Janet Haha I like it! Sometimes it can suck but other times it can be so great!

wow, I just got back from class and there is probably 35 people in it. I haven't taken a class so full in a long time. It is a Business major requirement not just accounting, so that was odd.

message 253: by Lynnie (new)

Lynnie I got a job today! I pick up a 10 year old girl and take her home and hang out 4 days a week from 5-9 for 2 weeks. It's only $5/hr but it's better than nothing.

This girl is taller than me! but I'm only 5'2".. soo.. that's not saying much haha

message 254: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker Lynn, That sounds great! You can get her to do her homework and probably steal some reading/homework time yourself.

I'm 5'6". I like my height. I wouldn't want to be any taller than I am now.

yay for getting a job!! how exciting!

I also might have a potential job lead..my stepdad works at the hospital and knows a doctor who needs a receptionist at his practice..so i called and it sounds like i might get an interview! :)

message 256: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
Receptionist is also a good job for reading fans. :) As long as the boss is cool with it, and it doesn't upset work balances. Good Luck Jamie.

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 4407 comments Mod
tami..that is EXACTLY what i was hoping for...haha :)

message 258: by Lynnie (new)

Lynnie Tami's right... I've worked a lot of receptionist jobs and I love them! I've never had a bad boss, honestly (ok.. maybe one) but yeah when you have an easy-going boss as most of mine have been, you get a lot of down time to read! :]

And the mom for my job said that I could work on homework and use the computer or whatever I needed to do. And I don't have to make dinner or anything.. basically just hang out.

Yet another random thought. I am supposed to be working on my english assignment due by midnight. It is a quarter to 11 and I am on goodreads. Does anyone else see this as a problem?

message 260: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker Yikes Tami. I hope you at least got part of it done.

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 4407 comments Mod
ah Tami! I hope you got it done. Last semester i did that all the time..Goodreads..then do whatever hw i had. haha.

message 262: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker Now I'm worried about how I'm going to handle it once school starts.

ugh. i'm sick.
i thought i might die today. lol.
hopefully it's just some 24 hour stomach thing.
i am such a miserable sick person..lucky for you all..you don't have to be around me right now..i can still be pleasant to you all and be sick at the same time! :)

anyone else catch this nasty bug going around?

message 264: by Lynnie (last edited Jan 10, 2009 08:22PM) (new)

Lynnie My dad has it. I told him I wish I had it b/c I actually kinda like being sick.... When I'm at school I get so busy and stressed out.. but when I'm truly sick, I get to take one day where I can stay in bed all day and not do anything and I don't have to feel guilty about it. It helps that most people at my school are pretty laid back and understanding about that sort of thing.

message 265: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker Jamie, I, thankfully, do not have the bug. My mom got something right after Christmas and she was awful to take care of.

Lynn, I wish I could get sick at school without worrying about things. They say they don't want you to go to class if you're sick, but then you are slammed for missing (if the professor takes attendance and it's a smaller class, that is).

message 266: by Janet (new)

Janet Yeah I like being sick, if I don't have to miss something. Like being sick on a Saturday haha. But even then I still get stressed about all the things I need to be doing but can't. It's a toss up!

message 267: by Bree (new)

Bree (breezybaby) | 144 comments I was sick with that around Christmas time!
I hate being sick during the holidays!

i hate that too!

message 269: by Lynnie (new)

Lynnie I take it all back! I woke up with the bug this morning! :[ I like being cold-sick but NOT nausea-sick which is what I am. ugghh.. I wish my nose were clogged b/c every little smell of food is making me sicker. I reaaaaally don't want to be sick right now since I start school and my new job tomorrow.

Jamie are you feeling better?

message 272: by Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner), The Founding Bookworm (new)

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 4407 comments Mod
yeah..i am feeling SO much better! Thanks for asking!

message 273: by Caiti Casey (new)

Caiti Casey Spiess (mrssteven) Good to hear!!!

message 274: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker Personally, if I get sick, I'd rather it be a stomach bug because I just throw up and then feel better. I hate blowing my nose, so I hate colds.

I always like to use Thanksgiving and spring break to catch up on the semester, maybe get ahead. I was sick over both of those last school year. I wasn't sick this Thanksgiving, so maybe the curse is broken.

whew so i have been busy lately. i feel like i haven't been on here much..the other night my boyfriend had a basketball game..thursday night..and during the game he and some kid collided into each other and my boyfriend broke his front tooth and has a huge gash in his lip! it was soo nasty! but he played the whole second half..typical boy..but then i drove with him home and he ended up getting like "emergency" dental work and stuff..root canal..etc. so..yeah..that's where i have been. and every since then..i keep having dreams of my teeth falling out..i mean..i have those dreams alot..bc its a huge fear of mine lol..these dreams have to mean something lol.

anywho..what is everyone up to this weekend??

message 276: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker Homework, visiting my grandparents and buying a pair of Ugg(ly) boots. I'm finally caving because I think they'll be warm, even though I find them atrocious looking. (Sorry to anyone who likes them; I'm just voicing my opinion) What about you?

message 277: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
I am at work. Taking a break from the grind. :)

message 278: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey Baguinat (kelseybaguinat) I got to come home to Minnesota to see my family and friends for 12 days, and it's almost over! I have to go back to California (work and school...ugh) on Monday. How is everyone else doing?

message 279: by Lynnie (new)

Lynnie Teeth falling out is one of my recurring dreams. I heard it means you have a problem with your self image or body image (definitely fits me). But I'm also always worried about tripping up the steps (which I do all the time) and breaking my teeth.

I'm actually going on a class trip this semester to a convent where one of the nuns specializes in dream interpretation. I think it will be a lot of fun plus I love nuns! :] So I'm going to ask her about that one (and my other two recurring dreams: running (but not from anything) and sneaking into people's houses to walk around and then almost being caught everytime. Oh and being in public w/o pants on. I'm always at school, pantless and tugging at my shirt to make it into a dress haha. I really don't think God is speaking to me through these dreams but hey! You never know!

Today I helped keep time at an academic team competition (the honors club here sponsors it) and I think I'm going to go home-home and see my great aunt who's coming in from Wisconsin.

message 280: by Janet (new)

Janet I'm not doing anything. I drove down last night to see my boyfriend but then came back up to my place tonight and am just sitting around. My boyfriend wanted to have guys night with his buddies, which I want him to do because I don't want to be that girlfriend. Haha. It's supposed to be really nice tomorrow so I am going to take my dog on a walk! It will be nice to get outside!!
We saw Defiance last night, that I wrote about on the movie page. It was good! Not a very exciting weekend but oh well! I still need to write thank you cards for Christmas, so I guess I'll do that and homework tomorrow!

message 281: by Caiti Casey (new)

Caiti Casey Spiess (mrssteven) Wow the weekend is already half over. I worked non-stop today between my two jobs. (BTW Jamie! When you open your fashion boutique, please promise me you will carry bigger sizes than just 6. Many women can't fit into that and you'll sell more. :D) Then my boy went took me to dinner. Tomorrow I have to go to work for a little while and then drop a book off somewhere for a friend for one of her classes. And Homework! YAY! *rolls eyes*

message 282: by Justine (new)

Justine (paperbackheart) Lynn, I heard dreams about teeth falling out are related to stress? So I've been telling people that for years.
Like, I got in trouble at work for something stupid and not completely my fault a few weeks ago and then had a dream that my teeth were falling out at work and my boss wouldn't let me leave until I found his dog a girlfriend/puppy mama. I took that to mean that I am stressed out at work from doing things that aren't even part of my job.

This weekend I finally did a Secret Santa exchange with some girlfriends and went antiquing. It was really fun, but thrift stores, etc give me such a bad stomach ache and I have no idea why.

it snowed today!! alot..well for here anyways. i was so excited(and bored because i have no job) that i went out and shoveled my driveway! my stepdad sure was happy. lol

and speaking of the job thing..i got rejected again! boooo. stupid jobs.

message 284: by Lynnie (new)

Lynnie ahh Jamie, good luck in the job search! I know it's GOT to suck majorly in this economy. Are you using career builder? I used that one summer and found some stuff (didn't get any of the jobs unfortunately. ha.)

I'm applying to a summer job right now for my hometown community college's upward bound summer program. It would be a good experience and at least decent pay but I'm worried I won't get it. I just found out that my mom is applying too (how funny would it be if we both worked together this summer? haha. We could save gas money by driving together!) and she is a tenured high school teacher with tons of good job experiences. So who is going to hire me when they can hire someone like my mom? But I've got some good people to write me letters and I'm going to make my cover letter awesome. I just wish it was longer than 6 weeks... but if I get it, maybe I can also get a job at Bath and Bodyworks or something. I have a friend that works there.

You know what I always thought would be fun? Working at a summer camp! This girl and I joked that we should be arts and crafts counselors at this girl scout camp we both went to.. and I still really want to do it, but one of my best friends is getting married this summer and I don't want anything to interfere with that. Should I go ahead and apply? Would they let me off for the rehearsal and day of the wedding?

message 285: by Janet (new)

Janet Lynn that is so funny about you and your mom going for the same job! Also, I have ALWAYS wanted to go back and work at the summer camp I went to as a kid but it's a 8-10 week commitment. I don't think I could be away from people for that long haha but I kind of wish I had now. Haha. I work at a daycare now during the summer which is fun too but it's not in the mountains or anything like a real camp. Haha.

Ok so this is totally random but you guys were talking about dreams and I had the worst dream last night. I had a dream that a whole bunch of people and I were running and hiding from the Nazi's. We finally got to this one house to hide in but then someone found out and came and killed some of the people and I saw it happening. This one girl and I got away and found a really old building with a random guy in it that was going to let us stay and it was just old and grey and drafty, and then I woke up.
I think it has something to do with reading The Book Thief and seeing Defiance this weekend but it really scared me because I saw people being killed! Ok I just had to share because it was so weird!!

message 286: by Lynnie (new)

Lynnie ahh Janet your Nazi dream made me remember my CRAZIEST (perhaps) dream ever. I have a friend who was in the Marines in Iraq during the invasion period so he has PTSD and I've also been through a mild form of PTSD b/c of a car wreck. We were having a deep heart to heart about it one day and he was talking about PTSD dreams and being shot in the dreams, etc. I told him I've never had a PTSD dream exactly (that I remember) but I have had a dream where I got shot....

I was on an island.. and it was controlled by an evil army... of... corn on the cob (which is odd b/c I LOVE corn on the cob!!!). They were seriously ears of corn with faces and arms and legs and they had guns... Some stuff happened but Idk what... And at one point I got shot but instead of hurting, it tickled.

That broke up the seriousness of the moment!

Good Luck Jamie. Oh and when you get the job, try to bring home a paycheck instead of just clothes. :) That was a hard thing for a lot of us when I worked at Dillards.

message 297: by Lynnie (new)

Lynnie Not gonna lie... life has been getting me down lately... but these past few days have been good! I've been reconnecting with a friend and the future is feeling positive instead of scary like it normally does. Just thought I would share. I don't usually tell people in my life that things aren't going so great.. so when things are going well it's kinda lost on them I think.

Oh and at work, I got my own office. My freakin own office!!! This is an absolute first for me. It's insane.
