message 434: by S (new)

S Happy Earth Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! Are any of you doing anything fun to observe today? My boyfriend and I are going for a reeeeeeally long walk :P

message 435: by Heather (new)

Heather (andshewontsleep) I'm stuck inside at work all day, unfortunately. I'm hoping to get out for a walk on my lunch break but it's supposed to rain later this afternoon (it's beautiful out right now).

message 436: by Rafaela (new)

Rafaela | 136 comments Kimberly, you are sooooo lucky having an authentic cowboy grandpa and living in a city like that! I'm jealous here :))

Nice you remembered that Sarah! You believe I am studying Agricultural Engineering in college and nobody mentioned it? Dude, Earth Day!!

message 437: by Lynnie (new)

Lynnie Ok I'm kinda worried... one of my roommates next year just called me and said "what are you doing now?" and I'm like "Getting ready to go to bed" b/c I have to get up super early tomorrow for my practicum....

and she brings her drunk and annoying bf to my room to sing to me and idk... make me feel awkward? I mean, I don't have a problem w/ drinking, but I don't really find his drunkness funny. Dammitt... I'm in for it ever single weekend, aren't I? Shit. shit shit shit.

message 438: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker Lynn, Try to get a door that locks. I am so glad that I have to put up with a roommate for only 13 more days! I AM making a countdown for the last 10...

message 439: by Frances (new)

Frances Davidson (freakfornature) | 38 comments Jamie and kate, I can relate to a point, but I have a different sort of craving to get away... For one, most of my friends think i'm a little strange because i have no urge to travel outside of the US besides Canada (I love Canada!) but I just have that urge to get away from school, society, and just people in general (I know, pretty antisocial, huh?) Like just taking off for the woods! hehe, i know it seems like a weird little fantasy, but whenever i get stressed by school and relationships, i just expound on the whimsical fantasy. :)

message 440: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Frances, Save by Grace. I'm the same way. Right now I'd love nothing more than to go camping. Just me and my family. Where if I wanted I could go and lay in the hammock next to the river and read. Or sit around the campfire at night roasting marshmallow and chatting with my family. Or go on a hike. *sigh* I'm really ready for summer to start.

message 441: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey Baguinat (kelseybaguinat) Oh, the simple life. I am totally with you on that, Kimberly. I absolutely love camping with the fam. I've been in California for 4 years for school, and my entire family is still in Minnesota/Wisconsin (where I'm from). I only get to see them (at the most) 4 weeks a year. I always want to just pack my bags, go home, and sit around a bonfire and chat with everybody. I miss it so much!

haha, we kinda cheat when we go camping. We all have motor homes. :)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
I am not much for camping but I am running away. In a week or so for a few days over to California. I am excited because it is somewhere I have never been this time. A friend lives in Pismo Beach and so maybe I will just waste away on the beach!

message 444: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen I've always wanted to go on a superlong road trip across the country to the western states. I still want to do it, I also am thinking of moving there for a while... for some reason I've always felt a pull to go there.

message 445: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen I would love to do that this summer... if I have the time and the money. That's always the issue isn't it...

message 446: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen So here is something completely off topic... did anyone else hear Bea Arthur died today???

message 447: by Matthieu (new)

message 448: by Mandee (new)

Mandee (amandalinajanel) | 378 comments I know... how sad. I remember watching The Golden Girls with my mom and aunt when I was young. My brother even watched sometimes.

Which ones do you want to visit? I've felt the same way about NYC and DC (original, I know) :). But I always wanted to live in NYC, at least for a short period of time, just to have that experience. The living experience seems so different than what I've ever been exposed to (not that I don't like it here).

message 450: by Janet (new)

Janet Oh my gosh! I had no idea that Bea Arthur died!! That makes me so sad. I still watch Golden Girls to this day!!! I love it so much! How sad!!
