Lynnie oh I'll definitely need help with the pushing and prodding haha. Especially w/ exercise. I'd like to do it in the morning b/c in the afternoon it's so much easier to say I don't have time or I'lm too tired.. but it's hard to wake up early.

message 352: by Anna (new)

Anna Shumaker (annashu) When I started exercising in the morning it was just for like 10 minutes but once I got that into my routine it seemed easier...

Okay, a completely random idea just floated into my brain. I noticed that a lot of our book choices are "girlie books" and those that aren't are usually leaning that way. So, what does everyone think about having (for May group read) only male members can nominate the books, then we all can vote for which one we would like to read.

Just a suggestion.

message 354: by Lynnie (new)

Lynnie ooooh good suggestion, Tami. I like it!

message 355: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen I'm up for a manly read.

anybody else been watching the NCAA tourney?? today i played hookie from work and my boyfriend and I watched Round 1 in Philly..we got to see BYU vs. Texas A&M and the blowout that was UCONN vs. UTC. it was a good time..and it was nice not going to work!! :)

Rafaela | 136 comments Roisu,
I think it is too hard, but in practice, this has been the best thing to do!
:/

message 358: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen Agreed. It's probably the ultimate way to show your love, and to prove it.

message 359: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey Baguinat (kelseybaguinat) I don't really agree with it. Maybe if the person wants to be away from you or doesn't want to be with you, then it would be fine to set them free. But the whole "I'm going to pretend I don't love them so they leave me" thing that we see in movies all too often is just not right.

message 360: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen What if it would ultimately be better for them in the long run? Or if they didn't feel the same way? Letting go doesn't mean you have to physically separate yourself from them, though it might come to that.

message 361: by Rafaela (new)

Rafaela | 136 comments To me, 'set them free' is in relation to not want to force anything that does not exist as any kind of feelings, intimacy, friendship, trust.

message 362: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen ...and now for something completely different, I am supposed to be writing a paper right now. Clearly I am not making much progress.

I am supposed to be preparing a seminar right now!

did anyone else see this??

honestly..this made me so mad. i would have honestly told the cop where to stick that ticket and i would have walked away...i was just thinking about when i found out that my mom was dying..my sister and i had gone out to run some errands..and my stepdad called and said that we needed to go home because she wasn't doing well..we drove home faster than you wouldn't belieeve..and if any cop would have tried to pull us over..they would have been following us to our house and arrested me there..ugh..i mean..this guy had zero compassion..once he assessed the situation..he should have let the guy go.

message 365: by Matthieu (last edited Mar 26, 2009 09:17PM) (new)

Matthieu | 130 comments I'm sorry to hear about your loss, Jamie.

And yes, this article pissed me off.

message 366: by S (new)

S Jeez. Stories like this make me incredibly angry. At least Moat's wife was able to be with her mother during her final moments. Did you guys read the comments after the news story on that link? One guy didn't see what the controversy was about detaining somebody in a situation like that. How dense can a person be?! Which takes priority: seeing your dying family member or getting a ticket for a traffic violation. Oh, brother.

message 367: by Anna (new)

Anna Shumaker (annashu) no sisters for me just 3 brothers...never really wanted a sister either though.

message 368: by Janet (new)

Janet I have one full blooded sister, one half sister, one step sister, and one step sister-in-law. How's that for confusing? Haha j/k. Anyway I get along really well with my full blooded sister. She is 4 years older than me and I think that age gap helps! Sometimes though, she still treats me like I am like 5 years old but we've always been there for each other and always will. She's my only full blooded sibling, so we're kind of the only thing "normal" we have. My half sister is 8 years younger than me. We get along well too but we're not like super close. I like to be there for her though. My step sister and I don't get along at all but she is like 32, so I don't have to see her very often. My step sister-in-law and I get along but she has her own family and everything, so it's not like we're close. Did any of that make sense? The two I am closest with is my older sister and my younger sister. Why do you ask?

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 4407 comments Mod
i have one full blooded sister and 2 half sisters. One is older than me and the other 2 are younger than me. I'm not really close with the older half sister..we haven't ever really lived together..and we are so incredibly different...and my real sister is 2 years younger than me and we are closer than i am with the rest..and we used to be really close but not really anymore..we have both changed alot..and my younger sister is 13 and i barely see her..but we get along very well because she likes to read!

message 370: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker Roisu, I wish I could help you, but I don't have any sisters. But through my years of observation, I think the bond between sisters can be really special. I can see how being best friends with your younger sister can be a blessing and a curse. But maybe you should try to look at how the good things outweigh the bad. What's the weird patch you're going through? Perhaps spelling that out can help the rest of us help you come up with a solution.

message 371: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker I understand now....A year ago, I set up two of my really good friends and that felt good for a while. I felt like I'd done something nice for these two people because they hit it off so well. But, obviously, they started doing stuff without me and it was really awkward when I did hang out with them. He went away for grad school and she's still around, but I'm so sick of hearing about him! I basically stopped being friends with them both because of it, but I do not suggest that you do that with your sister.

Sorry I can't be of more help with this...

message 372: by Rafaela (new)

Rafaela | 136 comments Roisu,
I had a situation similar to yours. I liked a boy who was becoming my sister's best friend. They were always together. This was not easy.
But to our luck, this is decided naturally. I didn't show my feelings and their friendship was not strengthened with time.
I read somewhere a sentence that said: "boys come and go, friendship, no"
I believe that your family is your family and they are who will be there for you whenever you need...

I hope you get well.

message 373: by Mandee (last edited Mar 31, 2009 01:47PM) (new)

Mandee (amandalinajanel) | 378 comments Janet, I can totally relate. I have one full blooded brother, three half-brothers (one of which is not really my dad's child, so I guess that makes him my adopted half-brother?), two step-brothers, one half-sister, and another possible half-sister (it isn't known, or acknowledged, that she is my dad's child, but she probably is). Most of my half siblings I've never even met.

I'm absolutely closest to my full brother because we are my mom's only two and we were all we had growing up, but I met my step-brothers (which I don't call them that - I just call them my brothers, but for purposes of clarification...) when they were like 2 and 4 so even though we didn't live together my brother and I feel like they are definitely our family. We've always been like that, though, we consider our close friends family, too.

The rest, like I said, I don't know them. Some of them don't even speak English so even if I did meet them I don't really know how that would go...I guess I don't really think about it because all of that is tied to my dad, and I prefer to separate myself from that unhealthiness.

Here's an even more effed up part of all that craziness: My dad named the son he had after my brother the same name as my brother, but just changed the spelling from an 'ie' to a 'y'. Freddie and Freddy. WOW. What a pile, huh? It's funny and sick.

Sorry to hear about all the sticky relationship situations. Like Rafaela said, just try really hard to remember who is really important and hopefully things will get better with time.

message 374: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments So a bit of randomness for you. Does anyone here remember the movie "Napoleon Dynamite"? Or was it just a Utah thing?

message 375: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen Oh no it was huge in Mass., my friends used to quote it all the time. So yes I remember it haha. I was not a big fan though, I didn't really think it was as funny as everyone else thought.

message 376: by Anna (new)

Anna Shumaker (annashu) it was huge in Oregon as well...

message 377: by Lynnie (new)

Lynnie It was huge EVERYWHERE. haha. The first time I saw it I thought it was so stupid, but now I think it's hilarious. I think you just have to get past the fact that it's kinda pointless.

message 378: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments haha, I thought so. It is a stupid movie, but so hilarious! It was so big my Sophmore year of high school that I can't think of the movie without thinking of sophmore year and vice versa. And I still laugh when I hear "Tina, you fat lard, come get some DINNER!... " lol

message 379: by Janet (new)

Janet I freaking LOVED Napolean Dynamite!!! WOOO HOO!!! It was so good and I loved it!! Haha! And Mandee that name thing is really effed up! Holy crap!! Haha what the heck!? Wow!!

message 380: by Mandee (new)

Mandee (amandalinajanel) | 378 comments MmmHmm, loved me some Napoleon Dynamite too. The dance scene is one of the greatest scenes EVER.
Yeah, Janet...I know. UNBELIEVABLE. Really. It still makes me shake my head. We left my dad when my brother and I were still really young and my mom changed my brother's name. It was actually kinda cute...she let him help her pick out a name.

What is everyone doing for Easter? Any fun plans?

message 382: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen I came home today! :) I'm also skipping classes on Monday so I don't have to drive back tomorrow.

message 383: by Liz (new)

Liz I'm at my boyfriend's house, which is nice, except he and his mother aren't getting along because they are both super stressed. It'll be fine, he's just going to try and help around the house a lot.

message 384: by Lynnie (new)

Lynnie I have been super busy this Easter break and somewhat productive! This morning my mom and I went to the stable where we'll be helping out this summer. We fed horses, turned some out, brought others in to groom, and I even got to ride a little (but that was a bit of a downer b/c I had trouble showing the horse that I'm the boss and my mom is a good rider so she was trying to teach me and getting frustrated which made me frustrated.. blah. but it was good. I'm hoping to have it all down pat by the end of the summer. And everyone said I had a "good seat.") Then later we visited this woman who is basically my adopted granny (she's dying so it might be the last time I see her). And I got to watch part of the Ten Commandments tonight (so long and cheesy, but tradition!)

I have to get up super early for Mass tomorrow b/c my dad is cantoring. Our break started Thursday and every single day I've gotten up and out before 8. crazy.

message 385: by [deleted user] (new)

my parents went to Syosset Long island for Easter and i am home alone, i actually couldnt make it because i have a 2 tests next week. i am enjoying playing the Ps3 on my 52 HD TV and some chatting with friends on facebook

message 386: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm studying for my exams over Easter. They start on Friday :-(

message 387: by Anna (new)

Anna Shumaker (annashu) My family usually goes to a friends house for a potluck type lunch. I made some brie with apricot and almonds and deviled eggs but it is also a perfect stormy day to sit and watch movies or read so I think I might bow out of socializing. My mom is going to give me a hard time but she's just jealous.

message 388: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm taking a break from studying to listen to the Finding Neverland Soundtrack by Jan A.P. Kaczmarek. It is one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard, I'm enchanted!

message 389: by Nuri (new)

Nuri (nools) | 145 comments IT'S EASTER, YAYAYAY!
I hope everyone is surrounded by good chocolate and good people, and (if it's suits you) good Jesus time on this beautiful Easter Sunday!

I had a good morning at church and came home to a Korean picnic-style lunch with the family. My favorite was the part where there was traffic on the drive after church. Normally, this would be said with sarcasm, but today was beautiful, the windows were down, and we were a car-full of singing, happy people.

I'm sorry, Roisu. : (
I'll be studying with you, sort of. In a minute, I keep telling myself. It's tough studying at home.

message 390: by [deleted user] (new)

somehow music helps me study

message 391: by Anna (new)

Anna Shumaker (annashu) I just finished doing my taxes...finally. When I did it on line it said I owed 87 for state and I wasn't about to pay to file so I decided to do them myself. Well after 2 hours I got answers ranging between +1890 and -900. After doing them carefully step by step I was able to get -61 twice so I'm sticking with that. The sad part is that when I was in Portland my friend (who works at HR block or something) offered to do them but I didn't feel like messing with it then.

message 392: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments We didn't do much for Easter this year. Just breakfast at my aunts house.Up until this year every year for Easter my whole family (Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Grandparents, and people that aren't even really related) would all go to Lake Mead together. We'd rent a houseboat, or two depending on how many people came, and find our own little cove to stay in for a week. We'd go boating and swimming, and eat, constantly. lol. And then on Easter morning we'd have a Easter Egg hunt on the beach. I loved our Lake Mead trips, it would be just my family in the cove, we rarely saw anyone else. I really missed the trip this year. But we might be able to go next year. :)

message 393: by Mandee (new)

Mandee (amandalinajanel) | 378 comments That sounds awesome! I would love to do something like that. We had the normal family get together for a BBQ this year. It was actually pretty fun.

just had a professor change our one to a different day, so now both of mine are on the same day from 7:30 in the morning to 12:00 Ugh, at least it will be finished I guess. The other two classes have projects due by the final day, so no real exam! Yay!

message 399: by Mandee (new)

Tahleen I have finals in the first week of May, except I don't actually have any finals. I have one take-home exam, a 20-page paper (mostly personal essay), a project, and I have to finish up my website (it's at http://sites.google.com/site/teenvamp... you should go there!). :) I also have another paper due the Thursday before exam week. And then GRADUATION!!
